Ship 31 FAILED Cryo Test, Huge Electric Fire! What Exactly Happened? FAA to Investigate KSC
Ғылым және технология
Yesterday, at approximately 7:00 PM, SpaceX conducted cryogenic testing on Starship 31 (S31) at Massey's test site. Unfortunately, the testing did not proceed as planned, resulting in a potential failure and subsequent electrical fire. This incident has raised concerns and sparked a thorough investigation.
Massey's test site has recently become the primary location for all preflight testing for SpaceX, excluding integrated tests. This shift allows the space previously occupied by Suborbital Pad A and B to be repurposed for another orbital pad, signifying SpaceX's continuous efforts to expand and optimize their testing and launch capabilities.
During the cryo testing, S31 experienced some major issues, which led to an electrical fire. The exact cause of the failure is still unknown and is currently under investigation. A drone inspection was promptly conducted to assess the damage and gather critical information.
While the incident may raise concerns, it's essential to acknowledge that setbacks like this are an inherent part of the testing and development process. SpaceX has experienced similar incidents during the early stages of their prototype development, and this incident is likely a minor setback in the grand scheme of their progress.

Look ~ this is WHY you test. This is not a fail, this is a win. They found an issue long before it became a show-stopper. I would be curious what actually happened, but I guess we're only going to know that if Space-X tell us.

Starship is another NASA unaffordable, unsustainable, dead-end 1970s tech throwback, 4 yrs late, $410 million per flight, flies every 2 years, and the rocket it flys on isn’t in production anymore. Other than that it’s great. Defund bloated, pork-driven, failed Federal Agency NASA. Go efficient, innovative, spirited private enterprise SpaceX.

Normally we have like 8 eyes and 10 cameras each static fire, and here we have some long lost camera out in the boondocks.
Why would that cause concern in testing? isnt this the point of testing - to find the flaws before you send that monster to space?

Testing to Failure is the only way to absolutely confirm the integrity or maximum sustainable stress of a developing design. Some industries, like the construction of warships and passenger aircraft, impose much more demanding test regimes than others, because the consequences of failure can result in unacceptable losses. At the same time, this week's SEVEN X-class solar flares, almost all of which generated separate Coronal Mass Ejections, seem the likely proximate cause of the Excess static electricity responsible for unanticipated electrical discharges between the tower and the craft. The extraordinary extent of the Auroras, both Northern and Southern, are merely the most VISIBLE signs of Titanic current flows being directed into the Earth's atmosphere, oceans, crust and mantle.
Thank Gawd it didn’t completely blow up!! Can you imagine😳

Why is the Federal AVIATION Administration conducting an Environmental review? What is the ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY doing? I would prefer the FAA concern itself with flight safety and leave the environment to the EPA.

@@rogerrussell9544Musk needs to remember that SpaceX relies a great deal on tax payer funding. If he conducts himself to irritate a huge block of voters, he deserves push back. His campaign to give hate speech and Anti-Semitism a platform on Xitter, isn't winning him any new fans. Even so: the FAA isn't just "punishing" him as some petty campaign. They do this with a lot of airports and other launch sites with multiple accidents. this has less to do with sea turtles and more to do with not having humans blow up.
Future craft will be even safer now. SpaceX has been doing a phenomenal job! And at such a fast pace its just absolutely amazing. Everything they do just feels like its so well thought through, right down to the impact on the surrounding area.

According to Musk, hyperloop would be useful on Mars as no tubes would be needed because Mars' atmosphere is about 1% the density of the Earth's at sea level.
Bad ground.
A failure of electrical testing before full load applied could have caused the fire, or sabotage, but hopefully not, thank goodness the Starship was not full of fuel and lox, someone needs to explain why it happened and who was the electrician. 🤔😯🚀🚀🚀🚀

Of course its an issue, something going wrong is always an issue. But it does not have to be a major one. (Best case scenario, there was a production issue that can be easy fixed with some minor adjustments and more QC. A little bigger issue if it was a design issue that might affect more prototypes, maybe even those that has passed the test earlier)
Thats why they call them tests

I smell a rat.....or perhaps a mouse. There are at least 5 species of rodents living along the Gulf coast of Texas and they all have one thing in common....they love to chew on wiring insulation. Having rodents chew the wiring harness on local vehicles that are in storage is not unusual. Crank up your motorhome after it has been sitting for a while and you might get sparks or smoke. With all the human activity going on at Starbase, rodents are likely in this area and the preassembled wiring harnesses have to stored with great care. Even partially assembled Starships need to be protected from mice and rats.

Yes I agree, as a Bolivian, with a knowledge of the infrastructure in La Paz, There is a distinct possibility that in the low populated area, south of Copacabana next to the Copacabana international airport a launch facility can be built, without the interference of the FAA. President Luis Arce would have to be asked to clear the way, Keeping in mind that to the west there is a deep water port, Arica , from which an adequate highway exists to San Andrés, allowing structures to be transported. Important is that the southern latitude is around 17.5° at a possible site with an elevation about 13000 feet. This increases the engine's specific impulse, when larger skirts are used, in addition to a 94% contribution of the earth's equatorial velocity. Check this out. Copacabana is on the shores of clean lake Titicaca, with a river carrying enough water for the launch pad, Desaguadero is the river .

You love problems? May you have many and enjoy laughing at yourself.. Based on the number of successful launches and landings, OVER 300 for the F9 since 2013, no other gov or company has more or even an equal number. Ergo, no other company or gov knows more about launches AND landings than Musk and SpaceX. What disturbs you the most, that SpaceX is a free enterprise or Musk enjoys free speech and voices his own opinion? (Soyuz has over 1,000 launches but NO landings and its cadence has been reduced to almost zero by the success of the F9. Russia is working as hard and fast as it can to create a reusable launch vehicle)
