Nay, you are being fed lies by psuedoscience and childish fantasy news outlets such as the history channel. Fact is, women almost never fought unless it came down to desperate circumstances. I can literally refute any of the lies he brought up with the facts of circumstances and reality.

Valkyries: "Valhalla: our reward for dying in battle. But what of those who die elsewhere? The Valkyries - a warrior order who have made a deal with the gods. Each one can earn glory for our fallen dead. In time, they can win a place for the deserving. But they alone decide for whom they fight. Masters of the spear and the shield, scouts, trackers, and perhaps your only hope for salvation."

The modern consensus seems to be that Valhalla and Folkvangr were alternative after lives for people who weren't able to be brought home to be buried with their families. For Vikingr it was important because they were the "Good" after lives available to them if they died. Proximal thinking at least at some point was very important for the after life. If you died at sea you went to Ran's hall for example. Its part of why bogging was such an immense punishment. "You will be forgotten and alone for all eternity." kind of a deal. The general norm seems to have been to be buried at home with your family members. Kings got elaborate ship graves but for most people thats how you were buried. But transporting remains a few miles to home.... not hard. Transporting them by ship for several weeks... that's a problem. So when the Nordic peoples started venturing out Valhalla and Folkvangr became more prominent. "If you die here, we will take care of your corpse, but we cant bring it home." So your afterlife options become wandering Niflheim alone... or hoping for Valhalla or Folkvangr, or for another god to decide to bring you to their hall. (Thor for example we know had a hall where mortal souls were welcomed.) This was probably a big reason for conversion in now local Nordic populations in Britain and Ireland, and France. "So if I follow your god, then as long as I do these things I have a joyful afterlife? No matter where I die?" From a mode modernist perspective, the idea that our afterlives are proximal is... silly. Souls are, if they exist at all, intangibles. Apart of some level of reality we can neither see, hear, smell or touch. Trying to apply real world physics to the spiritual is... misguided.

He fought long and hard, and seemed not to tire, but it wasn't until a few Britains went under the bridge and killed him with a spear.

The ones who could have stuck out were women of higher social class.... but they'd become vølvas or just status provided if no husbands. However, with the wide variety of human individuals.... everyone knows that women are weak AF compared to men (physically). Why is human evolutionary logic so difficult to understand. For women who has had multible brothers, it's just reality... There are lesbianic jealousy among radical feminists... are these why we see the cultural revisionism of history?

No evidence is a reach. There’s many non-nord historical accounts of shieldmaidens being seen amongst norse armies, like John Skylitzes from Byzantium who recorded that russian women fought alongside men in the aid of Sviatoslav I of Kiev when he attacked Bulgaria and Saxo Grammaticus recorded that women fought alongside men for the danish side in the Battle of Brávellir, year 750. There’s also many norse graves of women who were buried with weapons and horses bones (a treatment that was also seen with the remains of warrior men).

The consensus is now that shieldmaidens did really exist, but must of them gave up that lifestyle with their marriage. And there are many historical texts which prove the existance of female warriors outside of Scandinavia. The idea that warrior women did never exist is based on the sexist values of the Victorian Age.

There are only one record of a shield maiden actually fighting and that was when a very beloved man named Starke was killed in the battle of Bråvalla and a shield maiden named Vebiorg was enraged and rushed to avenge him, but failed and was killed after slashing the killer one time pretty unsuccesfully.

@Zero Hero Dude, there is NO credible info about women participating in raids or warfare. Like, at all. Except for the few mentions of shield maidens, which were not fighting but simply there for support. And the raiding culture itself is severely misunderstood. There were not much raping going on. In fact there are quite a few mentions of raids where the vikings waited until the women and children had gone away before starting the violence. The old norse word the vikings used for "women and children" were "blautr" which means "soft" or "weak". And comitting violence towards "blautr" was EXTREMELY frowned upon and one of the most dishonorable things any man could do. And as you might know, honor was a big thing during the viking age.

@@EdvardBolaasMusic So these few adjectives are enough proof for you? There are more than enough female skeletons who have been labeled male that have evidently died on the battlefield. All this just to keep up the patriarchal narrative of people like you. Civilisations wouldn’t have come this far with your narrow-minded hunters and gatherers ideology.

I find it so incredibly offensive every time I hear someone diminishing the role of raising children. It is the single most important thing any person will ever have the privilege of doing. Caring for children and preparing them for life. Yet we live in a world that consistently looks down on the role of stay at home mothers or stay at home fathers as menial and meaningless. Much better to pay someone else to do the nurturing.

Shield maidens were just that. Shield maidens. They typically stood behind the lines with extra shield for the men who broke theirs in the battle. Shield maidens did not fight themselves. There are many records of this but none where they actually fought. Ask any historian with knowledge about the viking age.

@@DarrellWeavercom You were describing the immense power and strength of the feminin. That has nothing to do with BS "shieldmaidens"..... Shieldmaidens (or what they actually are called "Skjoldmøer") were the fab material stories of the viking age.. No, no company of Women warriors... And no, no women warriors at all. With half a braincell who would think using women to fight close combat wars with men....... This is about killing each other... Women are weak AF fighting men, especially when they don't have any male backups. No more Hollywood. Again, these battles/wars are about killing each other. It's a concept that has a latent evolutionary awareness amongst males in communication. For women it's also latent but only by proxy..... which is not to be underestimated. However, they usually don't fully understand the violence as they are protected by the public.

Cool. Link the historical evidence, oh that's right, poems. Even in the poems aren't they usually special/somewhat unique or remarkable? The reason there are SO few actual historical examples is because it was rare except in extreme circumstances like facing extinction at the hands of superior invaders. "Not unusual"? the fact that it was even notable means it was an exception. Feels more like an attempt to fit history to modern ideological sensibilities. Maybe stick to mythology.

Woman rebels against man becomes a Lilith. Brunhild rebelled against father became mortal. I mean it's pretty self explanatory that rebellion against the natural order of yin and Yang where yin follows Yang. Yin being female Yang being male goes against natural law,and hence god's law which is why these punishments happen . Hence why Christian writers often wrote about the reasons for the downfall and disunity in Scandinavian kingdoms. Make excuse that it's for propaganda or another reason, but the principle is there. Woman follows man. Man does not follow woman by Simping to woman and accepting equality nonsense.
