Shipwreck Skillet Casserole - Cheap 1 Pot Dinner in 30 Minutes - Hard Times - The Hillbilly Kitchen
Shipwreck Skillet is a Hamburger Casserole that you can cook on the stove top without heating the house up. It is a simple, one pot dish that is perfect for any weeknight dinner and you can have on the table in less than 30 minutes. The variations are virtually endless. It's easy, affordable, and delicious. You can make it with the ingredients that you already have on hand. No need for a shopping trip in a specialty food store. This is the kind of meal that I grew up on, and I raised my 4 kids on.

Having come out of an abusive relationship. As a bachelor, I'm now needing meals and came upon this and I thank you for your devotional that you put in the middle of your program. Thank you very much. Pray for me as I deal with my recovery and healing from covert, narcissistic abuse and learning to live on my own alone retired at 61.

Exactly the way I heard the phrase. My grandmother was born in 1900 and had about 7 children. Although technically not part of the Depression of the 20's, with the loss of my grandfather to a roadside accident when my father was 12 years old... the family suffered and was helped by local angels as well. I saw the lessons of my uncles effects of that upbringing often. No waste was a normal lesson. Thank you for your story also!

We, here in Europe face the same difficulties as the American people... I stumbled into this recipe and did some cooking tonight (one person cooking), added some pepper and garlic to it, and it turned out delicious. Now I have 6 extra portions in the freezer (for later use) and it cost me less than a dollar for a portion. God bless you, M'lady 😘

I kept plastic container in freezer and when I cleaned off the supper table if there were leftovers in amounts too small for another meal such as a spoon or two of spaghetti sauce, spoon of corn or green beans I would toss them into my freezer container. When it was enough for a pot of soup, I'd dice up a couple of potatoes, open a can of tomatoe sauce, dump in the container have soup for supper, practically a free meal or 2. (TASTES better than soup made from all new ingredients)
Becky, We are watching from Israel! I'm from NC and now live in Jerusalem. I keep a big bag of frozen mixed veggies to use in dishes like this. I almost always reduce the amount of ground beef and throw in a can of pork & beans. The sauce in the beans adds to the tomato flavor, and the beans of course increase the protein. Thanks, Becky, for sharing these economical and easy meals, and for sharing your faith...you're a blessing. May the Lord Bless & Keep You, Make His Face to Shine Upon You, and Give You Peace. Amen.

Im Excited to explore your channel & learn from a wise woman. GOD Bless you🙏 & im trying this recipe tonight but with peas & carrots & some cajun seasoning bc this ole girl is from the deep South of Louisiana😂🙏😊😘
I can’t thank you enough for adding the scripture and talking about being thankful. I’ve just gone through a very tough time after losing my mother and I’m living alone in this big old house by myself. I miss my life of the last 20 years taking care of my parents. I miss them and I miss the life we had together. I started falling into a deep depression and I couldn’t seem to pull myself out of it. But I knew where to turn and I called my church and asked for a counseling session with one of the pastors. talking to him was like talking to my dad and all he did was remind me of God‘s love for me and that He has a plan for me. I know all these things, but yet sometimes we do get discouraged and that’s when our friends need to hold us up in prayer because we are weak sometimes. God has blessed me with some wonderful friends. If I can believe something that seems so ridiculous that someone dying for me tothousand years ago and they know every hair on my head, then it should be nothing difficult than to trust that His word is true! I still have that peace that passes all understanding. Thanks for sharing your faith and your yummy recipes.

In my opinion, Judith, instead of going to the Preacher and letting them give you a pep-talk. What I would do is look up a Therapist through your health-care provider that can assist you. Maybe, even ask the assistance of a psychologist, because I think that they are the ones who can prescribe medication. You might have clinical depression and it won't just get better by a quick talk from someone in the church, because it will come back and won't improve -- if you don't resolve the chemical imbalance in your brain that has occurred from the external trauma. So, I'm suggesting all of this, because I did same thing as you. And, it kept getting worse. So, deciding to really fix the problem -- instead of just "talking about God's Love" and a temporary "Feel Good" pep-talk, isn't what I needed, because the assistance from the clinical side who have degrees and medical training to really resolve and eliminate the problem. So, hope you don't take offense. If you want to interact more, just write back. Sincerely, I do hope you get better.

And I feel so good. And yes I catch myself calling my sister to ask about a recipe. Than I remember. But I'm gonna be ok. Keep believing in yourself and take walks. God is always there. @@tommiejones1072 my husband too. He can't imagine a meal without a meat focal point. I made a pot of beans & threw in a piece of smoked brisket from the freezer. Best beans I had ever made. Delicious. Hubs was even happy.
Becky, your a God send to us. I'm by myself now and you make all these dinners easy and look delicious. Which they are, I've made a few. Most of my dinners now are your recipes. Thank you and God Bless you, your Family and all your subscribers. 🙏🙏
I don't go here but I just wanted to say thank you for your videos because my gramma LOVES them and just shines when she talks about your recipes! It makes my heart so full that she has your videos to look forward to.
I just came across your channel today and I'm so glad!!! I don't cook as much as I used to but I enjoy watching cooking videos and seeing new recipes. I also love The Lord with all my heart!!!❤❤❤
I feel like I’ve been shipwrecked in a hot and humid chunk of land! This casserole sounds like the best thing to make when I’m wreaking my brain on what to make for supper! 💗

This was a great demo. I've been receiving pantry items offered by our parish. Items are random, but always nutrutious. Ive been doing what I've named "creative cooking." This would be a really creative recipe for me to use. Thanks for the spiritual encouragement as well.
My family calls this “ garbage casserole “ because it IS so versatile!!! You can put anything in it!!! But one thing is for sure..... it’s delicious!!!! Thanks for sharing your version! ❤
We are blessed by his grace through these trying times. Amen. 🙏 🙏 🙏
Just awesome we need more people like her
I love this recipe....seems very versatile with the variations you can do with meat and veggies. Also, love how you share your faith, it is so very encouraging. You, Becky, are a treasure....I am blessed to have found this channel. Love all your recipes. Thanks again!! I will be experimenting with this recipe for sure!!

Oh my gosh I am so thankful for you today! I needed to hear your scripture today and this meal. Never stop ok and God Bless You!!! Thank you! Thank you so much!!! I am glad that I just clicked in my despair.
Amen, without God we have nothing, we have to keep God close. We have to wake up each day and thank God for the things we have .
Years ago I was taught to make “shipwreck soup”, which basically consisted of cleaning all the leftovers out of the fridge & putting it in the crock pot with tomatoes & seasoned beef. Which was basically your version but as a soup. Love the recipes & His word. God bless you sister 💜🕊

Love the reverse approach - I always considered recipes in a cookbook to be nothing more than culinary "paint by numbers". Look in the fridge,or cabinet, or garden- if you can't cook up something tasty and filling, YOU AIN'T A COOK.
This sounds and LOOKS sooo delicious !!! I remember my Mamma making a dish quite the same, but, she did use thin sliced potatoes or rice in it sometimes when we didn't have any boxed Mac & Cheese to use. And, she called it "Garbage Can Stew" or somethin' like that. 😋 It was a funny name, and, we loved eating it when she ever made it when we were kids back in the 70's. Being a family of six, we had to stretch our meals, bunches. I had forgotten about this dish, and, when I watched this video, it brought back so many memories. Also made me wanna make some tomorrow - or as it is, later on today cause I'm up watchin' this at 4:22 AM. (I have insomnia - ARRRGH !!!) TYSM for reminding me of this delicious meal. I appreciate your help and advice. GOD BLESS YOU ALSO !!!
TY for your wonderful recipes, your Scripture messages and your delightful pearls of wisdom! You are such a sweet blessing❤
I just recently discovered this channel and I am absolutely loving these recipes. This is definitely something I could just throw together with what I already have in my kitchen. ❤️
Thank you so much for this recipe. I made it last night (we like seasoned foods, so I used Salsa lizano and Wegman's everything but the bagel and water with Maggi powdered chicken bullion)...my husband, who is not a fan of hamburger, ate 2/3rd of the large skillet. I had thought I would have this for a couple of days, but my son and husband just finished it off along with their breakfast. Shipwrecked is a huge win.
Thank you for the reminder, Becky. May God bless you and your family!
I love this recipe. I am adapting it today. My leftovers are zucchini, shredded cabbage, baked potato, Vidalia onion and butternut squash soup. I am adding ground beef, rice, curry powder, garlic salt to it. And will top it with cheese. It is smelling wonderful! I made it like yours with spaghetti the first time. It was excellent. My husband loved it. Shipwreck is awesome! Also am going to try to pre cook ground beef or turkey ahead of time and freeze it😺😺😺

Love precooked ground beef! I buy the big rolls of ground beef, bring it home a nd set up assembly line. I take approximately 1pound of raw meat put in skillet and break up and cook til done. Pour it into colander that's setting over metal bowl in the sink. Start another pound in skillet, while that is cooking I pour the meat from colander onto a cookie sheet to cool. When second batch of meat is done I pour it into colander and start 3rd batch of meat. While it cooks I scoop 1st batch of meat into freezer bag, pour 2nd batch onto cookie sheet to cool. Repeating this until all meat is cooked, drained, cooled and bagged. Then place bags in freezer for fast meals. Wash 1 skillet,1 colander and 1 sheet pan. Place metal bowl in fridge to solidify and dispose of and wash 1 bowl. Then fast meals such as shipwreck, goulash, spaghetti with meat sauce, vegetable beef soup, tacos etc. Can be ready and on the table in a matter of minutes. Life saver!!
i absolutely am in awe watching you use the papertowel or cloth to absorb the grease, i am 81 yrs old and i have never seen anyone but me do that. i had someoneover one day making fun of me telling me he didn't eat paper towels no matter what the ingredients were. l have done this for year, i don't put grease in my sink, i don't have a disposal either. i take all the grease out of all my pans and dishes before they are washed, i don't have stopped up sewers and i have been in the same home since 1973, for a few yeas as the kids got older we had a few problems in the same spot , once i found the problem and showed the kids it never happened again. same in the bathroom, sign on the cabinet door, nothing goes in the toilet but toilet tissue and what comes from you. we can't help being poor but we do not have to be stupid. thank you so much for all the help on feeding us, and remember i can't be the only one that loves that accent.
That looks delicious. Reminds of meals at home when I was young. Momma always was mixing stuff together. Lol thanks for sharing love and prayers to you sweet lady. 🥰
Mama always added this or that to her dishes, she called it making another bite. I do the same, and we use leftovers! It may look different the next time on the table but we use all we can. Amen, we are so blessed. So many can't even afford a roof overhead. We tend to forget how many blessings we enjoy. I enjoy- and use your recipes. Stay safe and GOD bless
Nice dish :) For myself, I like to add frozen peas right at the end (of any dish), as they dont really need to cook (just heat through). That way, they stay firm and 'pop-y', keep the green color, and most important, help cool the dish down to eating temp (hot food + frozen peas = warm ready to eat :D ) Cheers
I totally agree. Realize how much God has Blessed you with! He is Good all the Time!!😊❤ Thank you for not only sharing so many wonderful recipes but how God can fill you with the greatest Blessings of All!!
Made this delicious casserole after watching the video. My 2 young picky grandsons ate it up and asked for seconds! It’s a winner!

For anyone who is buying the canned tomatos, please watch your sodium content on the side of the container. A lot of brands seem to think they need to drown the juice inside with salt. It makes a big difference to your flavor, aside from being not very healthful. I have made this sort of recipe before, Becky. So glad you shared it. I usually keep at least one diced frozen onion and a few mixed colors of diced bell peppers in the freezer to add to anything I'm making. They add nutrients, flavor and body to the meals. Hugs!

Yes, and please watch your canned beans for excessive sodium as well, some have astronomical amounts, and others very little!
Becky that is so cool when you pulled out the red spice. I have it as well. I had gotten those Isreal packs for about a year. I had to quit a couple of months ago as I cant afford them anymore. But they are so interesting, I loved mine. It really was fun to almost feel like a tourist to get their products. I am glad that you are advertising for them. I always enjoy your videos. Thanks!
Thank you so much for always reminding me that God is in control and loves us through everything!! May you always know the Peace of God!! Bless you!!

I love your scriptures and encouragement. I think you're going to hear, "Well done, good & faithful servant!" I would gobble that shipwreck right up! I just bought some zucchini and yellow squash. That would be good in it too. Anything really. Thank you for your videos. Love them.
Thank you for your nourishment not only to our bodies but to our souls. Your messages are so needed and thank you for taking time for the scripture in your messages
Love, Peace, God's Blessings and my personal appreciation 💗🕊️
Made this for supper tonight, we all loved it! This recipe is a keeper.
Made this for dinner tonight. Wow, it was really good for a low cost meal. Yum! I enjoy learning from you. My grandparents died when I was young and my mother was a nurse, so we had tons of box dinners. Thank you for all that you have taught me in how to cook from scratch. It really is pretty simple. God bless you. 💕
First time seeing this lady (4/20/24). I needed this today! Currently struggling! So happy I saw this today!
I Love watching your cooking and especially hearing your verses! I'm not real religious but like hearing the word !
Brings back memories when I was a child visiting Grandpa's house in the country. Nothing fancy, but everything tasted great and filled you up. This just shows us that you don't have to go hungry when food prices are soaring. Thank you for the videos you produce. God Bless you.

If I’ve learned anything from country family members they use a lot of onion, potato , ground beef , with a bread .. I swear onion makes everything taste better lol but I learned to make so many dishes with potatoes lol Those country meals are such great comfort food. I made some meatballs with onion gravy today / with white instant rice … I was so surprised that the gravy tasted like grandpas 😋 My kids love love love her hamburger stew or the “poor mans stew” too
