This is the position where the foot meet the pin of mechanism which closes line guide to fishing position. You can remove this foot but auto close will not be working.

have never experienced this with any other reel though? Shimano or any other brand. are you saying that all reels have this?

@@adfdangling1468 yes. All the models have this point. Just specific to the person it may be uncomfortable regarding to the model of reel. In my case daiwa have several models I hate to use by the same reason

I have 2 of the stradic 2500fb. 1 did had this issue too. I don't know if it came from Shimano like this or what, but if you really wanna fix this, you'll have to remove the rotor and open the reel. There is 2 spot for the bail trip plastic piece (1 at the handle and 2nd at front position). Remove that bail trip piece and put it in the which ever new position and it should work like your other reels. Again there is 2 slot for the bail piece. Just switch it to the opposite side of your current position. I'm guessing Shimano does this because some people use their left hand to hold the reel and and the bail open position will change slightly. You'll thank me later on.

That’s normal; you will find this on pretty much all spinning reels. It is that place where the reel trips the bail. So, when you are trying to set the bail, the reel is tripping it, so of course it won’t engage.

I have the same issue with my Ci4+ 4000. Did you ever find out what was preventing the bail from locking?

No I just bugged Shimano until they replaced it

My 3000 stradic ci4 has prematurely closed on my many times ive lost to many baits so now im selling to buy a daiwa saltist 3000 better as ive heard slightly more line capacity. The ci4 has more drag but i dont care about that if i xant cast car enough to reach those big fish that the drag would be useful for
