Those contraband goals seem like a great way to encourage more contraband smuggling! Awesome!

Sooo clutch. Just bought and played this the first time yesterday. Great game and this expansion is way beyond my expectation for what i thought an expansion would look like for it. Smuggling Robin Hood and resolving an ability? Great job with the game Sheriff Vasel and crew.

The first five or six times I played this game I had a blast. Then, players started realizing that the endgame bonuses for legal goods were worth way more than contraband. The game fell apart because contraband just isn't worth the risk. Hopefully the special orders and black-market modules will change this.

I agree, but the official app makes the end game scoring really fun. Everyone just taps on the cards and coins you have and the app calculates it for you in the end. I agree though, and I probably would not play SoN without the app.

too mathy? I don't understand. Who has most, get the bonus. Who has second, get the secondary bonus. Ties split the bonus. It's pretty straightforward.

My thoughts based on this video alone. Black Market: Required expansion in my eyes. Biggest flaw I found with SoN vs original Hart an de Granz is that it's actually more beneficial to just do bunch of legal goods. The amount you get for illegal just isn't that much more to risk. Usually people doing nothing but legal goods win due to the huge bonus at the end. Law rule. I think I'd play it with people who know the game, not with new players. I like it Special Orders: Sounds like you'd do either this module or the Black Market one. Like the idea of this, I feel like I'd just always do this or always do Black Market. Merry Men: Good concept, but I admit I'd be a bit upset if someone stole my contraband because the sheriff that round didn't know they were lying. I like the steal from the sheriff, but not so much to other players. Maybe if it went to the bank instead I'd enjoy it more.

The two modules that increase the value of contraband are really nice, right now it is very much possible to win by never getting any contraband. These will probably change that.

I think an interesting module would be to have 1-2 legal goods with a higher penalty than than reward. Make the goods relatively rare, to raise suspicion when used by multiple players, as well. I really like the idea of the modules previewed and cannot wait to get my own copy of this expansion!

Giving a great benefit for people that actually get illegal goods past sheriff(s) sounds really essential to me. Can't wait to pick this one up! =)

I would buy it if it had a sixth module that was just "improved bags". I haven't played my copy in many, many months because my bags kept breaking.

Nice to see the game being balanced against playing it safe and winning.

I've never seen someone who played a completely lawful game and win. In all our games there is at least one person who plays lawful and they have always been in last place by a large margin.

in the original game the greatest value is set of goods and most of one type. You couple that with being paid when checked it results in this black market expansion. I am now interesting in playing the game with the altered math. The truth of your Game Group's experience is married them. Take advantage of the old math and see if it works. Make sure you got snap happy friends.

Trevor Pierce Given the emphasis given in this expansion to encourage players to smuggle contraband, I would suggest your experience is unusual. For the legal player to be last by a large margin the other players must be flooding contraband through. The sheriffs must be really bad at their job. 😄

It depends on how the players act as sheriff. If you have mostly 'legal' sheriff's then staying legal works. If on the other hand players happily name their price up front whenever they're sheriff you can usually expect any player sticking with legal goods to lose by a sizeable margin.

I was hoping for some premium baggies, mine have torn up twice. :( Still, looks pretty interesting.

I made my own out of craft felt. Seeming to be lasting a lot longer than the pouches that come with the game and more importantly i can repair them. I emailed Arcane Wonders about my pouches that had split and they sent me a new set pretty promptly and included 3 promo cards as well :)

"Divide 3 gold AMOG non-sheriff players". Wow, cannot unsee that typo.

I love all of this except the merry men themselves.

Tom, didn't you say that the expansion would contain the previous promos for the base game?

I, too, had hope the promos would be including in the expansion. Would have been an instant buy for me if so. I'll wait and see. Sad I missed out on the promos when they were available.

Especially since Tom has said on numerous times he doesn't believe Promos should be exclusives but readily available in following expansions, but he isn't the publisher. So we get what we get.

Wondering why all of the Merry Men and Women are not named. It seemed like most had different abilities. Why not name Maid Marian, Will Scarlet, Alan-a-Dale, etc.? I would personally find that to be a bit more fun.

This is the prototype, which from the sounds of things was just translated from Portugese. They might still be working on those.

I worry about a run-away winner with the new black market cards. They seem super overpowered in a game that isn't using the deputies.

Are they printing some original (Apple's, etc) cards to go in this? can't stand it when the print isn't the same colour shade on the back, so you always know when a new card is played or coming up.

I read people noting the you can usually win by not using contraband. It seems an easy fix for this without getting this expansion is to eliminate the King and Queen bonuses at the end. It seems arbitrary, unnecessary and not very "realistic"; there's no financial bonus in real life for selling the most hamburgers or gyros.

So you wanted some contraband? You're gonna get "nun". Sorry, I had to. I know it's terrible.

Another mistake on the "Sheriff Private Stash" card: says "brag" instead of "bag". (Not complaining, I realize it is a prototype. Just want to make sure everything gets fixed.)

So many spelling mistakes!

PLEASE make sure to have someone proofread those cards. So many spelling errors.

Carl Frodge Because whilst Tom considers it the fun part of the game, it's not required at all and in fact you usually have a better chance of winning by telling the truth. It's as if the designers assumed that everyone would see how fun lying was and play it that way without question. 😁 Even before this expansion the Dice Tower live plays had introduced a house rule about swapping goods intended to cut down a players chance to stock up on legal wares.

special orders, and deputies/nun look like fine additions. The others look like kingmakers / too swingy. The merry men don't look balanced. Robin Hood seems underpowered for the point difference - I'd rather get Tuck through. and the thirty point swing cards will reward only those players who pull off the first thefts - and are worth as much as the king's bounty on legal goods in addition to the reward for each individual illegal itself. NOTE: Merry men. Cards say MARRY men. There's nothing wrong with being single.

Please dont have marry men cards say marry man 1 and marry man 2. Please give them some more character (names).

I did not like the base game. From what I can tell this probably wouldn't change my mind. Is that an accurate assessment?

This game is fun but almost giving me a heart attack. Too nerve cracking

I could only recommend the merry men, the rest seem to unbalance the game in a huge way. I would suggest adding more legal goods with higher values if playing many of the other 4 expansions.

Ironic that this video was posted a day after "Top 10 Things Publishers Need to STOP Doing!" Here's one: Stop presenting a game (even a prototype) without doing a thorough proof-reading of its rules and components.
