Gnomeo and Juliet was not too bad for me. For what it was, it did a great job of telling the Shakespeare story in a way children will understand, and it certainly could've been handled a lot worse. That said, I completely forgot that Gnomeo and Juliet existed until I heard about Sherlock Gnomes.

As a person who grew up with Gnomeio and Juliet, I thought this movie was going to be at least passable. But, as always, Hollywood has *other* plans.

I think the Moriarty being a pie mascot was a rather bad pun on the fact that he was a mathematics professor if memory serves me correctly.

More and more I just find myself saying about animated movies: "Why does this exist." That statement is all too true for this movie, the Emoji Movie, and the new Grinch movie.

None of the four shorts have been completed yet. And that's worrisome because those shorts are only the first step in turning the Hullabaloo concept into a movie.

Phin68 Successful doesn't always equal good quality film, however. I can't say anything about Tangled since I have yet to see it, but Frozen is rather mediocre despite its financial success. A couple decent songs but glaring plotholes, plot twists that come out of nowhere, annoying side characters, princess dresses designed to sell lots of merch....all because the film was given a total rehaul at the last minute since the director liked "Let It Go" so much. But if you don't agree with my sentiment, look at any of the Alvin & the Chipmunks and Smurfs movies. Box office hits that everyone agrees are pretty terrible movies which didn't deserve the financial success and heavy advertising.

I actually really liked Moriarty! I thought his animation and voice acting were really fun. His incorporation though, was just really misplaced. Good concept, just terrible execution. This whole movie is kind of this way. The idea was there I just think it needed more time and a little more effort put into it. Just a little more and it might've been as charming as Gnomeo and Juliet. Oh, and about Moriarty being a pie, I can't justify that. Idk who thought it was a good idea, I just know from the concept art of him that someone was very proud of their design and well, I'm not going to take that from them.

It's weird the majority of (well known internet) movie critics haven't reviewed this film but odds are will review "Isle of Dogs". Yet odds are "Sherlock Gnomes" will most likely make more money in one weekend than "Isle of Dogs" will make in it's entire domestic run.

I thought the first movie was perfectly passable (for a TV watch). I remember it mostly for the flamingo Brother Lorenzo. This one is a definitive skip.

Can I make a request? If you're going to do these animated reviews, could we have maybe one episode a year dedicated to maybe reviewing the best animated shorts that came out in a year? You could take reader recommendations and just give your thoughts on the most popular/interesting choices. There's one that came out a few weeks ago, "Song In The Sky" that blew me away. Not only would I like tos eea pro's opinion on it, but a review focuses on others in its tier could steer viewers toward other shorts like it.

Sherlock Gnomes?! What's next, Hercule Gnomot?

I love the first movie. Like unapologetically, no guilty pleasure, love it. It has a ridiculous concept that should not work but it takes itself seriously and is paced and acted very well. Also, the two leads having actual conversations, chemistry and dealing with issues regarding their relationship puts it in at least the top 5 adaptations of Romeo and Juliet. I am cautiously optimistic for this movie and this will be the only review I watch before going to see it. I’m at least happy at least I will come out if it feeling ok. From the clips they have released it does look like at least the opening has the same tone as the original and there is still a likability between the two leads. Though, from this review I am worried about what they’ve done to Gnomeo. It still sounds like something he would do taking his personality from the first into consideration but it’s all about how they’ve written it. And they seemingly got all the cast back so I can at least look forward to the performances. But currently I am feeling that I am going to love everything in the garden and feel indifferent towards everything else except the ending. I am happy they are setting this mostly outside the garden as it makes it feel bigger than the first but it probably won’t be able to keep the same charm the first had. Besides, nothing will ever top the scene Gnomeo talking to Shakespeare’s statue.

My boyfriend made me watch this movie, it felt more like a shoddy parody of bbc sherlock not so much sherlock from the books. That was obvious from Irene being romantically involved in Sherlock, which in the books is not the case.

Sure, his design was... disturbing... but I think Moriarty might have been my favourite part of this film! I really liked the facial expressions he made, randomly dilating his pupils, it was creepy cool! And his voice acting was brilliant!

So glad you managed to see Ethel and Ernest! While I was in uni my animation mentor was working on it and brought me in to the studio to see it mid production. He animated the scene where the characters are out cycling among other things. The director for the film was also one of the original animators on The snowman short. And I have to agree, it's a very nice little film about very little, but the nice visuals and slow pace makes you really feel for the characters :)

Man, the music in the background just makes me want to listen to it all day

You should try to watch "Ernest and Celestine" It's pretty good but you should watch it in French with English subs because if you watch it in English the lip sync is not as good
