watching this video reminds me the namesake of this ship. bataan, province in the philippines where the infamous ''bataan death march'' happened that killed thousands of american and filipino troops during japanese invasion of the philippines in WW2.

My uncle was in the US Army in the Philippines, survived the Bataan Death Match and retired after 35 years as a Master Sergeant. He never talked about the march or prison camp conditions.

Spent ~6month on this ship back in 2003. This brings back memories.

Sad they didn't show the hangar bay door mural from the 9/11 deployment. USS Bataan (LHD-5) 2001-2002, 2006.

Shout out to the USS Carney. That was the ship doing most of the fighting in the Red Sea. The crew was definitely on top of there game. The crew was so good they were able to shoot down anti-ship ballistic missiles and attack drones launched by the Houthi's.

Fleet week in San Diego was November last year, I got to tour a similar ship and machines, a bit intimidating

Amphibious ships are named after battles the Marines fought in. The latest are named Fallujah and Helmand Province respectively.

The Sailor will be sent back to the US mainland ahead of their end of obligated service or given the opportunity to extend their contract for the duration of the deployment...

Like it and I'm from Bataan Province where this ship is named after from. Can USS Bataan deploy F-35Bs if yes then Japanese South Korean and SIngaporean F-35B pilots can take off from this ship when needed

If USS "Bataan" was officially named after the Battle of Bataan in the Philippines, shouldn't it be correctly referred to as the USS "Batuh-Un"?
