Shockwave Therapy for ED | Explained by Urologist Dr. Robert Chan

Shockwave Therapy for ED | Explained by Urologist Dr. Robert Chan
In this video, I go over the basics of shockwave therapy treatment for ED in men. Shockwave therapy, also known as acoustic wave therapy, Gainswave, or Truepulse, uses high energy sound waves to help stimulate new blood vessel growth in the penis. Shockwave therapy differs from other erectile dysfunction treatments like viagra because medications only treat symptoms of the ED. On the other hand, shockwave therapy focuses more on the underlying pathophysiology i.e. poor blood flow to the penis.

    QUESTION: Does the acoustic shockwave in proximity to fibrous scar tissue negatively influence or damage an inguinal hernia mesh repair? The hernia mesh repair creates an inflammation response from the body that promotes scar tissue to grow around the mesh which in turn is supposed to result in a much stronger repair. Shockwave therapy alleges to break down scar tissue. The device in question is The Phoenix by Launch Medical.

  • @darkshadow24667
    @darkshadow246673 жыл бұрын

    Hi Dr. Excellent video. Just a point on Peyronie's. I have had shockwave therapy for the condition and have definitely noticed a reduction in curvature - quite a lot actually - and my case is worse than just 1 plaque. Also noticed a reduction in plaque and that no new plaques seemed to form over areas that have had the treatment done. I've had 12 sessions done so far over the span of about a year and can definitely say that it does make a difference, especially with the pain associated with the disease. I am in the younger age of the usual spectrum however, so that may be a factor for it having an effect. It may not work for everyone and studies may not be conclusive yet, but just wanted you to know that I'm an example of a positive result thus far. Thanks again for the informative video :)

    that is awesome to hear. I am younger as well and know the exact moment I "broke" my junk, What was odd was that it was fine for a couple weeks, had a little soreness and then literally one day I was curved to the left and less than half as long.... it's been like that for a few years... I am still able to pull one half fully to attention, just the curved side is not gonna work. I was hoping these treatments would break the plaque down as I am just about ready to take a jackhammer to myself due to the psychological head games *no pun intended* that losing half of yourself plays on you. Well, at least I can hope for relief, a little or some is better than not trying...

    I'm not sure that shockwave and acoustical waves are the same thing. The studies have been done on shockwave machines which break the sound barrier, acoustical waves do not. A third class of men who won't benefit from shockwave therapy are those with sufficient cardiovascular circulatory health. Every two years I get my eyes examined and the doctor inspects the tiny arteries in my eyes. Since he can find no plaques in them and they are actually smaller than the arteries in my nether region, I doubt if I would be a good candidate for shockwave therapy. Instead I concentrated on diet and lifestyle changes and the use of a vacuum pump an the results have been quite gratifying. Finally, for those guys thinking about buying the Phoenix, There are other machines on amazon and Ebay that are less than half the cost and which are not only good for home treatment of ED, but for a variety of muscular, tendon and other pains and athletic type injuries.

    Hello Dr.Robert Chan, You mentioned that the treatment will be effective only for one or two years only. This treatment claims that it involves physiology and angiogenesis process which will unblock any blood vessel blockages and will trigger stem cells to grow new blood vessels to reverse ED problem. If patient keep the underlying condition say Diabetes, How come the ED can come back?. The patient should feel good for long time as the blood vessels are clear now and new blood vessels are in place to perform better than before. In spite of such an expensive treatment, If the problem comes back in one year, it cannot be claimed as permanent cure. Can you please tell why the problem can come back in one year under what conditions? Low intensity focussed Extracorporeal shockwave therapy using STORZ DUOLITH 1 equipment. Is it the one that you are talking about? I am waiting for your answer.

  • @DrRobertChan

    This is with the Storz D-Actor equipment. I am only hypothesizing about why the duration is only 1-2 years, but if say someone has an underlying diabetes condition, then the diabetes can still impact the new blood vessels that are created... that is very astute - it isn't a permanent cure.

    @@DrRobertChan Thanks for your reply Doctor. If the patient keep the diabetes well under control after the shockwave treatment, still will the ED problem come back after 1 year.? of course sexual aging can happen to everyone. But until then even if the patient keep his diabetes under control, is there more change of getting ED problem back in 1 year, or if underlying condition is under control can we expect the effectiveness of the treatment for many years?.

    i have the same question. i really dont understand why doctors are saying this will work for 1-2 years, whereas the problematic blood vessels healed or replaced by new ones. This should be treated as The permanant cure for ED.

    Shock wave breaks stones (called lithotripsy), how does it stimulate new vessels? He showed it causes vessels to dilate but said it causes new vessels. That diagram is misleading. Also if it brings stem cells to the penis (he doesn't say how and where they come from), or do he say that just to throw a shocker to be impressive ???
