Brave and kind interpreter's prompt attempts helped to find the location and the confident Holmes could save the man by logic.

Love these old Sherlock Holmes episodes. Grest chemistry between Holmes and Watson. Truly a great adaptation.

"And we had to go fast if we were to be on time," as the horse slowly trots along! The bad man screams, as he falls a few steps! I really am enjoying these. Thank you for posting. Alas, only 3 left to watch!

I love ❤️ these half-hour Sherlock Holmes shows better than the hour shows.

It's amazing that Ronald was the son of Leslie Howard. What a tragic story. Both were great actors!🎥 Thank you for the videos.

This is really one of the better Holmes' in my opinion.

An entertaining episode from the 1954 series "Sherlock Holmes" featuring H. Marion Crawford and Ronald Howard. It has a good plot, pacing, and acting by the primary and supporting cast.

I find the pacing rather rushed and inconsistent. The ending felt like they simply ran out of time. And what was the point of the club scene at the beginning? It didn't add to the plot. And if they had cut that part out, they could have had time for a decent ending.

This is episode 14.Episodes 1-11 were first shown in 1954, episodes 12 to 39 in 1955.

While I can't say that the writing of this is up to Conan Doyle's standard, one thing I do appreciate about it is that it does a much better job of portraying Dr. Watson than Nigel Bruce did when teamed with Basil Rathbone. Bruce portrayed Watson as a bumbler--which was completely at odds with the cv of Watson's character in Conan Doyle's stories.

@@PhilBagels You are right. I had not been aware of Bruce's war record. And of Rathbone's war record. Nor had I been aware of the close friendship between the two. It is the character Bruce was playing that really repels me. I guess he is just playing it to well.

This is based upon an original Doyle story, but the interpreter was Greek...

The original story was the Greek interpreter and the woman loves one of the kidnapper's and didn't care about her brother unlike this she didn't know he was kidnapped and did care

She couldn't sleep....appears in full make-up and jewelry. : )

There is a case of Greek Interpreter too where Jeremy Brett played the Sherlock Holmes

" Come, Watson, the games's afoot "! " Elementary, Watson "! How come these immortal lines were never said in any of the episodes? I would have loved to hear Ron Howard deliver those lines!

Holmes never said “elementary Watson” or any variations thereof in any of the original CD stories. It was an invention of Hollywood.

Ironically, as I read down the list, the WORD, 'exhaustive,' came to mind; then I get to the bottom and find out it's NOT an exhaustive list! Oh boy! Thank you for taking the time to post that list of actors who had the privilege of portraying such a famous detective. Is Robert Downey Jr. on the list? I forgot to look. Oh, and btw, I grew up in the 70s & 80s, born in 67; One of my best friends from childhood was a neighbor named, William Gillette. What a surprise to see his name on the list! He actually became a cop.

He met with moderate success at first, but became an international star largely on the strength of his performances in two Civil War plays, Held by the Enemy (1886) and Secret Service (1895). In 1899, he landed the title part of the detective Sherlock Holmes in a new stage adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s internationally popular mysteries. Gillette was the first man to portray Sherlock Holmes in a play sanctioned by Conan Doyle himself. Gillette, with the author’s approval, rewrote the original script to better suit the demands of theater. This forever linked the Connecticut actor’s stage identity with the “canonical” image of England’s most famous fictional detective. Late in life, after years of basking in international stardom, Gillette unofficially retired from acting. However, like many a performer after him, the lifelong thespian couldn’t stay away from the limelight. In 1930, at 76, the actor announced a final farewell tour in which he would travel along the East Coast reprising his role as the world’s greatest crime-solver one last time. Connecticut newspapers were abuzz with the news that Gillette would perform at the popular Parsons Theatre in downtown Hartford for three days in February. @@christopherbellore3511 : Thank you for your kind words. I love the Sherlock Holmes character. In 2017 I asked the question "how many actors have played this character?" Late 2017 I started the search. At the end of 2021 I came to the end of my search. I have watched and listened to Holmes on radio, Holmes in movies and Holmes in audiobooks. Surprisingly, you can find many on KZread. There are clips of Gillette playing Holmes in a silent movie on KZread. There is no character written about in history that has been played by so many actors, voice actors and readers. I am quite sure Arthur Conan Doyle would turn over in his grave if he knew just how famous his Holmes character is to so many around the world. If you are interested I also have a Holmes Audiobook list. There are some very dynamic readers of the Holmes stories, both canon stories and those written by fans.

Sad story but happy ending

First, I had to watch these episodes dubbed in french (not good dubbing...), then I can watch them in English (subtitles are helpful too, even if KZread's ones are bad). Thank you, I enjoy these short stories. I read Arthur Conan Doyle's books years ago.

This is based on the Greek Interpreter story (don't remember if it was originally a Doyle story), with the introductory scene in the Diogenes Club, to which Holmes' older bro belonged.

Many similarities and a few key differences. In the original, the prisoner dies and the bad guys escape, only to be killed later, presumably by the girl. And it's Gregson, not Lestrade, who helps Holmes.

OK PizzaFlix, again I enjoyed this one and most likely will continue, but O still prefer Rathbone and Bruce and their pronunciation of LaStrade. I've done the research and it appears to quite controversy by many! So resign that the right way is in the ear of the beholder, as well as acting and the images. I believe the appreciation goes to Sir Conan Doyle, and God help anyone who attempts to portray the brilliance of his work. Thanks.

It's definitely spelled "Lestrade". I tend to pronounce it l'strard to rhyme with Yard, as in "L'strard of the Yard." Lestrade is not a common name, but there are a few famous examples, and some people alive today. However, they pronounce it is how it should be pronounced. There is also a French village with Lestrade in its name. I suspect that a Victorian policeman would anglicise the pronunciation to match the spelling, and pronounce it Less trade.

The man who kicked him out in this episode was his best buddy before Holmes in the first one, lol.

I always thought that Mycroft belonged to the club and not Sherlock.

this one had a weird ending, no reunion with the lady....

Funny, while this version of "The Greek Interpreter" changes the individual to "The French Interpreter", the version by Jeremy Brett in the 1980s made the story end differently with the death of Latimer falling from a train (he didn't in the story), and Holmes feels the captured man's sister was playing a sinister game of her own that can't be prosecuted against her.

This isn't the first time Holmes has been quiet and allowed for Watson's embarrassment and it's really rude of him.

I never sign blood unless not but however it matches my need..

Great shame this series has been infected with ads. By pulling the viewer out of the world of the film every few minutes, they disrupt and cheapen the overall experience, almost as if they were inserted into dance music.

Too simple a story at 25 minutes.

Dreadful re-rendering of the original “The Greek Interpreter” story.
