Two NYR thoughts - Trouba’s chicken wing was wrong, but what no one is discussing is Rodrigues lowered hi body right before the hit. To me, that added to the call for 2 vs 5. Secondly, on Lafreniere….I don’t think you can overestimate the impact of COVID era on North American players.

Because Rodrigues was playing the puck. He was making a deke/stride towards the net, with the puck. This wasn’t your typical make a pass and duck the body check type of play.

I think it’s interesting that watching the game that there was little comment that Shesterkin was standing on his head , making wild crazy saves,etc. But, in the end you have to find a reason for this result and I think shesterkin becomes the obvious conclusion and I think the real reason of the 1000 shot attempts by Florida was really Shesterkin and having great positioning in many shots . Many shots just plain hit him, but that points to something the defense should get credit for .. so many shots almost no redirections or deflections , secondly after almost every shot with zero rebound either the defense was stopping the Florida player from getting to it, or getting to it first or blocking the rebound .. Florida just plain missed on many of them .. Also the Rangers still had as many odd man rushes as Florida did .. so while Florida cycled in the ranger zone , took shot attempts that were either blocked , hitting Shesterkin , or being thwarted on the rebound , the Rangers were taking advantage of their opportunities..

They have been doing that all year they don't panic, get good goalie play and finish their chances better than any team in the league. They also have great STs and rebound control it's not some kind of fluke there's no mystery about it. They get a bad rap because of some of the metrics but they beat a great Carolina team because they finished better and maybe people need to know it is a skill.

I mean, Igor made 38 saves. Florida had 95 shot attempts but only 42 made it to Igor. Igor made 60 saves against Carolina in one night. The Rangers do a great job of positing, blocking shots, deflecting shots and clearing the front of the net. Igor also does a great job of not giving up bad rebounds. Honestly though, acting like this was a crazy lopsided game is kinda crazy. The Rangers don't panic and they're fine with teams shooting from the perimeter just like they let Carolina.

Thank you, you get it. He didn't stand on his head. He made tons of saves on low percentage shots and the Panthers crushed the end boards with a lot of good writer chances. Still let in 4, nothing to write home about. Rangers were dominated in possession but had as many high quality chances, which they converted better. All there is to it

Trouba needs to keep his damn elbows in. Missing your angle ain’t an excuse. Also, Evan embellished the contact. Both of these things can be true. I wouldn’t have been mad if Trouba got a 1 game suspension to remind him to cut the crap. Anyway, what a game.

Trouba barely grazed Rodrigues. It should have been an embellishment call. Watch the replay from every angle, not just the one that shows Rodrigues hitting the ice like he was hit by a round from a bazooka.

He needs a reminder because eventually he won’t get lucky and that raised elbow is going to do serious damage.

People always talk about great goaltending, and I don't deny it's importance. But strong goaltending doesn't happen in a vacuum. Shesterkin can't make the plays he makes on his own. The Rangers have to play quality defense around him as well, clearing rebounds and keeping guys from getting a lot of high percentage looks at goal.

100%. Vasilevsky was considered top notch when Tampa was a dominant team. Now they're aging and struggling and lo and behold he's forgotten. What a coincidence!!! Look at the goalies who've won the last 6 or 7 Cups and tell me it's all about goaltending. It's demeaning to the team to say that crap. Best team almost always win series

The Panthers had 6 power plays. That might have something to do with the shot differential.

I love the CHL. Always wanted a team in WNY when I lived in Buffalo. The idea of moving the Q into the states is interesting but any US based team would be as isolated as Val-d’Or and Rouyn-Noranda are.

I feel proud to say that I never gave any hate to Laffy!! He had a draft year like no other #1. And to a team unlike most that draft 1st overall. The process has been different, but the proof is there.

They dominated the 3rd period it was 4-2 after 2 so Rangers played 40 mins then Igor stole the show

Funny thing about context...if we had said that Laf was the best player in the series for the Rangers 4 years ago, we ALL would have nodded and said, "yep. That's why he was a #1 overall pick." It is what happened in the years leading up to it that make you say otherwise and why you might infer that NYR being up 2-1 is fluky.

Watch the one from where you can see Rodriguez's face. You clearly see the elbow catch his lower cheek/jaw line on the side. You can see his head move from the contact. Are you dumb?

I'll tell ya what Trouba was thinking on that play, because it certainly wasn't Vesey or Wennberg. He thought I just got burned and got caught flat footed and this guy is about to score so I better do something and that's all he could do to prevent the potential goal. I firmly believe it wasn't 5 and a game because it wasn't clean contact to the head but rather partial contact. Not saying I agree with what he did but as someone who got caught in a bad situation defensively that's what's always been going through my head.

By the way I think the hardest hit on anyone was Laffys skate knocking Bobrovsky out with his skate after his toe drag brilliant goal .. There was zero mention of it in the game but that skate missed Bobro neck by an inch

Yeah, Florida hardly dominated the game in the first two periods. They got a lot of help from the refs to tilt total shot/O zone time numbers, but even with that the Rangers were the better team in the second period. Panthers just went nuclear chasing those two goals in the 3rd.

I agree. The Rangers won the first 2 periods, then played safe to protect the 2 goal lead. They were not prepared for the magnitude of Florida push. BETTER BE PREPARED FOR FLORIDA GAME 4. NEED TO MATCH THEIR ENERGY.

Didn't have a problem with Lomberg's hit? The puck was nowhere near Vesey, he was clearly targeting him. The hatred for NY is palpable to say things that have ZERO LOGIC. It’s really exhausting hearing all these nerds talk about “dominated”. The panthers play over aggressive style and that allows a ton of breakaways. It’s not very dominating to lose a game and get half your goals from cincy penalty calls.

Hey guys, can I add a 33rd thought?: When you say that what Trouba did is “not a hockey play”, you’re actually saying nothing more than you’re in agreement with the referees’ call. Tripping, elbowing, roughing, high-sticking- they’re all “not a hockey play”. That’s why they’re also called “penalties”. They called a penalty. And from your comments about JT being a dirty player, you obviously have an anti-NY bias at work here or something. (Imagine a goon like PK Subban whining about that call? How many seasons did he end by that deliberate hit to the knees from behind that he perfected? My gosh…)

There's a good reason the Rangers won 9 of the previous 11 against the Canes including knocking them out 2 years ago when they were also favored. if you add Igor to the equation you shouldn't have been too surprised Carolina lost there's always a team you don't matchup well against in the playoffs and the Rangers don't match up well with Toronto the trick is not to have to play them.
