Although science grads might be preferred (I am guessing for their mathematics exposure), can I not bolster my chances for the shortlists through doing quality and rigorous equity research?! (Or independent project/work ex related to any other instrument where one's interests lie?). I still feel that with finance related experience, conceptual clarity about fin analysis and good academic performance in quant disciplines in the MBA or getting an institute rank might allow students from non-science stream to perhaps compete decisively, if not land a role in IB?

This was an informative video- Almost every youngster wants to get into IB these days- Campus Placement is the best route to get into IB. Agree with the point on science background - as you can understand the nuances of an industry quickly

The same student who endured stress to clear jee can also work hard and endure stree to build successful career in engineering as well but that's were they fail because of lack of skills, hence they make a rapid shift to IB and this happens oly in India. Other countries are flexible and most of the investment bankers have degree from commerce background.

@@minute7209 no lol , they don't fail in skills , When you are 16 , you don't know what you want to do in life and if you are bright you end up taking science , and becoming a engeneer And hence most smart kids are in engeneering, and when they figure out what they like , they switch fields and that's why not just commerce , every field is dominated by engineers

Guess it’s important to reflect on skills and focus areas: risk management (esp market and credit), financial instruments accompanied by very high level of stress appetite (unfortunately). Trading in commodity market is also a good entry point for IB. But in my own view understanding of risk and risk based decisioning is key to a successful career in IB.

Thank you :) During sectionals, target attempt rate first and foremost. Accuracy can be improved after attempts are stabilized. Analysing the sectionals will take care of your learning from the questions. But, sectionals will truly help you with improving attempts, especially if the weaker areas.

The most plausible reason I think global IB's hire engineers over CA and other degree is because Indian engineers are the most malleable creatures. Think it this way, an average Indian engineer under goes 4 years of engineering, would have landed a boring mass recruitment job in IT/ ITES, Civil, mechanical domian and worked slogging his ass off for 2-3 years to eventually dislike his job and its prospects. He then decides to bell the friggin CAT, learn finance from scratch, gets professional certification course whilst maintaining an above average CGPA and if all of this was not enough he was learning the actual skills that mattered in an IB role. (Programming language- Python/R, visualization- power BI/ TABLEAU and quant). Now if this dosen't make the poor chap get a decently paying IB job, then I don't know wtf an Indian engineer would do?

Hi Shweta, I have 3+ years of work experience in IT role and i am a bcom (hons) graduate from DU. During this time period i had tried but could not get into any finance related role. Now i am preparing for MBA and my aim is to get into investment banking but i do not have CA/CFA degree and in order to compensate for that, i am planning to do a couple of finance related certification courses. In my 10th and 12th my scores were more than 90% and in graduation it was 65%. So will it eventually make any difference in my selection in IB?

Yes I think as you got a Hit in marks in grad that might have been the reason you were not able to get a finance role even after being from DU. And In India probably the best would be to not prepare for CAT and get a relevant work ex or Try for CFA.

Hey ,please can you tell me that are there CIMA students in IIMs and what kind of placements are they offered? And whether certifications other than cfa like CIMA are useful to get into iims.?

I have done B.Tech and I am currently working as a DAA role i.e. Decision Analytics Associate at ZS Associates so will it be considered as a relevant experience for IB firms..? and I am also preparing for CFA as my academics are 9.4/82.4/8.9 will this combination be enough..? I am a B.sc Maths, Statistics, fresher I want to get finance experience and then go to MBA finance, for IB,but on LinkedIn majority of job openings for finance,required B.Com,Bachelor in finance or accounting, please tell what companies hire non commerce backed students for finance roles,and what skills to pursue to spike my chances of shortlisting. Also,I am also preparing for actuarial science papers from IFoA (UK actuarial society),so should I mention it on CV? Hey Di! can't thank you enough for this. The way you cover every point in short span of time is appreciatable. I want a reference from you, I am in 12th this year and I have no as such interest in doing CA as of now. so for this year I am concerned about developing some potential skills that will help me furthermore and my 12th of course coz i have to make it to SRCC. And during my graduation I will prepare for CFA and by the end of 3rd year I will give my CFA , if level 1 gets cracked(touchwood) then I will continue with level 2. So by the time I'll be 21 something. As soon as CFA level 2 completed I'll start preparing for CAT (along with job).Do CFA and BCOM degree will provide a job? As you mentioned if you have prior work exp., it will increase our chances. So should I do FMS also by the end of 12th? I would be glad to know your feedback on this. hey , m also pursuing cfa and in a similar situation as you have mentioned . i think i have few things for you that can make your journey better . if you want then i can suggest you some better ways that i wish somebody else would have suggested me when i was in 12th i.e 4 yrs ago.

Hi mam, i am a commerce student. I have a chance of getting admitted into bcom hons and bachelor of economics hons both at two reputed colleges respectively (both are at top 10 in nirf).
