Music video for Get The Party Started by Dame Shirley Bassey. This incredible recording can be found on the Get The Party Started album, which is out now. A new single with some fabulous dance mixes by NorthxNWest, Flip N Fill and Fugitive, as well as this music video is now also available.
Get The Party Started was produced by Catherine Feeney, Nikki Lamborn (Never The Bride), Bob Kraushaar and Chuck Norman (NorthxNWest) with backing vocals by Rietta Austin, Margo Buchanan, Nikki Lamborn and Catherine Feeney. The music video was produced by Hera King and directed by Harvey and Carolyn (Crossroads Films).
This song was written by Linda Perry and originally recorded by Pink. Shirley sang it for the M&S Christmas TV ad, filmed in a spy movie style, and featured models Lizzy Jagger, Erin O'Connor, Laura Bailey, Noemie Lenoir and Twiggy as undercover agents on a secret mission to attend an exclusive DSB performance at a glamorous Christmas party.
It's difficult to know where to begin when it comes to describing Dame Shirley's incredible career which has spanned over 50 years. Having just celebrated her 70th birthday and a top ten UK album DSB proves age is no barrier for creating great music.
The original Welsh Diva and one of Wales' greatest musical exports, she stands tall alongside fellow Welsh singers Charlotte Church, Katherine Jenkins, Tom Jones, Cerys Matthews, Dorothy Squires, Bryn Terfel and Bonnie Tyler to name but a few.
During her career Shirley has also collaborated with Swiss band Yello on The Rhythm Divine. She sang with Chris Rea on his Ferrari inspired film, La Passione, and probably most famously with The Propellerheads whose international club hit History Repeating propelled her into the spotlight. It featured on the soundtrack to the movie There's Something About Mary starring Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz and was the music behind a Jaguar car ad.
Shirley is the only singer to have recorded more than one James Bond Theme. She recorded three! Applauded by John Barry, Sean Connery and David Arnold, her hit records Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever ranked as the two best Bond themes ever in a recent poll, where she comfortably beat fellow Bond singers such as Tina Turner, Madonna, Paul McCartney, Matt Monro, Gladys Knight, Sheryl Crow, Lulu and Sheena Easton to the top spots. Casino Royale star Daniel Craig recently suggested DSB should record the next theme - after hearing The Living Tree you can't help but see he's got a point!
In recent years Shirley's recording of Diamonds Are Forever was sampled by hip-hop star Kanye West.
DSB has performed duets with acts such as Neil Diamond, Andy Williams, Alain Delon, Michael Ball, Bryn Terfel, Charles Aznavour, Jack Jones, Robert Goulet and Eydie Gorme and shared a stage with Ray Charles and Liza Minnelli on a successful tour.
In an episode of American Idol (the US equivalent to The X-Factor) contestants Jordin Sparks, Lakisha Jones and Melinda Doolittle all chose Shirley Bassey hits to impress judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul. Chris Sligh said "Shirley Bassey rocks hard core" and presenter Ryan Seacrest proclaimed that it was Dame Shirley Bassey songs that ruled the night.

Her Bond themes are so iconic that all Bond songs tend to lean towards the Shirley Bassey style. It was cute! No disrespect to Ms. Bassey because I love her body of work. But she only has style of singing that comes across when I hear hear her, Pop, rock, Rhythm and blues is not it. But as fan and people like yourself, and other people like me who is open to all styles and sounds of music would only appreciate the effort. There is only one Diva! God rest her soul, that was able to do it all and capture all generations of fans despite her horrific addiction that messed with her voice over the years and tragic murder by the powers that be, is Ms. Whitney Houston. Like her or not! Respect her or not, deny it, or agree with me! No one could never take that from her until the next one comes along in the future.

I can't believe she did a cover of this. But that voice is GAWDLY! I love her voice in this song!
I love this woman so much. Spent all of the 60s and 70s not liking her because my father considered her ‘pop music’ and ridiculed everything she did. But when she did ‘All The Sad Young Men’ I cried buckets and couldn’t deny her any longer. You absolutely rock, Dame Shirley, and you outsing this daft pop song by a million starry miles. Pink's version was more "in your face" and sweaty...the kind of song that makes you move till you sweat on the dance floor. Shirley's version is more polished and sophisticated The best version depends on your perceptions. Different strokes for different folks! Love that they used this to do a james bond style intro for cats and dogs 2. Made the movie even better.
I'm not sure what I was expecting, I guess just a Shirley Bassey song, but the fact that it's a Pink cover got me off guard.
I never appreciated this version when I heard it as a teen. Now, I'm digging it.

This is a fantastic cover, but I think what I love the most is that she is obviously having a wonderful time doing it. :) As a side note, it's nice to see men used in a synchronized floor routine (as opposed to the usual scantly clad women), and the choregraphy and visuals are equally classy and well executed.

I was going through a bad time 15 years ago, and this performance was such a wonderful escapist listen. Now in 2023, I'm happier in every dimension of my life and it's good to go back to pay homage to this ELECTRIC woman and her voice.

I missed this fifteen years ago. I remember my dad playing his Shirley Bassey album in the 70's. I also remember her Bond theme song. Then, Goldfrapp came along with her Felt Mountain album thinking, "Wow, she sounds like Shirley Bassey. Wasn't Shirley great?" What a powerful voice!

Agreed - in fact, whereas the Mercedes-Benz the song references might be fine for Pink, you’d expect Dame Shirley to roll up in the back of a Rolls, tbh I think this is a great song for Pink, but somewhat beneath Shirley, somehow
