Shetland Up Helly Aa Festivals

Shetland has 12 annual winter festivals where our communities celebrate the return of lighter days, our Norse heritage and the end of the Yule season.
The largest and most well-known is Lerwick Up Helly Aa, held on the last Tuesday of January.
But the first annual festival happens in just a few days, Scalloway Fire Festival on Friday 10 January 2020, and from there festivals run throughout our islands and local communities until mid March.

I will be there this year and am very happy. Is it possible to do a photoshooting one or two days before with a vikings in full costume?
So wonderful. I remember the lovely days I was in Lervick to make theater with handsome vikings so we could travel to Faroya together with people from Norway, Denmark and Faoya and the beautiful vikings from Shetland and make our big play in the Nordic house in Thorshavn. Oh these memories.!!!!!
I find this subject fascinating. I’m mostly Nordic with a touch of Celt.
My father now deceased talked about the Up-helly-as festival. His father Robert Scott lefft Shetland and moved to Liverpool as yacht builder. I have now booked to visit the 2021. It will be my third visit to Shetland. Yes my surname has no H!!!

I've heard the festival has been cancelled in 2021 or is that not true? Better start booking for 2022 hopefully!

@@wilfredarasaratnam It is true. Cullivoe had a virtual UHA on Tuesday. Haven't heard about the others
