Not only did I get to film Shi Zhiyong (73) training and competing, but I also got to drive him around Switzerland in my rental car... Pretty surreal!

    Funniest story ever about Shi riding in your car yelling at the top of his lungs. When I heard it on the podcast I was at the airport and started laughing out loud. People were looking at me funny but there was no way I could explain why I was laughing so hard. Thanks Seb!

    there has been other lifters in the past that follow the power until you cant strategy. I do it frequently for snatches. Not as often for cleans but still do it from time to time. If your form in both is good it wont be an issue. The power movements mimic the full lifts anyways so as it gets heavier you just catch lower and lower. Ive actually found that it helps utilize a full pull on the heavier lifts of trying to power the lift even when you know you cant.

    I've been watching your videos recently and I really enjoy your content and commentary! As someone who just started Oly lifting, it's cool to see what the best are doing! I was wondering if power jerks are becoming more mainstream, through athletes like Shi, Li Dayin and Oleksey Torokhtiy? Is it a possible alternative to split jerking?

  • @khaimapostol962

    @khaimapostol962

    4 жыл бұрын

    船越勇貴 From what I've gathered from videos and documentaries regarding team China and some youth camps around the world, the power jerk is a technically "simpler" technique compared to the split jerk. From an anatomical standpoint, asians have shorter femurs so they can really squat in deep to catch the bar and have the bar almost directly in their center of gravity similar to a powerlifter doing a heavy back squat (non asian examples: Apti Aukhadov, Pyros Dimas) But ultimately it really is a matter of personal preference and what the athlete feels will get them the highest weight possible.

  • @thrash_and_beer7118

    @thrash_and_beer7118

    The power jerkers tend to have monster level leg strength, Tian Tao powered 205@77, Shi front squatted 255@69, for Li I have no specific numbers but he jerks like a rocket. And they choose to power not because power is better, but split just doesn't work for them more or less.

  • @WeightliftingHouse

    It's definitely a possible alternative which is why we have a few world champions doing it. I wouldn't say its prevalence has increased particularly over the last couple of decades. There have always been Chinese lifters doing this, along with guys like Bedzhanyan and Kakhi to name a few. If you have strong legs give it a go!
