Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 engine oil test (2020)

What does the test show?
The friction test is to show the resistance of the oil film to tearing (strength of the oil film).
Metal elements in the engine during its operation (friction e.g. pistons) can lead to scratches and scratches. The better the quality of the oil, the better it should protect the engine from scratches.

How does the test run?
A new sample is rubbed against the metal under a load of 1kg for 5 minutes. The diameter of the sample is then measured at its lowest point. Each new sample has a diameter of 2.92. The lower the result the better.

Shell helix ultra 5w40 pure plus to chyba najlepszy olej do 1.6 MPI od VW. Dużo czytałem i oglądałem testów o olejach do tego silnika. Pod uwagę brałem: RAVENOL Turbo VST 5W40 Oraz MILLERS OLIS TRIDENT PROFESSIONAL 5w40 Rozmyślałem również nad PMO 5W40 EXTREME SERIES Ale nie mają podanych szczegółowych danych o TBN i NOACK ale za to widziałem testy przy -30 i miał najlepsze smarowanie. Mimo wyższej ceny RAVENOL i MILLERS mają gorsze parametry jeżeli chodzi o TBN i NOACK niż Shell. Co jest bardzo ważne dla tego silnika. Więc w tym przypadku drożej, nie znaczy lepiej i chyba Shell helix ultra 5w40 pure plus jest najlepszym wyborem, tym bardziej, że jest uzyskiwany z gazu ziemnego, dzięki czemu nie zawiera zanieczyszczeń pochodzących z ropy naftowej.

Dobry olej ale nie do silnika z turbo zbyt mała lepkość w 100 stopni.

What made the different between the Helix Ultra 5w-40 perform so differently in (kzread.info/dash/bejne/h5OVy7usc6e2mrA.html) 6 Feb 2017 vs this (16 Nov 2020): 0,05 vs 0,09? Same test methodology, unless I missed something (didn't watch full).

That test was with 2kg and shorter time I think, so very hard to compare when changing parameters

Zdecydowanie Eurol Lite 5W40 - najwyższa lepkość kinematyczna w 100°C wśród olejów 5W40. Z tańszych opcji i trochę słabszy będzie Total Energy 9000 5W40.

Wyższa lepkość nie zawsze znaczy mniejszy pobór. Spróbować coś z bardziej odpornymi bazami np. Megiun super leichtlauf i zastosować wcześniej płukanki.

Put this oil some weeks ago in my Honda S2000. Car runs great with it. Seems like the engine finds it delicious.
So the Helix Ultra ECT 5w30 has less wear than Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 ?, interesting !

No, please compare results only the same oils, for example: 5W30 C3 to other 5W30 C3, 5W40 to other 5W40.

Total ma delikatnie wyższą lepkość i zalecany jest do aut z większym przebiegiem.

@@PiotrTester Dziękuję za szybką odpowiedź. Istnieje jakiś olej w miarę podobnej cenie do Shella i lepszych parametrach? Wiem że ten silnik prawie na wszystkim pojedzie ale chce zadbać o niego, gdyż poprzedni właściciel niezbyt często zmieniał olej.

@@jcob2578 Ten shell będzie dobry, również w lepkości 5W-30 i 5W-40 HX8. Jest molibden i bor w większej ilości, które mają za zadanie zmniejszać tarcie. W standardowym oleju A3/B4 ich nie znajdziesz. Rozważ jeszcze eurol i meguin super leichtlauf na bazie PAO, ale jego cena to 150 zł.

Właśnie za 30 km mam wymiane oleju w moim samochodzie mitsu asx 1.6 117 km i nie wiem jaki olej wybrać. Zastanawiam się pomiędzy shell, motulem i petronasem. Piotrze czy mógłbyś podsunąć jakąś porade czy ktoś kto się zna na olejach?

Ten silnik przyjmie każdy olej. Z 5W40 proponuje: Meguin Leichtlauf Super 5W40 lub Eurol Super Lite 5W40 - półka średnia, podobnie jak Shell, Motul czy Petronas. Royal Purple 5W40 - półka wysoka.

@@PiotrTester Właśnie już wymieniłem olej na petronasa 5w40. Mechanik mi powiedział że to bardzo dobr olej. Przy kolejnej wymianie rozpatrzę twoje rady. Poza tym super kanał. Pozdrawiam

@@PiotrTester Hi Piotr, I discovered the Magneti Marelli Oiltek 5w40 oil and it is produced by Shell, I think it is identical or in any case very similar to the Shell Helix ultra 5w40, although looking at the technical sheet the Magneti Marelli seems even better already from the freezing point at -51 degrees against the -42 degrees Shell. I saw that Magneti Marelli is sold on the Italian, Spanish and Polish markets and should be GTL-based but at a lower price than Shell. I would just like to confirm that it is the same and identical product or if it is a recipe reformulated by Shell. What do you think about it? Thank you for your kind reply.

No, please use oil for wet clutch - for example, from shell AX7 10W40.
