Shnootz - Reaction Video (a-ha - Scoundrel Days [How Can I Sleep with Your Voice in My Head])

What's up, people! I'm back with another live a-ha reaction, and this time we listen to their performance of "Scoundrel Days" on How Can I Sleep with Your Voice in My Head (2003). As you'll see, I had fun with this one and enjoy the audience response, even if I still probably prefer the sound of the studio version. So join me for some more live a-ha. Cheers!

One of my favourite songs, and no doubt one of the fan-favourites, but of course the album version is very much superior to this live version. 😉 Though it's not a bad one, either. I particularly enjoy Paul's guitar in the middle /close to the end section, after 4:10. 👍 Personally, I think the song was very much "spoiled" in more recent live performances, so I wouldn't say this is one of the worst. Even if, as Marje said, there's just something "off", and Morten's singing is too strained. It was recorded in Paris in 2002, but I don't remember if Morten was having any particular difficulties with his voice at that concert. It has happened in several concerts, though, throughout their career. Morten would rather strain himself to the utmost rather than cancelling or postponing concerts. Wow, one more song and we are finally finished with this album! 🥳 Prepare yourself for some really good stuff afterwards. 😎

Yes, he's straining and it bugs me out of empathy. I would so not enjoy a concert like that for I would be feeling too guilty. He should be resting. Yikes. 😬 I do love the Pål's guitar as well.

Oh wow....yes....I do love the music. Love the organ, the drums, and the guitar. Morten? I can't...I just can't. It's like the "Summer Moved On" song. When he's going for those really big higher notes, no no no...he's not feeling well or his throat is bothering him. 😔 I can't listen to that out of empathy. It feels so wrong that he does that. Morten Morten...PLEASE just cancel, get some nice tea with honey and lemon, rest, take care of yourself. Yikes....I just can't do this one either. No no no...😟 I saw a video clip from some concert in the early 2000's. Maybe it was this one? He comes out, tells people that the doctor said he was so sick that he should cancel and take care of himself, but he's going to go for it anyways. What does the audience do? They cheer. 😳😡You can tell he's sick. He looks pale, sweaty, a bit lethargic, his singing was off, and you could tell he was struggling. What the HECK is wrong with people? They act like he's really not human, but a machine just made for their enjoyment or something. 🤬I am sorry, but to me, that is not a real fan. I think real fans actually CARE about the artists and want what's best for them. I would have been in the audience saying "No no Morten. It's okay. Go take care of yourself." and probably booed or beaten up, I guess. 😂 I couldn't watch someone I care about suffer like that. Yes, this is really hard for me to hear. Sorry guys, have to pass again.

As I have never heard a live recording of Scoundrel Days I probably have a different perspective on this version to everyone else... I really liked it - especially since it is a hell of a difficult song to cover - nevermind cover live. The mixing was not the greatest, but a raw, unbalanced sound almost fits the song content. Hello to all you folks! 🌹🕊

When you mentioned at the beginning of the video about talking about the lyrics, were you thinking of your reaction to The Leap by Bridges which you did last month?

This song has always been up there near the top of my favourites…however, I don’t think I’d count this particular live version as the best I’ve heard, there is something just slightly“off” with it. I’d say with Morten’s vocals, and also the tempo seems slightly slower than usual, which lessens the tense mood and urgency of the whole song. There’s also a strange echoing sound and instrumental imbalance to the whole recording, and for once I’d agree with handsolo it doesn’t really sound like a normal concert version despite the obvious numbers present in the audience response.

This is from the same concert as the "Summer Moved On", right? I agree about Morten's vocals on this one. It was the same with that song as well. To me, he sounds like he's under the weather or that his throat is bothering him. James did say that Morten did have surgery around then. I have a hard time with songs from here because I am empathetic with what sounds like he's suffering a bit. I can't listen to it. Shame for I do love the music part.

Recording issues aside it's a fine enough version BUT (heh big butt) I don't like the 60's sounding reed organ in the back of the sound. It doesn't have the bite it feels like the rebellious nature of the song deserves IMHO. LISA is my go to live version of this.

I like the 60's sound, hahaha....Oh well. 😋Yes, but not fond of it again because Morten doesn't sound well. I don't like listening to him like this at all.
