Shirley Bassey - Time After Time (A Jule Styne/Sammy Cahn song) (1979 Show #1)

Музыка

1979 (Here is a beautiful timeless classic performed by Shirley Bassey on her TV Show)
This song was recorded and released on Shirley's 1978 LP Titled, 'Yesterdays'
ABOUT this song:
"Time After Time" is a jazz standard written by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne in 1947.
It was first introduced by Frank Sinatra (and subsequently by Kathryn Grayson) in the 1947 movie It Happened in Brooklyn. It is also popular within the Barbershop scene.
LYRICS:
Time after time I tell myself
That I'm so lucky to be loving you
So lucky to be the one you run to see
In the evening when the day is through.
I only know what I know
the passing years will show
You've kept my love so young
so new
And time after time
you'll hear me say that I'm
So lucky to be loving you.
And time after time
you'll hear me say that I'm
So lucky to be loving
you...

In my opinion the best British vocalist of all time. Effortless but hugely powerful rendition of a timeless classic.

I have always admired her vocal attack. When she sings 'Time....' after the middle eight it is laser accurate and sung by someone who has complete confidence in her voice. An utterly unique performer and I am so glad I have been able to experience her singing live so many times and seen so many performances on TV

Singers47 - It's too bad that so many people from our country think mainly that Bassey = Bond, but little by little, KZread is great because it helps to get the news out. Once someone stumbles on one of the 700+ songs she has recorded, a good majority of them become hooked. Shirley has sold most of her 140 million records, world wide, from LPs/CDs, not singles. Most who know of Shirley Bassey, do recognize her because of her powerful VOICE. Simply, she is the VOICE, of XXX generations!

SOUNDS LIKE ME 😊 I ACCIDENTALLY FOUND OUT ABOUT DAME SHIRLEY THIS PAST MARCH! I WAS ON UTUBE TRYING TO FIND OUT MORE INFO ON THE HANDSOME MAN (JACK JONES) I HAD JUST WATCHED ON SUPER OLD EPISODE OF THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW! AND THE FIRST VIDEO THAT POPPED UP WAS DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY AND JACK JONES SINGING "IF"... I WAS LIKE, OHHH MYYY GODDDD... WHO IS THE AMAZING WOMAN? WHAT IS THE COMEDY SHOW?:HOW HAVE I NEVER HEARD ANY OF THESE MINDBLOWING SONGS OR THIS THING ABOUT THIS FABULOUS WOMAN!!! NEXT VIDEO (AFTER DOING A SEARCH FOR JUST HER NAME) WAS A PERFORMANCE FROM GERMANY (87?) OF" BORN TO LOSE" AND I LITERALLY CRIED FOR MANY MANY HOURS AFTER WATCHING IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN (FINALLY FOUND THE WHOLE CONCERT)... WATCHING HER SING BORN TO LOSE AT HER GERMAN CONCERT WAS LIFE CHANGING TO SAY THE LEAST!!!!! I LIVED ON THIS PLANET FOR 51 YEARS (3/16/1970), AND NEVER HEARD OF SHIRLEY BASSEY?!? I WENT TO A PERFORMING ARTS SCHOOL, I'VE TOURED WITH WORLD FAMOUS ARTISTS AND BANDS (BOTH AS A FAN OF MUSIC & AN EMPLOYEE) AND MY HAND TO GOD, NEVER HEARD ABOUT DAME SHIRLEY!?! OBVIOUSLY IF I HAD KNOWN ABOUT HER... I WOULD HAVE MUCH RATHER SEE HER IN CONCERT THAN THE UNTALENTED, GREEDY, ENTITLED TRASH I GOING TO SEE! I'M STILL KINDA OF BITTER WITH MY FRIENDS WHO KNEW ABOUT HER AND SAID NOTHING TO ME!!! THANK GOD I FINALLY FOUND OUT ABOUT HER. . DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY IS A TRUE GIFT AND I'M FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR FINDING OUT ABOUT HER!!! SHE'S FABULOUS . FABULOUS... FABULOUS!!!!!!!

@@mizkel4604 I am also born in 1970 on July 11. We had lots of vinyl records and cassettes at home, but never anything with Shirley Bassey. The first time I saw Shirley was on tv when I was a kid. It wasn't the real Shirley. It was Benny Hill doing his impersonations. 🤣 But those few seconds were important and are still in my mind. The first time I heard her voice was in the theme song to the Bond movie Moonraker. Adding that amazing voice to the few seconds from Benny Hill made me think that this woman must be a big star. But I can't remember ever seeing the real Shirley on tv or in the newspaper while growing up. It wasn't until I became an adult and bought a computer with access to the internet in -96 I found her. Since then I'm hooked.

I guess you would have to know that Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn are listed as the songwriters, and Cyndi Lauper wrote her song of the same name. This is why I listed Styne and Cahn in the title. This song that Shirley is performing was written back in 1947, before Lauper was born, and it was introduced by Frank Sinatra (and subsequently by Kathryn Grayson) in the film "It Happened in Brooklyn". Styne and Cahn are two of two of most influencial songwriters of the mid-20th century.
