THE REEL TEST I usually only spool them halfway. On any reel. I did over fill my curado and I had a bad time casting it....but idk if that was just me

Got my Curado DC today. Spooled it up with 10lb mono and tried a variety of lures and weights. Adjusted the spool tension as per Shimano and used the #2 setting. Had a few overruns but nothing major and was getting great distance. Incrementally tightened the spool tension knob and this took care of most of the tangles with little loss of distance. I believe the key to this reel, as others have suggested, is to leave about 1/8” from the edge of the spool and not go almost all the way as Shimano states in the owners manual. After doing this I repeated all my casts with the same lures and had no feathering during mid-cast like I was getting before.

I love my Curardo DC. I predominately use 20kg braid and 7.5kg mono so it lives in setting "2" most of the time. If its blowing a gale I use setting "4." I chuck lures from 15g to 50g grams no problem and if im on a narrow water (river for example) ive "lobbed" lures up to the Rapala Peto which is 80g. For me its great as I came to a baitcasting setup pretty late, as they aren't so popular this side of the pond, though their use is growing fast. Used it here in UK, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Spain, Serbia and Macedonia. Some of the best money ive ever spent (bearing in mind its a $302 real over here) It help an average angler like me catch a boatful of fish. Mainly Pike but also a 121lb Wels Catfish that took my lure on River Ebro. Yep, love it.

I have cast both, in real world / atlantic, river/ , K is more hassle free to me.

@@pololuvv8223 Currado K is good it’s unreal. Sold my currado DC. Typically use my SLX or scorpion but dude the Currado K launch’s so far it’s straight butter.

I got to play with one rigged on a 7ft mh mod fast rod with 14-16lb mono on it and and was able to skip it on the concrete as hard as I could with a 1/2oz rubber plug without thumbing it. And into the wind atleast 50 yards. But didn't have to try very hard to get it to flair up / over run. I think it's l e of those reels that needs to be adjusted with every different line and lure on it. But it's the first dc I've held and threw so I liked it. I don't have any shimanos at this point but have decided on the curado k or dc since they finally stepped up the curado to match the price. Great videos man!

Nick Cavazos I agree. Has been the same experience with my scorpion. I also was told to take a few warm up casts where I only throw it at about a quarter of what I normally would to let the motor get used to the bait I am throwing

I honestly LOVE your reviews and I hope you great success on this channel. I stick by you 100%. I like your honesty on your reel test. I agree with you. My scorpion DC has a louder sound. Seems like it cast further and personally if I got a curado I would just get the curado K. Since I already have the matanium DC. Scorpion DC and Calcutta

This is definitely yhe best and least biassed test on the youtube , really appreciate the time you spent on this test.I was a bit suspicous on the reviews and now see it is not that thumb free at all as they advertise.Im gonna stick with kastking speed demon a while..Since there is relative much difference on price /performance ratio..is there any chance , can you make a review of kastking speed demon pro reel and compare it to DC ?

I checked out the limited review videos from non sponsored channels and there was 1 where the guy was casting with no thumb catching barramundi. He had like 3 vids before he finally showed that he had the spool tension to a slow drop(as I suspected) on his latest video. Nobody is showing us their brake and spool tension settings so its confusing as to whats really going on. Ill do Kastking reviews if they send me some reels... which i doubt will happen as they have already gotten big and most companies dont like the nature of my testing where I show pretty much everything.

awesome video. even with a 1/4 ounce lure still goes far. this testing video really helps too btw compared to the METANIUM DC cast tests, the settings on the curados far more 'general' but still i guess some cant complain with the help of the dc but i guess it just comes with practice non stop. still casts out a long way though

This video did A perfect job with the actual noise you hear. Others put mics right there making it seem order on video than it really is. It's not super loud you have to almost be looking for that metallic zing.

I wish there was an easy way to tell if I'm actually getting the use of the DC part of this reel. Loosening and tightening and loosening the spool tension is exactly what I was doing with my non DC reels. How do I know I'm getting the advantage of the digital chip? I have about 100 yards of 30# Braid on it.

I know with my scorpion dc, i usually do 2-3 quarter effort casts to let the dc to get used to the weight of the lure weight then I don’t have too many problems after that as far as overruns

When will the field test video be uploaded? I NEED to see the comparisson. Did you already record It?

The external dial number 2 is for mono/braid while external dial number 3 is for flouro if I'm not wrong

good job on the video. Would of loved to see you cast into 10-15mph winds. The older DC I used didn't really give me much more distance but it did help casting into the wind to minimize over runs. The subtle whining does not bother me, what bothers me is the plastic squeak on the curado K thumbar... hope the DC is a slightly different. Still on the fence with this one after your video.

A little bit off track here but do you know how many yards or meter of .20mm braid you can get on a metanium dc reel please as I can not find this info on line anywhere. Cheers Nick.

Are you saying that the curado dc reel settings should be from 1 be the lowest control to 4 being the most control? That's why you think the 2 and 3 settings are backward?

Did you adjust the tension knob for the lure weight so it falls slowly or just so there's no play like the instructions say? I adjusted it so the spool has no play and it perform pretty good but I still got minor backlashes from time to time and did thumb my casts. I know it's cool with videos showing people not thumbing but I think people should know you still need to thumb this reel. It just makes life easier and when it does backlash it's much more minimal.

Idk why you were having so many backlashes, tested mine today and I threw on all settings, never had a backlash, just some fluff at the start or middle of my cast on dial setting “1”. Maybe your reel was over lubed?

I honestly would ask you to try another Curado DC reel. Mine whines much louder as well as no overruns. My performance didn't match yours at all so it's really interesting. I might be running the tensioner heavier? I don't know. I bring it down until the spool doesn't move left to right at all, then I might go even a quarter to half turn more. I'm always on setting 2, but then again I'm also running braid which acts differently coming off the spool when compared to Mono. I'm sure my casts are shorter though so I guess that's the trade-off.

someone can tell me what is the proper setting for the internal brake of Curado K . Thanks

Hey man I have had the DC for over a week now. It’s the spool tension I know it says to eliminate side to side play. But u really really have to eliminate it. I know it says too tight will with hold breaks abilities but it still bombs. U need just a touch more on tension knob and reel will blow your mind

Its crap with light lures. Heavy spool kills it. The normal k version casts at least 20% further with light lures.

Can u please do a video of the revo stx generation 4 I have so much issues with the casting and getting backlash ...I used it only twice and I’m haveing a heDache on it ..kind of regret getting it

I'm using fluro for weightless flukes jerk baits and cranks and mine doesnt back lass on that setting

I have never heard of the settings on the left side of a right hand reel like in the case of the DC they are 1-4 and certain numbers are designated for a specific type of line??? You just adjust any reel to the line and lure weight you are going to throw. Both with mono and fluorocarbon lines some are soft and cast well some are stiffer and curl more. It all depends on what you are using and going to throw as to how exactly you set up both knobs on your reel.

If the number 2 setting is for braid mono as you mentioned, wouldn't make sense that it casts the mon better on 2 than 3?

I'm only suggesting that it is not a scale of 1 to 4 based on it being tighter as the numbers go up. Perhaps each number is simply computer programmed for the types of line. I have been waiting for this video and you are the only one who has shown a backlash and I appreciate that. You got one on setting 4 and others claim it can be casted into a wall and not backlash. Could you please test this for me? Thanks for the videos, they have helped a great deal.

This curado DC is for sure lower end DC reel. Other DC reels have MONO, BRAID, FLURO inside reel and has external dial settings too.

I took mine out for the first time yesterday. The cast control setup was really fussy. Following the directions and removing side-to-side play left me with overruns unless I was in mode 4. Tightening up enough so I could cast without major overruns in mode 1 I tested the casting distance against my old Favorite a Gen2 Revo SX that is my jerkbait setup. Both rods had 10# flouro and the exact same 4" XPS jerkbait. The Revo beat it by 15 feet. In the end I like the DC for close to medium use like weighless worms or jigs, but for casting distance on striper boils it's not my go-to.

A lot depends on the quality of the cast (better release of the bait from the rod) whether the spool will overrun or not. The faster the bait is moving out of the reel will help prevent overrun.

Will never understand how people cast right and reel right

With my scorpion dc it over runs but mid cast it fixes its self almost instantly and I don’t have to thumb the spool

I think the problem with casting the 1/4 ounce lure has more to do with the rod's stiffness (MH) rather than anything to do with the reel.

Lol yeah, I was pretty disappointed in the Antares DC! pissed me off that I spent that kind of money and only got average casting! Its been sitting on the shelf ever since. Thats why I do these on the water impressions, alot of times you guys see the first time I cast a reel and how I dial in a reel with all the backlashes and overruns involved figuring the reel out. Including what I have to say about it right on the spot.

THE REEL TEST Thats true. I follow your channel because you buy your reels. It gets quite hard to distinct between Ads/Promotion and real reviews because not all KZreadr say clearly that they are sponsored. Lets hope for the Curado DC that your spool was too full or the tension knob too loose. When you make the comparison between the Curado/Scorpion and Metanium DC can you please take a look at how they perform when cast thumbfree?

I think the svs brakes are just to good and can match the dc reels besides a few of the dc models in certain situations. But that is just my theory. Good vid tho

So would you take this over the scorpion which is the next reasonably priced dc reel?

The new Excense DC is quite silent as well. I prefer like that. The older one was horrible. Loud and I had the brake system fail pretty early. And know of others that had the same problem. Changing subject, what snap do you use? I`ve used fastach from Mustad and lost some nice lures. I will still use it for soft plastics. But no way for hard baits. So, for hard baits I`m using Owner Hyper Welded size 0. Doing good, but I can`t find where to buy in a decent price and the smaller sizes. Yes, in Japan it`s a lot cheaper and they have the size 00 and 000. But the websites won`t ship to US. sad

as far as the snap, its just a cheap eagle claw brand. It has a swivel attached so no line twist issues and they come in various sizes

The curado dc sounds like a the older metanium mg dc it has four brake sittings too. They sound similar I have and older metanium dc

The lower number is not for less breaking, it is an arbitrary number in relation to a line type.

@@THEREELTEST Well in this case he was correct. Currado Dc doesn’t have feature like the scorpion. Like the SLX 1-4 is line type. Nice video though I still prefer the currado K. DC’s are good but definitely overhyped if u know how to through a baitcaster.

Try doing a Magnetic braking Vs Centrifigal braking video. Light lures (1/4 oz) and heavy lures (1/2 oz). This will sort o0ut some of the reels.

I think the reason why it's quieter could be because of the plastic cover over the dc unit. But I'm not sure as I've never owned a dc reel. Also for the casting part have you tried doing a normal cast instead of trying to chug the whole set up across the lake

I know the DC song is programmable. Shimano can make it silent as with the original Scorpion DC. Most of the casting I did in the video was normal casting lol. Ill put about 90% casting into the field test this weekend

Brah! Just watched a video on a guy who completely disassemble a Shimano DC reel and their was no electronics or DC or circuit of any kind. I pretty much saw all plastic parts! It all depends on the total weight. I see it casting weightless 5 inch senkos really well. I have a video coming up where it battles the Curado K. The spool weight between the 2 actually shrinks to almost nothing when filled with line. I had the Aldebaran 30MGL out today fishing ned rigs on the 1/15 oz head and with a rod that didnt load up that weight very well, but the 30MGL fired out the ned rig like a damn missile! lol. Casted half the line off with 8lb flouro. I would get the 50MGL because the line capacity of the 30 is not up for casting lures over 3/8.

THE REEL TEST im am planning to use weight less yum dingers,wacky rigs and 1/15 - 1/10 oz with a trd ned rig.... Now with what you just said..i was un aware that there was a 30/50 mgl..i thought the (new) alde mgl was the jdm version of the 30.. to many reels🤣 so my concern is clearing my spool, i plan on putting #20 braid on it... do you think if i went with the alde that Tackle warehouse sell with #20 braid on it throwing a 1/10 or even to a 3/16 rig would would have any issues with casting/ clearing my line?

I think the 50MGL at TW will be perfect. I may pick one up in the future for the extra line capacity for jerkbaits

i havent seen any other videos where they adjusted the tension by spool wiggle..that seems janky to me..maybe adjust by lure weight/droppage

Fluro and mono come off the spool differently. That's why it overran in 3 and not 2. 3 is for fluro as you said, and 2 is for mono. The mono likes to "jump" off the spool instead of "peel" off. So does fluro but not as much. The spool is sped up to compensate for it in setting 2.

good theory, but watch my Met DC and Scorpion DC on the water videos closely. I use the same line and go through all the different line modes, zero issues in Flourocarbon mode unless I went to the absolute lowest setting.

Dude, that’s not what it’s about. I’m the same way and will probably never own a dc reel but some guys just like gizmos. They like the idea of a high tech reel that determines your spool’s speed on a millisecond basis. They like the whirring, old school modem sound. They like the “set and forget” nature of it. It’s not my thing but I can understand it and I really don’t think it comes down to laziness...I’ll bet you anything that 95% of the guys who pick this reel up know full well how to set a reel properly.

manifestgtr correct. I'll buy it for my perchfishing not because I can't adjust a reel (I have a perfectly adjusted Curado 201 I Hg) but because the curado dc cast much better in windy conditions. It really is better when it comes to control and castlength when it's windy. You come to the place you want to cast to. I live by the baltic sea and here it blows pretty bad winds fairly often. There are plenty of perch here though and I like to use both spinning reels and baitcasters, therefor the dc is perfect for me!

Have you ever try casting your k series against the wind? Lol I know you too afraid to do so because you gonna backlash. The DC cast against wind is nothing. Drop reel in water still not alter performance. The k series when drop in water will affect its braking performance we know old school bragging for not being lazy but it is not about being lazy or not. It is about being smart and being efficient.

What kind of line are u using?

Could you give me advice? Wich one your opinion cast longer distance with 1/4 jig lure - Curado DC or Metanium MGL? Never had any DC so i dont want to fail while ordering...

@@THEREELTEST im fishing in poland so 90% of anglers never used a baitcaster. I wanted a dc reel so bad but i can get only one. Metanium is 240 usd but not jdm and new curado dc is 290 usd. It will fit with custom batson rx7 1/2 oz rod. Baits are small jerks, soft frogs, and rippers on small jig hooks. With metanium i can forget about skipping :O Youre sure i should go for metanium? I mean if i never used any dc reel could a curado dc disappoint me?

@@THEREELTEST Resellers scorpion dc (new) is 370 usd in poland because there is at least 20% tax. Its almost impossible to pass the taxes from shipping. US versions are available by shimano europe. Curado, metanium ect keep normal pricing. Japan are more expensive. So metanium MGL is 240 usd promo, curado DC 290 usd and scorpion dc is almost 370... Im still thinking do i lose much if i wont pick a dc and take metanium :/

BTW ... who ever is interested basspro shop already has them for sale at the counter (I was there today and there it was) ...as for myself I’ll save up a little more and get the jdm scorpion instead ...

It's not suit to test with Fluolene type line but P.E. ! I'm think that the Fluolene type line suit to sea fishing .

Scorpion dc obviously bc its more expensive

pretty happy with my scorpion DC. cant lie, i have been curious about the curado DC, but it was pretty apparent from all the hype videos, that there was a bit of fuckery going on. i will be in the market for another reel soon, and most likely ill be getting a 2nd scorpion. tried the metanium DC, and i didnt feel it was a significant enough improvement over the scorpion to warrant the extra $200 or so. dont understand why shimano didnt just put on the DC I-5 or just sell the scorpion in the US instead.the curado brakes just seem to be a super dumbed down version of its base level DC brakes. but then again, shimano is one of those goofy companies with its hand in thousands of different areas and getting into the mind of their R&D would drive most people to rather eat glass.

as in too expensive? to be fair, i dont live in the states, so im not up on what people consider to be expensive for a reel. here in japan, its not unheard of to see people drop $500+ on just a rod and another wad on the reel. seen Artex rods going for $700+ over here, and they are never in stock, so someone is buying them haha... $250 is preety comparable to other high(ish) end reels in the states. hell, my lews was $279 when i bought it a few years ago.

yeah man, people here in the states are cheap when it comes to fishing tackle. the $100 reels are the best sellers. People here think the $350 Bantam MGL is a high end Shimano lol.. its a mid range Shimano actually.

Timothy Walker I’m sad he didn’t give a touch more on spool tension. I have this reel and found that once u eliminate side to side play just turn a bit more and it will bomb even further and perform as expected

C-PAT 21 that’s what most of the current reviews have said. Maybe quality control isn’t as good as maybe it should be? Guess I need to make sure I buy it from a place with a really good return policy just in case. I want a good reel I can let the wife and kids use without worrying about bad overruns

THE REEL TEST still wondering why your results are different than others. Could be that they had the knob a bit tighter like you suggested. But the fact that yours is quieter than others makes me scratch my head as that noise is the brake system engaging. Guess I’ll have to buy one and see, it’s only money, right.

I try to make my videos as transparent as possible in the fact that you see what my spool tension and brake settings are. I rarely see people show brake settings much less the spool tension setting.

Brake 4 is no back lash, 3 is Fluorocarbon, 2 is braid and mono and 1 is far cast and son it cast

may i know what lines you are using ? and the poundage?

I think the DC works better with lures that are 3/8 oz and heavier better than lighter ones. I have the the DC the K and the Daiwa Elite and have tested them all out with various baits.

You think that the tatula sv tws is better than the shimano crurado dc in your opinion?

alex march different beast I own both and have gotten my tatula sv supertune with zpi bearings and it’s an animal. My DC performs a lot better then his is I like the dc more for ease of use but feel the sv so far has done me better on water bc I am used to fishing a normal baitcaster like that. Dc further casting reel... sv has breaks up to par with DC

Honestly neither reel really impresses me(since I have so many high performing reels already) but I need more time with the Curado DC. maybe ill fish them side by side one day

Ultimately the DC will cast farther but other than that they are the same in smoothness and power. So its up to you if its worth it.

Didn't read the manual eh. I havn't had the problems you have had in15 mins in 3 days of use with my curado dc and i have only had it for a week. looks like you did this on the fly.

Sounds like most people are more concerned with sound rather than functionality. Talked to someone on the lake with the curado dc and the first thing he said was listen to this thing lol then he said it still will backlash though..

The chip does not sound like it’s working right

This is the ONLY review I’ve seen where the casts have consistently nested. User error? There doesn’t seem to be too much line on the reel. I wonder how often you get backlash on your everyday reels?

This is the ONLY review where you see how the reel is setup, brake setting, spool tension, etc. And the only one where braid isnt being used.

What is "fluffing"?

Try throwing something heavier like a 7/8 or 5/8 oz weight. The older DC casted better with heavier weights. I have a 2003 conquest DC that cast at least 30 yards or more on every cast but on 5/8 oz and up to an 1OZ with no bird nest.

The older metanium mg dc has I dc4 braking system too

That would be great if you did! I have a Metanium DC, Calais DC and a Conquest TE (round) DC. The Old and heavy Calais still amazes me!! I also love this thing called a Abu LX - good for 1/16 oz. Mr. Reel Test keep up the great work!!

more bearings, better DC system, lighter spool. The only thing better on the Curado DC is the micro gears and more comfortable knobs, and maybe longer handle.
