Shnootz - Reaction Video (Morten Harket - Evig Ung)

What's up, people! I'm back with another Morten Harket side-project reaction (not too many left now!), and this time we listen to his Norwegian cover of Bob Dylan's song "Forever Young," an original I'm not familiar with (though I do know some of Dylan's work and looked up the original lyrics before listening here). And I enjoyed the mellow guitar-poet vibes to this one, as well as Morten's vocal performance, a few moments of which seemed like an homage to Dylan. Also this cover appeared on a 1995 Norwegian compilation that translates to "Come Out and Play." In any case, join me as we continue with the remaining Morten material. Cheers!

Okay...first off, I have to come clean. I am not a Bob Dylan fan in the least. I have tried for so many go on about how great he is, how amazing his work is, etc etc. I can not get past his voice. It is just not me. Matt, I love how you described Bob's voice as an "Acquired taste". I am going to use that. 😁Well, since MORTEN was singing it, thought I'd give it a try. I did go and listen to the original first. I listened to the whole thing, yes...I did. Oh my goodness. The lyrics are quite beautiful. His voice eh...an acquired taste that I have not acquired for sure. 😉😂 This though....wow...I really like hearing Morten sing it. Yes, he does pay homage to Dylan a bit , but wow, as you said, Matt, it's still has Morten's "floating" voice. I like what Marjorie said about it feeling semi religious, like a prayer to his kids. I was thinking while listening to Morten, this felt like a religious kind of vibe. It was truly beautiful to me. He had some nice rasp and scratch, but also soared a bit. It felt very heartfelt. I could listen to this a lot. Maybe too I am just a sucker for listening to Morten sing basically ANYTHING in Norwegian. Could be true. 🤔🤗😄

Morten puts his own stamp on Dylan’s song which was written I believe as a lullaby for Dylan’s first son Jesse in 1966. Morten’s version is less lullaby and more like an anthem…but the words whether expressed either in English or Norwegian are semi religious in the form of a prayer or blessing from a father to his child or children. Given that Morten is a father several times over I’m not surprised that this song appealed to him to cover. What else can I say…other than as expected it’s a great version sung with great emotion & passion.

Wow, that was well put. I did feel like Morten put a more of a semi religious flavor to it as well with his voice. It was quite beautiful.

Morten recorded this Norwegian version of Bob Dylan's "Forever Young" in 1995 for a compilation album featuring various Norwegian artists under the collective name Lekekameratene ("play mates"), titled "Kom Ut Og Lek!" ("Come Out And Play!). It was an initiative of the Norwegian Labour Organisation to focus on child labour. I didn't know the original and this is not really my kind of music, and it's far from being one of my favourite solo tracks by Morten. 😜 I didn't look up the lyrics, but you're right, by what I could understand it seems to be quite a direct translation of Dylan's song. Not a very interesting track to me, but, like Marjorie says, it's sung with emotion and another good chance to enjoy Morten's voice. 😉 Indeed, my personal selection of Morten's solo side projects is coming to an end. But that doesn't mean necessarily that it's the end of Morten Mondays (I will see what I can find of interest next). Lucca's sleep was undisturbed. 😸

Oh really? I truly liked it. Guess we go our separate ways here. Ah well. Goodness, how many more songs does Morten have out there? I am impressed and happy that there are so many.

@@shelld1261 All I said is that it's not my kind of music and not one of my favourites from Morten's solo projects, but I don't dislike it. 😁 That's why it made it to my selection. The next two tracks are even further down my list and I might not even had shared them with Matt of Marjorie hadn't requested them. 😉🙃
