Hypersonic missiles cannot turn more than .5°/a second in hypersonic mode if traveling over 3000 mph. Hypersonic missiles are always detectable throughout their flight due to the extreme friction heat they produce. This means that the CWIS can easily identify its trajectory, and send a bullet salvo on a trajectory intercept. As for missile to missile interception, it's possible, but only in a head-to-head air burst scenario.... as it's impossible to chase a hypersonic missile. Super sonic missile systems would be much more effective for their maneuverability alone.

It’s not necessarily, but could be, the age of the vessel or size that trumps the competition. It’s the effectiveness of the ship and it’s officers and crew that does the job. As well as serving on mid 60’s and early 70s destroyers, I served on the helm of a Canadian (British built) WWII ship that (at it’s 43 knots plus) could outrun many of the destroyers seen here and found elsewhere around the world (because speed is less relevant today). That ship easily found the USS Nautilus (a bet between ranking officers was also rumoured) before it left Norfolk. That atomic sun never reached it!’s New York destination before it was found and nailed with a Checkmate! A recent invention (little known and used at the time) variable depth sonar (VDS) and a last minute installation on the RCN hunter gave a surprise to Nautilus. The RCN’s choice of equipment was the deciding factor for both capable crews. Air crews with day to day limitations have also performed similarly. There is a lot shared amongst countries and their military. There is still a secretive element , however, and ships are designed for a country’s needs and for specific purposes. USA is a combat giant with wolves at it’s door. Canada respects and primarily supports their allies with experienced and ever developing anti -submarine warfare (two ships of mine were credited for sinking more than two U-boats)., and Ivan was well aware about the inclusion of the Canucks’ (and others’) successful past and present reputation during the previous Cold War. No doubt they are even now. Equipment on board today includes American and other, including Canadian, weapon systems. We can be found to share warning systems, and tweak those to our preference. Fast has been replaced by maneuverability and stealth. It’s the David/Goliath argument as we see with the Arizona. Expect the unexpected. God rest those souls. I salute all the allied navies of the free world. Old Chinese saying: A first rate soup is better than a second rate painting. Great video. Well done. Thanks!
