Shoe and Laundry Storage Bench
At our carport door, we have our laundry room and storage for things that we use when going outdoors like shoes, coats and backpacks. It was not very well organized. The project is to take down the existing upper cabinets and build a storage system for the outdoor things and the laundry. The storage system consists of a horizontal piece with shoe storage inside and a bench on top, and a vertical piece with adjustable shelves for laundry storage. The cabinets are made from prefinished birch plywood and the bench is oak.

The Russian doll animation and the shoes walking away are the little things that make me watch every single one of your videos as soon as they pop up in my feed. Each video is WAY more than just 15 minutes of somebody cutting and gluing wood. Genius.
Man Frank, you are a Renaissance man for sure. It's a project like that that turns a house into a home, and makes a feel warmer...more welcoming. Props.
This looked like a timely project on it's own. However with the stop-motion and animations, this shows you are not a lazy man! Fantastic craftsmanship!
When I was a kid, I lived for shows like this old house, and the instructional VHS that came with our Kirby G4. This guy is talented in so many more ways than just woodworking. His videography skills are on point, editing/stop motion is amazing. Even had a sense of humor! Fascinating channel - can't wait to watch more!
Love the humour in the stop motion. My favourite parts of your vids.

+frank howarth like the work shop i have one in my basement have all the toys fix it up really pro like, making queen ann chairs, it a hobby of love.
I appreciate your video style. (Stop motion). Adds a level of professionalism. Very nice.
I LOVE your videos!!!!! Please post more frequently. I loved watching the wood rights shop growing up and the new Yankee work shop. This old house and bob villa too! NONE of those are as entertaining as your videos. Thanks, Ellic
Thanks Frank. Of all the woodworking videos on KZread yours motivate me the most to get out in the shop and make something. I think it is the way you show how you attacked the build instead of trying to teach me how to build it your way. It is funny to me that kids shoe storage is the exact problem our house is having to deal with this week. Must be a common thing in households everywhere.
I like that you are not long on words but explain everything short and simple.
The little natural lighting animation at the end is lovely. The little animation bits are a surprising joy in your work, do keep doing that. a very Scandinavian build. Using space well is a wonderful life skill.
Your lazy, soft, raspy voice is just so soothing for some reason.
Frank, You are wonderful father (on camera, my only perspective! lol), with tremendous patience. I enjoy your interactions with your children. I tried hard to be the same with my daughters, and to date at least, they give my high marks! Thank you for sharing your experiences!
You are the Bob Ross of Woodworking!
It doesn't happen often, but every once in a while youtube suggests a video that I actually want to watch and channels like Frank's get another sub and multiple likes! Great content Frank. Thankyou!
Frank again you did something amazing I love the humor you put into your videos.
the voiceover and video editing + your finishing work are SUPER
WOW, as a video editor guy AND a woodworker, I would like to congratulate you on an AWESOMELY produced video! NICE job on the woodworking too. GREAT JOB on both & thank you for doing this.
that old dewalt machine is fantastic. you raise the youtuber video editing to a new level.
I like the time laps with the bird shadows at the end. Great job sir on the project and the videography.
Watching this again after so many years, its interesting to see Franks kids small again, but look at all that empty space in the workshop.
Dude, honestly if I would have a shop back home I would pay you airplane ticket took care about your accommodation and food so just that you could make my home furniture unique and costum built... my respect for what you are doing ;)
one of the best woodworking shops I have seen yet, better than nice. You made that look like art, project start to finish awesome
I can't bloody stop watching your videos!!!
Super production on the video....Your presentations are so enjoyable to watch.
YOU ARE AN AMAZING GUY. Thanks for your vídeos. Make my days better.
Great work. I also like the way the video is presented, brief but concise.
The kids have grown so much in your recent videos!
I like your work, the passion that you work with and the result, but most of all I like your self build working area!
You have entirely too much fun doing these videos. . . God Bless you!
Huge difference! You made a LOT of work look fun and simple. Thanks for sharing.
Upper cabinets give the impression of more space, while floor storing units take out from the rooms floor area. They usually are used to give the room a less cluttered look. But this is all about preferences. You have done a great job. I love the bench.

I feel upper cabinets close the space in and make it feel smaller. I am also not hitting my back on the open doors, when I get up from putting my shoes on
I'm always beside myself at your editing (and of course your woodworking). The cat-like butt-wiggle before the vertical top jumped up was most excellent. Great stuff Frank.
2 minutes in I'm already laughing my ass off. Too funny. That video was completely enjoyable to watch. The production is top notch, and your attention to detail I can certainly appreciate. I'm becoming more Swiss-German as my days pass.
Over 15mins and I wasn't board for a second. Very nice work and fantastic editing. I like the time laps at 5:02 11:37 12:18 This is one of the best woodworking videos on KZread.

A woodworking project, and you weren't board... I see what you did, there.
Yes! I have to go to work, but I am SO watching this when I get home.
After seeing how you have to make these videos I am more impressed with your work Frank. Very nice project.
Watching this after the latest milling video in August 2019. It’s neat see how much Calvin has grown!
Frank, your videos are some of the best value for the time invested on the internet. You are a fine teacher, a wonderful woodwoorker and a good grandpa, as well. Thank you for doing these shows, I learn so much from you each time.
always fun to watch your movies. Stop motion and sudden speedup on the stapler :D Great project, keep up the good work Frank!
As usual your videos are a pleasure to see. I love yours Director Cut. I learned how important it is trough your videos because the way you make appear intersting and amusing every single wood cut and operation you do in your projects. thank you again to teach and share your knowledge with all of us. My sunday is a better day now, and my pencil is flying all over paper drawing projects and ideas. Have a great day with all your family. Chris
First I wanted to say how much I like the cabinets! The other was to say how much I enjoyed the work you did putting soooooo many little pieces of humor in and the camera angles/movement. Too any to list here! Watched them all again a few times. Thanks for sharing.
Your kids are adorable. They had so much curiosity.
I'm surprised there was anything else in your house for you to do a project on! Excellent job and incredibly enjoyable video to watch, as always. It's always calming to watch you build things.
Frank your stop motion is just half of what i like about your videos but its a huge half. lol Keep up the excellent work sir.
Another fantastic production Frank, now comes the antagonising wait until your next one, all the best.
Superb project Frank. A pleasure to watch your videos
I could watch your videos all day!
Great video as normal! I got a good laugh when your son put the cyclone lid up to the camera. That "thingy" that leaked water when loosened is the stem and packing nut for a valve.
I love your design for the top of the vertical and horizontal pieces...very classy. And love seeing the kids involved! Thanks for sharing!
Very cool project Frank! The beginning of this vid was just awesome with all the sound effects. I was satisfied just watching that lol. Good stuff. Be safe.
Very creative Frank, Thanks for the quality viewing.
your stop-motion is always so entertaining!
Absolutely Love your video !! Wonderful wood work let alone that wood shop is to die for !!! Your video graphics are super fun to watch. Too bad shoes really don't walk themselves to where they go LOL. Love your videos they are the greatest for detail and super easy for learning. Thanks for sharing them.
Your house has a lot of mysterious fixtures and wiring. Must keep things interesting :)
I am always excited to see another video from you pop up in my subscription feed. They are always enjoyable. Thank you for making them and sharing with me!
I am so lucky to have found your channel and immediately subscribed. To me you are an inspiration to get to my shop and keep going with my projects. Thank you so much for your videos; you presentations are truly honest, interesting and humble which makes them so welcoming. Thanks for the good vibrations :)
You make projects seem so simple and fun, Frank
Love the shoes giving the bin a kick to get them going. Nice touch.
Another great video Frank. Love the clean and simple look.
It's been said already but I will add my comments... Great video work. When you get tired of woodwork you can take up video production. I have watched all you series and think they are great. I need to update my laundry and will be incorporating some of your ideas. Again Great Work
I don't know if you know how funny you are, but I am really enjoying your videos. Very well done.
I love the little stop motion bits inside the videos keep it up
you're a hoot Frank...hands down most entertaining shop site ...every one has me laughing and learning .....keep it up......
Great looking cabinets for the laundry room, can't wait for the coat rack. Thanks Frank, and thank the kids.
Sweet video, Frank. It's like DIY Ikea-style (but better). Fantastic idea cutting the holes for the power outlets. Might have to get out the hole-saw now and modify some of our own furniture. Really nice workshop by the way. keep it up!
Looks good! Only thing I would of done different was continued the bench up the vertical side of the shelf so the bench on the top of the shelf doesn't drop off like it does. All in all I like it, Frank Howarth for President!
Only Frank can make cleaning out the laundry room look cool!
You're a genius, excellent video frank!
Frank, your workshop is incredible! This step by step video shows it was a considerably big project, but the finished look at 13:62 shows that it was a huge success. Congratulations and keep sharing!
That mega-long clamp is redonkulous! Since i can't nearly fit that in my work shed, I love the wedge clamp tip. Thanks!
haha! Build around an electrical outlet and water line! My philosophy is that electricity isn't a hobby. I totally understand, but man--our projects will come out better if we fix the mechanical problems first, like you did with the smooth wall surface. You're putting the sexy stuff over what needs to be fixed which is to bring that duplex electrical receptacle out flush with your cabinet. Just my opinion. Beautiful work as always and even though you're not too keen on that high shine for the bench, I think it looks amazing.
I really like your videos, with the stop motion and all... great job keep em coming. Good luck.
Very sleek looking. My two favorite parts were your forceful shoes, and the mad scientist gloves! :)
I discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago and by far it is now my favorite one. It is so instructional in so many areas. Many, many thanks from France.
WoW! Much Better ! its now a nice room! No more need to move!
This video really makes me want to play Tetris! Excellent work!
I have to say, I love the way you explain everything you do in your projects, you make us feel like we are right there with you, I tip my hat to ya. Kepp up the great work, and thanks for sharing!
Very organized and practical. Great place to sit and put your boots on. Video editing is killer as usual. Thanks, Vinny
You're an artist Frank.
Thank you for your time. It took a lot to make such quality video. Good luck.
dank I really love your work! and your films are fun, always a story not just a DYI video.
Another great video Frank! I hope to create such wonderful things for my wife and kids one day. You're a fantastic craftsman, cinematographer, husband and father!
i am learning so much from your videos i want to be a carpenter like you
Great work and look at all that space you gained in return...
Great video and great project Frank, thanks for posting. Always love your vids
If you don't like the shine of your finish, you can use fine steel wool. You'll get a flat finish. For a semi-gloss finish, use steel wool, then wax. I use carnauba wax, but bees wax works although. I tried flat or semi-gloss finishes, but there is 2 thing I don't like about it. You have to use gloss finish for the first coats, and the semi-gloss or flat finish only on the last coat. And secondly, they put some flattening agent in the finish, and I guess I tend to push the flattening agent away as I'm brushing, so I get an aneven "flatness". That's why I like the steel wool trick better. Thanks for the many videos you make. I just dicovered you channel and it's one of my favorite.
I agree that the upper cabinets had to go. Your bench and vertical cabinet is so much more functional, not to mention better looking.
Great video as always Frank, the stop motion is amazing All the best Robbie
Sounds silly I know, but it makes my day when you put out a new video! Thanks, nice job, and keep them coming!
My God you are amazing at what you dooo..... I love your craft work skills.... It's genius... and omg I love your workspace.... one day I will have a shop just like yours... God willing...
Beautiful frank howarth Like how you put the strip of oak edge banding on the bench to make it look thicker, nice touch.
Love your videos and ideas . Very entertaining and informative . Reminds me of sesame street had segments like the ones you have with the things moving by themselves . 😀
Amazing videography.....cool......its kinda stop animation effect that you showed in this video......at the beginning while clearing the stuffs one by one......!!!!! Amazing video !!!!! Thanks
Hi Frank, thanks for making the effort to share.
Incredibly well done! Thanks for sharing!
Now that's nice, good design work, fun project. I like the video work, gotta have fun. Well done all the way around.
I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed your video. Great job!
I agree 100% with what you said about dadoes. I have been building a lot of cabinets as I build up my shop and dadoes really help to self-align everything.
Another Masterpiece. Both Vid and Bench.
why would anyone down vote this video! Awesome and inspiring build.
