SHOCKER: This New Polaris Side-by-Side Costs MORE Than a Fully Loaded Pickup Truck...Let's Compare!

( www.allTFL.com ) Check out our new spot to find ALL our TFLstudios content, from news to videos and our podcasts! This Polaris Ranger XD 1500 aims to bring next-level capbility, to the point where some versions (with accessories) are priced comparatively to a fully loaded midsize truck. Alex just happens to have access to a midsize truck - the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X - and wants to answer a question: Does this side-by-side deserve to demand that kind of cash? Let's find out!

This isn't a fair comparison. The truck can jump on the Hwy and go 80mph in comfort from tank to tank as long as you want to be in it.

That Polaris Ranger XD is just as safe off-road, and even more practical than a pickup truck. I own a decently large property down here in Texas, and the Polaris Ranger XD is way more practical for daily use on my property. I clearly own pickup trucks for other for towing and other things, but their use is limited deep on the property when it comes to maneuverability and practicality.

I used one as my primary vehicle on a large military base and it was great. As an electrician I could haul people and things and fit into smaller locations vs the trucks. I had a ladder(s) strapped to the top at all times. It was a great work vehicle. We did not have AC and in 115+ temps it was not fun. But the price of the new ones are insane for what they are. The one I used was around 20k in 2019.

This machine can be an option in my county in Virginia/West Virginia area which allows ATV and SxS on the road with a horn and blinker kit. Half my drive is cut in half when utilizing the trail system then partial road. The offroad capability with the SxS along with the creature comforts while in the summer and winter while snow plowing will be nice.

Look people this was typical TFL, just for fun. It is a legit comparison because Polaris said the XD is so people do not have to go home, while on the ranch, and get a truck to do your towing. So that’s who this is for. The guy in TX with a huge ranch or someone that lives deep in the woods and does the work. Not your typical truck owner that never sees work.

Incredible job by Alex! This type of comparison really drives the nail in deep on the issue of how much Americans are willing or required to pay for features, specs, and capability in a vehicle that moves under it's own power. I was a Finance manager 4 score and 3 eons ago when the concept of side by sides were just being introduced to the market. Seeing that fully loaded model with heated seats, drive modes, full HVAC- it is just mind blowing. And I think comparing the MSRP of the fully loaded side by side with what is essentially an almost fully loaded mid size truck is a huge wake up slap to potential consumers shopping in either category. I really think this was a timely and valid comparison of perspective and as with everything Alex has done in front of the camera for TFL so far, it was done expertly! Let's get Alex in front of the camera more often! Great job Alex!!!

Polaris is literally trying to make the world’s shittiest and most expensive plastic truck. Loud, uncomfortable and obnoxiously unreliable. He didn’t show the air gaps in the doors either. Polaris needs to stay in their lane and get back to making actual reliable ATVs like the old Sportsman 500, rather than issuing daily recalls and drive halts on their RZRs and building ATVs that have more issues than time magazine out the door.

IF I had in any real interest/need in owning an ATV of any brand it would have to have doors, windows, and windshield wiper(s). Standard headlights and taillights would be fine. The more tech stuff the manufacturers cram into ATVs (or 4X4 pickups and SUVs for that matter) the more stuff there is to break...But then that DOES mean more money passing from buyers back to dealerships and manufacturers when parts and labor are factored in, unless I'm badly mistaken. I'm sure that any ATV I picked out for my purposes would be used for maybe twenty or thirty hours a year and reside in our garage the rest of the time. Of course, I would also need to purchase a trailer to tow my imaginary ATV to and from any place I might need it. Oh, and let us not forget that I would also need a pickup or SUV capable of towing the trailer-ATV combination to get them from here to there and back while remaining useable as a daily driver. As it happens, The Lovely Bride and I own one full size 4X4 RAM that is fully capable of towing such a load and an '05 "beater" Colorado 4X4 that MIGHT BE. I just can't see trying to convince myself and/or The Lovely Bride that spending more than we paid for our three-bedroom house and the double lot it sits on would be a good plan since the ATV and its trailer would get so little use during any given year.

I have a 21 honda Pioneer 1000-5 that was 17k and I thought that price was a bit ridiculous. I get the full cab and HVAC. But 50k is just nuts. SxS are built pretty cheaply. Plastic bushings and thin metal everywhere. Hearing that belt is supposed to last the life of the vehicle and in the same breath hearing it lasts twice as long as a rubber belt floored me a little. I've had 3 different Polaris SxSs with a CVT and rubber belts. Everyone I know does good to get 2k miles out of belt. We always carried a spare. So am I to assume this 50k+ ranger has a life expectance of around 4-5k miles? lol

3 year unlimited mile powertrain warranty on the ranger. Not too bad for a SxS

Why all the sxs hate? How much would it cost to build out a pickup or Jeep to have the off road capability of once these machines. Then if you did it probably wouldn't be any good a daily driver.

Not even close total different use Polaris is getting ridiculous with pricing. I have a 2020 XP 1000 Crew and that was about as much as I could justify for a hunting vehicle. I love what my ranger does but would never pay the price for this new one!

$, need vs want, purpose/frequency of use, justification, brand loyalty, personal comfort. Just like any other purchase. For some it can be more about "look at what I wasted money on". That would be me IF I had the $ to waste. 🤑 Then again if I had the $ to waste I might make it justifiable by purchasing hundreds of acres to roam around on. I doubt forest rangers and the likes are being treated to this ultra expensive trim for their jobs. 😉

I didnt finish watching the video because I was put off by the statement that "Polaris is aiming to replace the mid-size truck". This statement needs to be clarified. If Polaris has made this statement then there is much information missing because it sounds foolish. If the reviewer is making this statement, then it would be to replace the mid-size truck for offroad purposes.

Seems silly to compare these two vehicles since you can't legally drive the SxS on a highway. You need a real truck to tow the SXS to the play area.

Many states you can legally drive these SxS on roads. You just need blinkers, mirrors, and a lighted license plate.

I get that you guys have to be creative to get viewers but, comparing apples to oranges is just silly! The only thing they have in common is their outrageous pricing! Just buy an old cheap Jeep and dump about 20 grand in it and you have a great reliable and capable off road vehicle. The 30 grand that you just saved you could throw a great party and still be better off than wasting your money on a side by side. Buy smart and not to keep up with the Jone’s on a toy that is going to break and cost even more to repair! You were touting the side by sides great payload compared to the GMC but you didn’t mention the curb weight of the vehicles that will play a major role in payload capacity! As always stay safe and healthy! Ron

Neat comparison and I would love to have that crew cab side by side but its way out of my price range. And with only 110 hp 3cyl and a cvt transmission no thx. Heck I believe my Honda element with a 4cyl has more power than that side by side lol!!!!!!

A luxury vehicle compared to a toy. If they were amphibious like a Sherp that would increase the desirability. As they are no thanks.
