Shifting to One Arm Handstand Thoughts and Progression

Talking about how to shift from two arms to an assisted one arm handstand. This a necessary step in learning how to balance on one arm, and it's one where people would benefit from being more aware of the subtleties in the technique.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

I like the idea of gauging the weight on each arm in terms of percentages. That puts things in perspective for me...just reached the fingertips stage myself

Thank you! I just started practicing balance with my weight shifted to one hand, while keeping my other hand down for now. Appreciate you sharing your guidance.

How does the tuck compare to straddle for OAHS difficulty?

Should the elavtion be maximal though the shoulders or only close near 100% like 90-95% with slight control bending straightening through the elbows in terms of not losing balance? It is because i heard some handbalancing coaches say not to extend elevate 100% maximally Similar to standing on one leg with bending straightening that leg. Just trying to get the body understanding. I know that the 3 points of adjustments are first the hands wrists second the elbow bending straigthening third the shoulder.

you're going to have to rephrase your question, I'm not really sure what you're trying to ask me. If you are new to OAH, better to push more than you think you have to. When you get some more experience, you can adjust the position a bit for more comfort

Is the oppesite arms also used to controlling rotation not just the hips but also the elbow bend of the non weight bearing arm. I read some articles saying it is used in controlling resisting the rotation of the weight bearing arm shoulder

not sure what you're trying to say. Yes, the free arm can be used to control rotation

Is it normal to sift or lean more to a side than the other? Is it some kind of imbalance?

@Bodie Davis I think it's lat tightness. One lat more tight than the other.

I feel like the handstand on rings is significantly harder since the lack of stability makes it so much more tricky to create balance. With the one arm at least you have a solid surface

it's pretty complicated. Part of the answer is just life. I got a lot going on with running a business and trying to potentially launch several other careers. I like to train a wide variety of disciplines and handstands are very time-consuming. I'm also not really doing circus work anymore so that gives me less reason to dedicate a lot of time to handstands presently. The other part is injuries and other issues. I was dealing with some neurological issues on my left hand which left me unable to practice handstands for pretty much all of 2020. I had to do some soul searching, playing the thought experiment of "if handstands are what I do, what if this injury is so bad that I will never be able to do handstands again." I love hand balancing but I don't want it to be the thing that defines me. So I've done some rehab. made improvements with the hand, but still not at the point that I can train very high volume. I've lost skill and strength but gained a lot of perspective. Still trying to figure things out. Hope this answers your question
