On use to work as a painter. It bugs how people are easy to criticize. Rich does finish carpentry and isn't a professional painter, so instead of criticizing him . People should give advise in a respectful manner. I work as a mason now and I do plumbing once in a while,I might not be the best but at least I'm not afraid to do the job nor is he. Good job man

Used our TC Pro for many hours and jobs, but when it stopped I was shocked at how the rubber service ports were made and how easily the Allen key stripped out the rubber on the service ports. Loved this gun until it got stopped up. Normally easy to clean up, but wish they had more solid screw. Oh. 26 of the manual says you can use oil based paints but does warn that static sparking is possible and recommends using a metal pail and/or grounding.

The shock has to do with the flash point of the product being sprayed. Below 100 you should be using the hot solvent Graco Handheld. Some oil based products with a flash point between 115-100 can cause a shock and it has to do with the solvent.

Great video...all the suggestions regarding build up of static electric charge is right on point and correct. As an industrial chemist we always considered static charge build up whenever organic solvents are moving through any pipe or piece of equipment. Everything must be grounded before starting any fluid transfer or, in this case, before using handheld sprayer. Using that sprayer in and enclosed room, with oil base paint, is a prime set up for a house destroying explosion if it should spark just when the vapor level reach critical concentrations. Your very very lucky you didn't finish that job with a bang! Another example of this static charge buildup is when they pull tanker trucks into gas stations to refill the underground tanks...they always attach ground wires to the truck and hoses before they transfer the fluids into the tanks. Great videos and keep up the great work!

It's a water based gun only. I have the ultra pro version which gives you a grounding cord . Far too much hassle so why bother using oil at all. These guns work but the graco quickshot is far better and if at all possible go for the GX 19 versions on batteries where you actually have some control. I'm a tradesman 30 years have sprayed vehicles before, and found the top version of there handheld , heavy ,noisy, messy, very little control but it has plenty of power and should be called a handheld, priming and touch up gun. That's all it is really.

I have vinyl plank flooring and Im wondering the best way to mask off the base so that I don't get paint bleeding on to the flooring? Im thinking a line of frog tape down on the floor up against the base on the floor and then doing 12" masking with cheap tape on top of that? Should that be sufficient?

Usually with latex, just before you paint, you wet caulk with a very thin line of clear at the tape edge, and pull the tape while wet. With oil its tougher. You have to use sealing wax and wipe it off real good so it only seals the tape edge. Let it dry. Oil is very leaky. Wax is oil based and dried like oil. Wet caulk won't work with oil.

Try using a raw union to reduce odor from paints that have stout fumes. It won’t eliminate the VOCs but it will take odor away much quicker and the onion doesn’t leave an odor behind. And yes, a grounded wire will take away the shock. Reader above/below me has sent you the link. Good channel. Love the content.

There is an upgraded gun called the ultramax that can be used for hotter solvent based products. The ultramax is more expensive and comes with a grounding cord, it can be used to spray anything. He stated the paint he was using had been thinned by someone else, that someone else had probably thinned it with a hotter solvent causing the shocks.

How do you get such a nice tape line on the floors after removing the tape? We (diy) use high quality tape but never get perfect lines like you did. We're replacing our flooring from carpet to hardwoods soon and I'm going to have to repaint and replace some baseboards. I'm more nervous about that part than actually replacing our flooring.

Did you use a tape dispenser to put the paper down? Or did you run the tape then put the paper down?

just curious why you just dont get the homeowner to get their own painter. Does it add a good margin for you or is it about being a complete service

This exact thing has happened to me with graco true coat pro II ! I didn't know Wtf was that, couldn't finish the job ! I was using oil based primer "cover stain". When I was priming it and cleaning it there was no problem, as soon as I started spraying every 2-3 seconds - zap !

Hey Richard is the model you have compatible with flammable products? I have the same gun but mine was 699 it’s the graco ultra max. Bought it from acme tools online.

This one is not compatible with flammable. But It does say it is compatible with oil based. It's weird. Trying to figure it out.

Could be connected because you’re spraying a flammable oil based product. Mines “hot solvent compatible” which to me says cab spray oil based products because they require (hot solvents) to clean them out . Don’t know much about this but just a thought.
