    You are the Bob Ross of reel videos. Thank you for your patience with me and the back and forth emails trying to help me fix this reel. I'm so happy I got to see you work on it. Very special reel to me because it was my dad's reel. Thanks again Dennis!

    Thank you for pointing out one of my bigger grievances with shimano. Too many unnecessary parts. They are designed to need to be professionally serviced. There’s also a degree of “planned obsolescence” I used only Penn reels during my 24 years as an offshore charter captain. When I purchased my boat I got several shimano reels with the boat. My local tackle shop guy was a Penn representative and set me up with the 2nd & 3rd generation Spinfisher reels. I never looked back. Thank you for covering the many manufacturers of fishing equipment. Your videos have saved me a lot of trouble with your detailed information.

    I have had the stradic for about 20 years. Have serviced it many times. I have not used it much in the last few years as its paired with a St. Croix rod that I only use occasionally. I have an older version but the gearing and other internals are the same. Its been awhile since I opened it but I dont recall that many different size screws. I enjoyed watching you do this one. Thanx

    This reel would drive me nuts if I had it. I’d definitely put it in the mail to you! I guess there’s a reason these reels cost so much. Enjoyed the video!

    Always enjoy your videos and appreciate the time you take on researching the history and background of fishing reels. I got a good laugh when you get emphasizing the ludicrous "engineering" of Shimano reels in the form of things like different screw heads as well as how screws are actually hidden and can't be found until you remove another piece. Oh, and don't get me on that set screw; I think watch repair folks would find that interesting to see in a fishing reel. Finally, just a couple of comments or observations that might help. That rubber ring that you often refer to as having to do with anti-vibration is actually an anti-trip mechanism where the post that comes out under the rotor when the bail is flipped open fits into one of the grooves in the ring. Also, I believe I saw a shim stuck to the paper towel that you were using to clean the pinion; Shimano - and other reel makers these days - is famous for using these and they are easily missed. Finally, for years I always wondered about the dust or lint that gathered on top of the drag stack on my Shimano light tackle reels - until I took one apart and discovered the felt drag washers, which dry out and deposit that "fuzz" if you don't oil the washers, as you correctly point out and I had failed to do. Hope your fishing season is a great one and keep up the good work.

    Nice breakdown on the Stradic, Dennis. As for the line lay, it’s not the worst I have seen. The reel is under spooled. Sometimes with these reels, they need to be fully spooled with braid for the line to lay evenly. They also cast lot better with a full spool of line. I would back the reel with some mono, and then put the remainder of braid on top to fill. I’ll bet the problem will be gone.

    Great info and how too as always. I stopped being a Shimano fan starting with this reel.Overly complicated,many different fasteners and just all around cheap feel too them…ok I’m done 😢😂

    Thanks for sharing. Sometimes it is death by mosquito bites - Just a bunch of refinements that have limited value and complicate the design of a reel. I laugh when I see reels where the selling point is 15 ball bearings and the cost is $29. It's not about that at all. - Dennis

    Dennis, question on shimano anti reverse. My older, well used stradics sometimes won't stop on anti reverse. Always intermittent at worst possible time. Any tune up suggestions? I've tried to disassemble them completely. What a chore! Must be a better way. Love the video's. Who'd ever thought you'd be a movie star working on little machines like reels? Love it. Greg

    If you have the instant anti-reverse set up, then it is likely that the A/R clutch and the collar that it rides on are dirty or full of oil or grease. They need to be clean and to run dry. You can remove both after removing the rotor and clean them up. That should fix your problems - Dennis

    Awesome channel! I love your content. Maybe you can help me out. I need to find some brake collars for the old Shimano Bantam 100. A couple sets would be great. either the blue or the larger black collars, both if possible. I have 2 of my granddad's old reels that are missing the brake collars. I really want to get them running right again so I can use them. Thanks for any help you can offer. Also, one of the bantam 100's could use a new gear set, but I will be surprised to find a new set for it.

    I'm sorry, but I am not a parts distributor or reseller and do not have what you need. Try. Southwesternparts.com or replacementparts.com you can a make the brakes with a coffee stirrer or tube insert for a spray can as a bush fix, by cutting small pieces from them to fit your reel - Dennis

    Thanks for your respond. I replaced the anti reverse on my ci4 and it’s working again. The real I’m working on is the original 2016 model. Seems like the bail wire is sticking. Do I need to replace the bail wire assembly?

  • @2ndChanceTackle

    @2ndChanceTackle

    Жыл бұрын

    Maybe. Sometimes it can be a bent wire or dirt in the seems of the bail arms. Spray both joints with a penetrating oil to see if that helps first. That can loosen or flush out the dirt. If the wire is bent, watch this video in the link kzread.info/dash/bejne/mIB8o5KuhLuuerQ.html. If these techniques do not solve the problem, it may be a bail spring or trip mechanism that is bad. - Dennis

    Sir, is there such a thing as over greasing? My reel sticks a lot after I put shimano grease on inside the reel?

  • @2ndChanceTackle

    @2ndChanceTackle

    5 ай бұрын

    Yes - there is such a thing, but a little extra would not hurt the rel. I would check to make sure you reassembled everything correctly. The sticking could be mechanical and not grease related Dennis
