I, generally, use a ratcheting, interchangeable regular-sized screwdriver for the initial loosening of screws. Here's a link to the brand I use:

Get some additional, varying sizes Flathead and Phillips bits while you're at it.
The adjustable wrenches I use (instead of hex nut wrenches) are Husky, but these (with the red insert) work very well... 6-inch will be used the most:

Can you easily find a new housing? And,is it worth it cost wise?

Hey Steve! Thanks for watching! Yes..... you have to take ALL the extraneous pieces off the old housing to put on the new housing. This customer actually needed two new housings. I think they were around $30/$40 per.
Ok , you found an issue, but was it the cause of the drag failing to release? I'm beating my head against the wall, trying to diagnose the same issue. Recently replaced the pinion bearing, so I was thinking maybe pinion A was fetching up on that bearing's inner race, but after honing down that pinion, it's smooth and no hang ups. 😖 my problem persists.

Yes I sure did. It seems to be fetching up somewhere. When I back off the drag all the way, the handle continues to turn as the spool turns. A good wrap on the drag knob knocks things into place. Could it be the drag plate spring getting weak?
