Ойындар

It is the year of the Shin Megami Tensei for me y'all! I am loving Shin Megami Tensei thus far, and here is my review of Shin Megami Tensei IV only available on the Nintendo 3DS. After his expect a review of Shin Megami Tensei IV apocalypse and following that Shin Megami Tensei five review! I am loving the series so far~! My hype for Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse is through the roof! I can't stop watching trailers on it haha.
" The Eastern Kingdom of Mikado is a city of the chosen, sitting on high and protected all around by towering walls. Yet its people are at risk from an ongoing demon threat that the player as a newly appointed Samurai are duty-bound to fight against. Throughout the player's journey, they must choose their own path. The choices will affect them, other NPCs, and the overall outcome of the story. Decisions players make throughout the course of the story will have lasting repercussions, as the fate of the world hangs in the balance.
A third-person RPG epic, Shin Megami Tensei IV is the latest addition to the main Shin Megami Tensei series. Developed by the award-winning ATLUS team, Shin Megami Tensei IV features powerful new demons, expansive dungeons, epic story arcs with branching plot lines, game-altering decision making, and more. Built specifically for the Nintendo 3DS system with optimized graphics, 3-D dungeons, voiced dialogue, and StreetPass functionality, Shin Megami Tensei IV is a premium title that should grace every RPG fan's collection.
A decade since the last release, the latest Shin Megami Tensei game introduces new features such as the digital demon lending, brought to life by the Nintendo 3DS StreetPass function. Use the 3DS' game coins to buy the ability of resurrection, allowing players to jump right back into the game without fear that the previous hours of hard work will go to waste. "

The story in this game was way wilder and deeper than SMT V I think. Your friends and enemies got properly fleshed out and the story flipped the tables so hard multiple times, it was an absolute trip.

Near the end of V right now and I'm surprised at how bare bones the story and characters are. I guess it's a testament to how good everything else is that they got away with that. Had a brief dip into Soul Hackers 2 and was already loving the main character and writing in that. Don't know why they couldn't have done the same for SMTV, they had 5 years.

My God SMT V while everything else is really fun, its story is boring af. Almost nothing too interesting happended in half of the game. I mean, SMT IV is crazy in both main story and sub story, so a big disappointment when I played V.

@@PelvicGaming For sure, I love the genre and there's so many great games. Smt is already my favorite series and 4 feels like the perfection of that formula. The setting and story stuff is really great, but the gameplay is what makes it stand out so much to me. I still love the gameplay of all the smt and persona titles, but 4 in particular happens to be me favorite. I think having troubles with stuff like Walter being thrown in your party and casting agi on the minotaur so he's in smirk and wiping me left a big impression lol.

Great review, SMT IV is a masterpiece in the series, on par with fellow pieces of art such as Devil Survivor & Strange Journey. It features a really cool cast, some of the best gameplay and iteration in the series, the press turn system is easily my favorite gameplay system in a JRPG, it incentivizes being aggressive but not to a fault, with the drawback of potentially losing turns upon doing the same thing that'll get either repelled or dodged, instead, utilize inflicting weaknesses and being resistant to their natural attribute for more turns, a super well done system that prioritizes player engagement in the fight, despite being turn based. It also features a fantastic OST, Kozuka went HARD on the OST. Tokyo's theme specifically is the best OST I've heard from SMT so far. Great work all around. Despite the many great things I've seen with the game, something I highly appreciate from this game is the premise of it, specifically speaking, the first boss of the game; Minotaur is ongod the best introduction in SMT, the perfect buildup for him at the start with the game talking about a legendary guardian at the end of Naraku, seeing how incredibly challenging SMT IV begins, you start to imagine how ferocious the boss will be, the introduction to his character was done great, his VA went full ham with his voice, the incredible OST that plays for the first time, giving the player a sense of danger, that this guy is a different breed than the rest, it instantly grabs you ,and to top it all off, SMT IV has the bosses commenting mid-battle, starting from being cocky or menacing to either baffled or scared of the player' skill, with you being given the same thing as well, pick your choices well, and you could get a nice power boost that'll further give you the momentum you're currently getting from the intensity of the fight, its awesome. SMT IV is my favorite in this amazing series, I wished that SMT V at least returned the mid-battle conversations, but alas, it suffered from much more than that.

It took me three tries to really get into this game. I kept getting past Naraku then putting it down because it was so exhausting. A few months ago, I picked up an old playthrough and pressed on, and I'm so glad I did. I adored the setting, atmosphere, and crazy story bits. Everything about the visual and sound design is just lovely. Crafting the perfect demons gets to be addicting and overcoming bosses that decimated you the first time is so satisfying. Love it!! Hope you enjoyed Xenoblade 3 considering how long it is. I'm fifty hours in and only partway through chapter 5 lol

This game’s got a lot to cover, but you did an awesome job with it all!! I went the neutral route and, save for the hassles, is the most fruitful route to go through. I also enjoy the battle system because very fittingly, it constantly tests my hubris as a human to take as many gambles as I please. I may be torn to shreds in a heartbeat because a world of demons isn’t kind. But I may also triumph barely escaping with my life, if I play my cards right. The outcome is not always as absolute as it is with other JRPGs, and because I typically don’t enjoy grinding, this game takes the cake. 💪🏽

Really glad you're enjoying it - SMTIV was my first Megaten and definitely the best one I played (IVA and V are mechanically a bit better but for different reasons the story and characters are worse), it seems like there's a lot for the series to give. Genuinely one of those games that changed my tastes! With Isabeau I agreed with your view of her while playing, but an idea I heard that improves her character a lot is her being a normal person insert. Reacting how someone who isn't a zealot or the main character would to the extreme events in the game, I think she has a lot more going on viewed through that lens.

I'm looking forward to forming my own opinion on both of those. I hear mixed things about both games, and I just hope 4A doesn't let me down. V I'm like meh, whatever, but 4A.... I am holding to a standard! I hear you. However you can be normal with *some* conviction. If she suggested a little of both, too much of one thing is bad, spoke of balance etc rather than the clueless 'idk wat do u think, main character?" I would have enjoyed that more.

It's so great to hear you excited about JRPGs again! Press/Turn really is brilliant in its simplicity. It's so easy to understand and use, and it's great to have a system that the enemy can exploit or be destroyed by just as easily as the player. For me, the Minotaur fight was the most shocking moment in the game. His design is the stuff of nightmares, his double voice and dialogue is creepy, and then the music hits, it's like, "Whoa. I just effed up." Then he starts smirking and things look hopeless. It's great to fight an actual challenge!!! I'm curious if you still have a PS2. I'd definitely gift you Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2. It's a lot more character driven with an actual party, and it turns the system on its head by removing all the demon recruitment and fusion. My favorite in the entire series. Great make-up work! Keep it up! 💄

@@PelvicGaming Strange Journey is an experience, but the original is considered by many to be a better version than Redux. Redux allowed for unlimited apps, where the original only allowed 10 points total. It also added Commander Skills and a sprint. It makes the game MUCH easier. They also redrew all of the art with... questionable results. Gorman's tiny head on an enormous body is the most amusing, as well as Zelenin missing an arm. Embarrassing. The other problem is the added storyline with Alex. It adds nothing to the experience and brings in a terrible element to any science fiction story. I have the DS version and absolutely cherish it. The absolute quality they were able to cram into a DS game is stunning. From the shockingly detailed environments to the moving classical music score, it's far beyond what most people would think was possible on a handheld at the time. I dig the work you've been doing, and really happy that things have been going well! Keep it up!!! 😃👍

I haven't played a ton of mainline entries, but they do seem to reward not choosing any ideology; in 2, neutral seemed like the only correct and satisfying answer, and in Nocturne, the 3 main ideologies have the most half-assed endings that are only satisfying if you truly believe in them. Of course, given the whole demon fusion system, I think it's a series that rewards experimentation, so that's not entirely off-brand. Side note: has this series gotten you hooked on world mythologies yet? As a mythology buff, I used to spend HOURS reading the entries for each of the demons, and they really do their homework; they're typically very accurate. One of the coolest things I've ever had the privilege of doing was writing a 400+ entry demonic compendium for a Shin Megami Tensei fangame, though sadly, the project wound up being abandoned before it was ever released.

I've come to enjoy SMT 3 the more I thought about it's themes and how one of it's strongest elements is minimalism. I don't think I appreciated it enough as I was playing. That said, four is just... it was more my speed. But I still got respect for Nocturne!

I replayed it a few months ago and the combat was annoying to me because it was so hard to avoid, but the voice acting, music, atmosphere and world building were so great. You can really feel the despair of the inhabitants of the underground and the blissful ignorance of Mikado Kingdom. I think SMT4 is really interesting thematically and how it depicts its polar opposites!

I'm glad I didn't check the bonus artwork that came when preordering this as it spoilt the whole beginning of the game haha. I have some issues with IV, but I still had quite a bit of fun when I played it. Not something I'd revisit, I'm pretty meh on its narrative as a whole (although I've grown to appreciate it's world more through its sidequest than the main plot), and there's some gameplay frustrations (boy I hated moving through Tokyo's map!), but a pretty solid game all around, one of the few games on the 3DS I still have positive opinions on. Apocalypse is weird, it has a fair share of gameplay improvements, I cared more for its cast of characters than those here (although I don't think characters were ever SMT main strength, that's what all the other sidegames like Persona, Devil Survivor and DDS are for), but the story was a lot worse, and essentially just revisiting the same places again made it all the less memorable. I still liked it, but not as much. But hey, that's more than what I can say about SMTV.

Very comprehensive review! Great job. I will have to disagree on the art front. I honestly was super disappointed by pretty much all the guest artists. It just didn't mesh at all. Doesn't help that they used art from like 7 different eras. Humanoid angels best angels.

Great review! I really disliked the overworld map, but enjoyed all the improvement 4 had to Nocturne (the latter being one of my favorite games of all time), such as the removal of random encounters, fights being able to continue even if the main character is downed and the search function in the Demon Compendium, among other things. The soundtrack is really great as well. If it wasn't for the overworld map I'd probably rank it on the same level as Nocturne, but overall I enjoyed it quite a bit.

  • @PelvicGaming

The overworld was easily the worst part of the game. I wanted to go more in detail about it but I believe it's a huge reveal in the beginning that I didn't want to spoil.
