    Good point. I'd also say it's mainly done to comprehend the sword, rather than just understand it.

    I had previously attached a meaning to shihan that had to do with being a student of O-Sensei, since almost all of his students are now shihan. But now I have realized that it is a title- independent of belt rankings- that are bestowed upon someone who the Doshu believes has a vast understanding of aikido.

    For those who criticizes Aikido as something fake...essentially Aikido is not a martial art that fights people. So we usually don't punch or kick or chop up a person. The various movements, locks and throws are meant to be practiced, masters into 2nd nature and in the event of an attack or attacks, the mind and body sub-consciously will know and decide which throw or lock to disarm or to neutralize the attacks with just a single throw/move.

    As for C. Tissier, he's my sensei, he's devoted his life for Aikido and he deserves some respect for that. You don't like what you see? Go watch something else. I respect Morihiro Saito, as I find him one of the big geniuses of Aikido (along with S. Yamaguchi and K. Tohei), but stepping out to do your own thing outside Aikikai is somehow awkward.

    In practice, the person receiving the locks and throws need to also learn how to safely receive the throws/moves so as to prevent injuries.

    Aikido is based off of the sword. Both in the physical and mental. As well as energetically if you want to get into that. But everything is based off of the sword mind. The techniques in aikido shouldn't hurt much, at all really in the hands of a shihan, because with the sword mentality, you don't care if the techniques hurt. You're just getting the guy into a weak position (like the ground) so you could kill him. That's just one example, but that's why i'd say it's about understanding the sword

    i think u r right about tissier but u should check this on youtube rinjiro shirata aikiken and u will know that he was one of the earliest student of o sensei and he did learn aikiken

  • @kokorosan61
    @kokorosan6111 жыл бұрын

    Shirata is a Aikikai Sensei, so he followed the Doshu style at Tokyo. O'Sensei taught weapons ONLY in Iwama in his private dojo early in the morning. Moreover, when we see the demonstrations of this Sensei and of Mr Tissier, it's obviously kenjutsu, NOT Aikiken. For exemple, the low gard with the ken on the right side is typically kenjutsu and not Aikiken. Aikiken is bokken integrated into Aikido and it's completely different in shape and in heart !

    And it's a good thing to say. But wouldn't you say it's also about deciphering, interpreting, or even fathoming the sword?

  • @manos3003

    Get your facts straight. He did study with Saotome Sensei in Hombu who has integrated a curriculum of weapons, besides studying Kashima Shin Ryu Kenjutsu.

    If you're going to practice a martial-art that's based on sword-techniques it's probably a good idea to learn how to use a sword.

    Effectively, Shirata Sensei was one of the first students of O'Sensei, Aikido was then still Aiki-budo buthe left before the reaintegration of weapons by O'Sensei in the second part of his life and it's known that Morihei Ueshiba Sensei was working only for himself and didn't teach like we understand it today in West. Morihiro Saito was the only one who was here (every day in Iwama) to see the evolution of Aikido to it outcome. By looking video, it's obvious...

    There is no such thing as Aikiken or Aikijo. A set of kata have been named as such (either by Saito sensei, Tohei sensei, Nishio sensei), which only exist for pedagogic purposes. The reason why it was never introduced within Aikikai Hombu is simple: The principles which are taught through weapons are already embedded within Aikido itself. To my view, one has to practice weapons anyway, for better understanding. Others do Kenjutsu, others Kendo, others Iaido etc.

    You can think what you want... But O Sensei has ALWAYS integrated weapons into his teaching at Iwama at the sunrise, too early for the people living at Tokyo... So the knowing of weapons of Aikido is not part of the Aikikai teaching because it is hard and doesn't correspond to a mass teaching. For myself, I prefer follow a Sensei who has learned all the aspects of the practice. And it is what I do. Good training.

    Don't confuse kenjutsu and AIKIKEN. What Mr Tissier do is NOT AIKIKEN.Aikiken is specific to Aikido, created by the founder and not transmitted out of private Iwama dojo. So... The difference is obvious !

  • @kokorosan61
    @kokorosan6111 жыл бұрын

    Very easy, everybody knows that only Morihiro SAITO Sensei has followed the teaching of O'Sensei for Aiki weapons (aikiken, aikijo) at IWAMA. The founder made only weapons at the sunrise, so a very few persons followed this teaching. That the reason why at Aikikai they don't make Aiki weapons.... because they simply don't know them !

  • @kokorosan61
    @kokorosan6111 жыл бұрын

    Most of Aikido teachers (like Mr Tissier) talk about weapons, out of Aikido. Indeed, you can practice these activities for what they are but with a real teacher... Who would take a Judo master for learning Karatedo :-/ Aikiken, Aikido are certainely not restricted to pedagogy ! In fact, they are the heart of Aikido, closely intertwined with taijutsu and therefore can not be dissociated. This argument is that those who have an incomplete knowing of Aikido of the founder. Sorry. :-/

  • @kokorosan61

    M. Tissier shouldn't show ken movements because he's ridiculous. It absolutely NOT Aikiken but kenjutsu and it has nothing to do into an Aikido demonstration or should be presented as such, separately. Furthermore, his tori should make a karatedo seminar to learn how to make a foot or a fist hit...
