Shnootz - Reaction Video (Ace of Base - Beautiful Life)

What's cracking, folks! I'm back with another Ace of Base reactions, and I have heard your advice, lol. Indeed, we'll circle back and hit those remixes and alternative versions on the second/bonus disc of Happy Nation down the line, but for now, I wanted to follow the suggestion of Pascal and a couple others by starting The Bridge album (1995). And as you'll see, I didn't recognize this track by name ... until it started, and especially once the chorus hit, after which I realized I obviously heard this one at some point in the past. In any case, join me for a great album-opener from Ace of Base. Cheers!

As a single this was bound to be one of the ones that you recognised. It was a huge hit in the clubs at the time and actually the only one of their songs that made me part with cash, as I have the CD single.

„The Bridge“ is very much a typical Ace of Base album when you only judge it by the first three tracks. The rest is very personal and has more depth. The band members deal with themes like death in the family or suddenly being international stars. One of the most terrifying aspects of that success was when a psychopathic fan broke into the sister‘s home with a knife and threatened Linn and Jenny, as well as their mother. Thank god nobody was hurt. But it colors the themes in this album and the songwriting. Probably their most „uncommercial“ album in parts but that’s also why it’s so great.

Enjoyed seeing your reaction! This is one of my favorites on an album that is full of favorites. This album ended up being Linn's last major effort, as she became mostly a background singer after this CD.

Ok so those backing vocals are AMAZING !!! It's hard to listen to this without testing my blood sugar levels after. It's super sweet but also not annoying it's actually epic in a way. I really like this song... it could stand to be a minute longer IMHO.

I remember the first time I heard this track - thinking OMG, Abba is back and they've gone full tilt techno. I quickly discovered my mistake , but was still pleasantly surprised. Quite a compliment to AOB for this Abbaesque dance track that is still completely their own. Still a favorite.

“Beautiful Life” is my favorite song ❤. It was way ahead of its time. There are so many layers going on, different swirling melodies, a melancholic sound with the most positive lyrics ever, etc. It has a very classical structure to it. Also, it has like 3 bridges (“You’re looking for somewhere…”, an instrumental bridge, and “I’m gonna take you to a…”) in a row before the final repeating chorus. It’s a deceptively complex song, It came to Jonas at the end of a vacation at the Canary Islands. Personally, I’ve used this song in my darkest times to help pull me out of it, and in my brightest times to mark a positive experience. It was the band’s favorite to perform live. A lot of artists and producers have been “inspired” by Beautiful Life. For example, if you listen to Miley Cyrus’ latest hit, Flowers, you’ll notice it’s almost the same song. Also, when Michael Jackson met the band at the World Music Awards backstage, he told them that Beautiful Life was one of his favorite songs of all time!

„Beautiful Life was very successful worldwide, reaching number-one both on the RPM Dance/Urban chart in Canada and the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in the United States. In Europe, it made it to the top 10 in Denmark, Finland, France, Hungary and Lithuania, as well as on the Eurochart Hot 100 and MTV's European Top 20, where it hit number nine and eight. Additionally, the single was a top 20 hit in Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Scotland and the United Kingdom.“ The next track will be a bit more of the usual Reggae pop style, something familiar before the album makes a complete turn and surprises with some new sounds and styles.

The Bridge is more artistic. It includes more collaboration across all members of the band compared to Happy Nation/The Sign. It has more ballads, which changed people's reception to the band's musical stylings.

Miley Cyrus recent worldwide hit 'Flowers' has many vibes of this AOB song either intentionally or coincidentally wether this is admited or not.BL is one of AOB's greatest recordings.
