Welcome, sir ! he helped me a lot with this little video, I have the same DRO and I couldn't set it from radius to diameter, I didn't have the password and there is also a manual for it. Thank you very much, Sincerely, Steve -Arad, Romania

Hopefully your install series helps someone out that has the same set-up. I finally got my lathe moved into the basement shop and reassembled. Installed a digital tachometer today. :)

Kirk, I got mine from ebay (Hall Proximity Switch Sensor), then found an AC wall wart adapter that I had laying to power it. I mounted it in a little aluminum project box, then put together a mounting bracket scenario with some steel pieces and some camera mounting bits I had. My lathe's head stock has a factory threaded hole that must have been for some accessory, so I just tied into to fasten the bracket. The magnet for the sensor is on the far end of my spindle.

Doing it that way you loose resolution, you pay for 1um scales but you only measuring 2um. I changed mine in linear compensation, whatever you see in standard divide by 2 and put that in observed, that way you tell it its only moving half what it should so it automatically compensates every reading multiplying by 2, hence diameter and without losing resolution.

你的You need to set the radius / diameter of the lathe. How do you operate It's wrong. Back switch. Press ent to enter the menu and press ror D The X axis is set to 0 as the radius. The y-axis is set to 1. Choose (exit) to leave. That's right. If hxx cannot be set like this. Press (ENT) to enter the menu and press (resolve) to turn it off and on again The x-axis is set at 5.00. The y-axis is set at 10.00. Try it. I set it. That's it操作方

johngroenen no, i have had no trouble with mine. Are you getting errors in all axis? I only ask as it could be a bad reader.

Kirk Douglas , even without any scales connected to the dro unit it crashes. it looks like some Electronic component can't handle the power. yesterday i tryed with a separate power unit, and on 4 volts it seems stable, but the while system is based on 5 volts. People are dating that hxx might have forgotten a few resistors somewhere.....

Hi I follow you for a while watched most of your videos very impressive is it possible to make a video how to use the DRO from A to Z slowly like you’re teaching a 4-year-old child nobody on KZread seems to have one everybody have very little about it but nothing in detail thanks.

This is not how you do it. What you are doing is setting the incorrect encoder setting. You simply use the "1/2" button, that's what it is for: press the "X" then press the "1/2" and you'll see an indicator on the display, and you're in Diameter mode, just like that. Press that again to exit the mode. You have to make sure your DRO is in Lathe mode though; a lot of these ship in Mill mode.

Great Guy - I recently received my GCS900-2D DRO which I plan to mount on my lathe. The problem I'm having is it always powers up in MILL 3 mode, and when I try to change the machine type to LATHE 2 mode, it does not work! The manual says after turning the unit on, press the M/I key six times to get the machine type display, but that does not work. Could you please explain how you got your DRO to switch to Lathe 2 mode? Thanks!

Great guy. Just tried it. Doesn’t work the way you describe it. Do you have this specific DRO? This is set up per manufacturers manual.

Email the vendor. I can’t find it in my manual nor do I have the M/I button. Great guy knows nothing about this dro, so I wouldn’t solicit advice from him.

I have a -2AE, which is slightly different. When the unit is powering up, and it's going through the display test (not before), I press the mm?inch key 6 times very quickly. It then pops into the mode where I can set other parameters such as the Lathe2 mode. In Lathe2 mode, the 1/2 key is used to switch between radius and diameter on the x scale. It shows a strange little figure in the display when in diameter mode.
