PANGLAO BAY 1 (IMO: 9104275) is a Vehicles Carrier built in 1995 and is owned and operated by Carlos A Gothong Lines. Her length overall (LOA) is 134.66 meters and her width is 22.4 meters. She's the 1st of the new generation of Gothong Ships when she was bought by the company in 2017. Of all the Philippine based Vehicles Carrier / RORO ships, she is one of the best looking, with her sharp bow, sleek lines and beautiful superstructure.

When the original shipping company Carlos A. Gothong & Company broke up in 1972, one of the successor companies was Carlos A. Gothong Lines Incorporated (CAGLI or Gothong Lines) owned by the scions of the founder Don Carlos A. Gothong. It was eclipsed early by Sulpicio Lines Incorporated which was owned by the once operations manager of the mother company. And then its operation and fleet even got smaller in 1980 when Lorenzo Shipping Corporation of Lorenzo Go and two other siblings went their separate way (this company was later sold to the Magsaysay Shipping Group but later the scions of Lorenzo Go founded the Oceanic Container Lines Incorporated which now has the biggest number of container ships in the country which has the “Ocean” series).
Decades later on, the rising company got absorbed when they acquiesced to the creation of big merged shipping company WG & A (which stood for William, Gothong and Aboitiz) in late 1995 and that included their small fleet of RORO Cargo ships and also their Visayas-Mindanao overnight ferries. But this did not last long as Gothong (gothong siblings except bob gothong) divested from WG&A and revived their old Gothong Lines Company in 2000.
The company did not do well in their liner services and sold/scrapped their ships after a decade of operation. Starting in 2017 however, a new series of of efficient and younger ships entered service w/ the company. These ships include the Panglao Bay 1, Dapitan Bay 1 and Batangas Bay 1 (later scrapped because of a terminal issue)
Gothong now only offers roro cargo services serving Manila, Cebu and northern mindanao routes

guys this was taken sometime back in early June 2020. I haven't checked her out recently to see if she had "GOTHONG" completely painted instead of just "OTHONG" ^_^

Seeing this beautiful ship is so nostalgic, i was one of the first crew of this ship when she arrive from japan. Sailing 20-22 knots across the islands of PH is one the best experience like no cargo ships in PH can beat us in terms of speed hehehe.

no for several reasons...1 - gothong does not have a cpc and is suspended from passenger ops. 2 - gothong has no intention to go back to pax shipping. 3 -as per marina circular, pax ships must have atleast 2 engines for redundancy in case of engine failure...panglao bay is a single engine ship so she cant be converted to ropax😊😊😊

due to numerous complaints recieved by marina sir...kasi priority nla ung cargo to the point na laging delayed ung departure by up to 12 hours
