The 3 Things You Can Do to Get Better at Aikido!

Aikido is a very difficult art to master, and I have 3 suggestions that might help you get better at it.
I've been doing Aikido for almost 30 years. From 1991 - 1997 I lived in Japan and trained Aikido under some of the greatest masters of all time.
I teach Aikido in Houston and also I teach Aikido in Katy. It's a way of life for me and I love it. It helps that I've been doing Martial Arts since I was 5 years old!
While living in Japan, I trained just about every day. I was a member of three Aikido dojo's. I trained at the World Headquarters, The Aikikai Honbu Dojo. I also trained at the Sophia University Aikido Club and at Suginami Aikido club. I enjoyed learning Aikido from so many different masters. Although the Sophia University club only had one instructor, Wakabayashi Sensei and the Suginami Aikido Club only had one instructor, Kato, Hiroshii Sensei, the Aikikai World Headquarters had a different instructor every day!

Thank you Erik! Took my first class today, as a way to be out of my depth, put aside the ego, gain space in a new community and find a more fluid Peaceful way to move through the world. My athleticism and life's passion has been in rock climbing for 15+ years and prior to that I gave everything for most of my life to the art of weapons and strategy in battle and competition settings in a LARP called Amtgard. This does provide a great base of body awareness but the flow of contact with another human using Aikido is not intuitive and I feel so out of my comfort zone. Thus, I've found a practice needing my full attention to learn new words, practices and how to interact with others and my body. Beautiful. Likely, in it for the long game after one session, though I'm grateful to find your channel to push aside the doubt and keep moving forward.

I've been rock climbing for 10 years now, and my best climbing sessions are when I get out of my comfort zone! I hope you enjoy your journey!

Love the advice in this video! Cultivate an open mind, practice the basics for a strong foundation, and meet the challenge of learning with gratitude and dedication. I got to practice all these skills training in Aikido with Erik and it made a huge and lasting positive impact.

You should try to extend your arms fully on pull-ups to work on your full range of motion :D

Yea, I used to to do them like that, but started getting tennis elbow, so I don't fully extend to prevent that...
