I was likely enough to be studying abroad in Seoul during the SHINee World IV tour. I was actually able to see this performance of Stranger live. It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. SHINee never disappoints.

If you are impressed with Jonghyun's long high note in "Stranger" -- which is about 20 seconds long -- just wait until you hear Key's high note in "Like a Fire" live at their SHINee World Concert III (SWC3) in Seoul in 2014, kzread.info/dash/bejne/oXimuaqvmNiyqMY.html. Or, as mentioned before, Onew's performance of "Friend," with his 40+ second note. (Just search "Onew 'Friend' live performance" or "Onew 40 second note" and you will find fancam clips of it.) "Stranger" is part of the same set of songs that "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" is part of that you already watched from this SHINee World Concert IV (SWC4) in Seoul in 2015. So, right before this they performed "Sherlock" and "Shine" and then their Iconic performance of "Stranger" and then "Picasso" comes next. They don't even have a chance to catch their breath, and yet, right after that, when they interact with the audience, they don't even look or sound like the performance has even started. Fun fact: SHINee's outfits in their "Stranger" performance were designed by Key in collaboration with their stylists. He is the one that embellished them and designed each of them. As you may know, as SHINee's fashion expert, Key often is the one that comes up with SHINee's look for their MVs and live stages. He has a whole portfolio of sketches of ideas for some of their most iconic stage outfits and he meticulously designs every detail and accessory. "Stranger" is a b-side track which was first released as a bonus track on SHINee's repackaged debut Japanese album in 2011. And then the Korean version was included a few months later on their Sherlock album in 2012. "An Encore" is from SHINee's SWC5 in Seoul, so this was the same concert where you just saw "Ring Ding Dong," "Lucifer" and "Replay" from. "An Encore" was part of the final set of the concert -- they had been performing for about 3 hours at this point -- and it was the second to last song. And yet they still look and sound flawless. What you're experiencing is why SHINee are so highly respected and what makes them extra special. There's a reason why their live performances are unmatched. No one can do it the way SHINee does it.

Jjong’s notes is incredible not only because of how long it is, it’s also very dynamic. He went from smooth and steady sound into a higher note with vibrato

I'm glad you're seeing how extra Jjong is🤣...(Personality as well as vocally though..😆) That live song is the Ult Shawol anthem moment. I love it when they go off with the ad libs. Yes I'm totally biased but they seriously have the best live vocals. Minho isn't recognised enough for his vocals which, I think in another group he would be much more..he could easily lead vocally. His range is not quite as diverse, he's a baritone and they write a lot for the higher dramatic falsetto. But his vocals are gorgeous and warm and really shine in the ballads..especially Beautiful Life, Kind, Colors and Winter Wonderland...and also in Countless and Good Evening. Jjong has a huge range and control. He also has a natural vibrato (as does Tae). Key has an amazing range from baritone to falsetto and kicks it with the rap along with Minho. Taemin has a beautiful breathy voice but can deliver the power too. Onew is Onew...enough said (or he'll opera you up). What makes SHINee so special is 5 very great, distinct and different voices that then just blend seamlessly with the harmonies. They know each others strengths and support each other to bring out the best vocal performance. Jonghyun said that his grandmother was a "mermaid", a fisherwoman who collected shellfish from the bottom of the sea and could hold her breath for a very long time, and said that he had inherited his lungs of steel from her, while he had inherited his voice from his mother, who sang in her church choir (he was an atheist but his family was Christian).

There are more HD versions up without any subtitles they just don't have as many views because they were uploaded later! That Jjong high note is such a legendary moment. Stranger is such an epic concert song. An Encore makes me instantly tear up, it's a conditioned response now. You might notice that their mics each have a band in their respective colour, Minho gifted these to the members! I love hearing Minho sing too, he has such a warm vocal tone, he sings a bit more often in their Japanese discography and of course in his solos as well. SHINee can all sing well, their tones are so different yet harmonise so satisfyingly, but Jonghyun's voice was something truly extraordinary. I'm so grateful that he shared it with us while he could. Jonghyun most incredible vocal is his high tone. His high notes can still be heard like calmly high tone, not making your ears sound hurt and stress because of the noise. That's a fact. His vocal is truly something awesome. Everyone just can't denial it. I always admire Jonghyun high tone ❤❤❤

I can never listen to Jjong's sustained note in Stranger without nodding to the beat. And An Encore never fails to give me chills, just like when Onew sings opera. Opera isn't my preferred style, but he just looks so regal and sounds so amazing for that performance. Thanks as always for loving our SHINee boys. When I saw your reaction towards Jjong's note, I was like, yeah I know I know. I dont remember how many times I would back and re-watching this performance, and still replaying that part again and again. It wasnt simply powerful and long, but the steadiness in his vocal absolute chef's kiss!

The world longest note is 50 seconds by the singer of A-HA... onew's was 40 seconds ♡

For the stranger song,the note of Jjong is even longer in their concert in Japan!!! Jjong said I stop the note when I feel like I am gonna pass out. And it’s the same for the members during lives they don’t mess around!! Even on a music show they give it all!! They’re not called cdnee for nothing the song live is way better than the cd version. And they are so stable because from the start in 2008 the would go for runs at 5:30 am and sing at the same time in order to get used to be moving and singing you can see that qt an award while perform Everybody Onew is literally gasping for air on the side to get ready for the rest of the song and that’s why they’re all able to pull off stable vocals during a hard choreo ❤ For Onew it’s 40seconds the vid is on KZread and they can go further but they have to take into consideration that they have other performances to do!

You’re partially right about the Chinese! The characters are Kanji, which is originally Chinese but also used in Japan. Kanji is basically traditional chinese characters which aren’t really used in mainland China anymore since they use simplified. The subs might also be for other Chinese areas, such as Taiwan and Hongkong where traditional characters are still used
