The following message is transmitted at the request of the New York Police Department, a Shelter In Place Warning is issued for the Borough of The Bronx, a fire on Mosholu Parkway had occurred at 155 East Mosholu Parkway North between Van Cortland Avenue East and East 206th Street, all residents within a 5 mile radius of Norwood must shelter in place immediately, the New York City Fire Department is stating that this fire may end up causing a building collapse that can spread across the entire Norwood section, all residents in the Gun Hill Section, Melrose section, Kingsbridge section, Bedford Park section, Fordham section, Eastchester section, Baychester section, Woodlawn/Wakefield sections, and other sections surrounding the Norwood section must seek a shelter immediately, please do not go outdoors and remain away from windows or openings up the outside, stay tuned to your local media outlets for further information on this dangerous situation

Take shelter from an outside threat. It's like a school lock down. It has you lock windows and doors, Stay away from windows, sometimes even turn off and close vents. I never seen one in person, but I think that they're caused by toxic gases or terrorists. Idk though

A 'shelter in place' warning is to instruct you to take shelter inside of a secure building. There are multiple scenarios that could warrant this type of warning, and each one has different sheltering instructions. The most common scenario is a warning for smoke or other airborne hazards. For this scenario, you should take shelter in the most airtight, windowless room available to you. This room should have enough food and water to last for several hours, as well as a radio and hardwired phone to stay up to date on the situation.
