Of course you had done a video about this, I googled Multifasciatus vs Similis. And you video came up first. I have never kept any of them, but been in the hobby for 30 years. I am finally getting them, I think Similis looks better, BUT they are usually twice the price. So I am asking my aquarium guy now. How much for each! :-D And people always keep Multis on white sand, why? I am keeping mine on black fine sand, and a couple of kilos of crushed black marble in the botom to stabalise the PH with higher KH.
In Sydney Australia it was a effort to find these, but finally got my hands on them and love them. my colony has now bred several times so I will be looking to spread these little gems out for others to enjoy as much as i do. Great Video thanks

Beautiful fish! I really like the idea of using a black background to showcase the bright colored fish. I do that with my bright colored fish. The black background really makes the colors of the fish pump.

Hey Mr Jason... great videos, very informative. I recently started a 20 gal long with black sand (Im waiting for my shells) I have a fluval 50 hob filter and a sponge filter and I’m starting to cycle my tank now. My question is do you have any suggestions where to get the similis from online? Also I want to put a plecco or two in there, would that be ok? Or can I put anything else in there? Thanks for all the information....

You could try the Wet Spot or Aquabid? A single BN pleco might be ok? Good luck!

Can I use sea sand for shell dwellers?
Great Info. I have 7 Similis adults and about 30 fry in a 20 G. I would like to move some of the fry (3 months old) to another tank. Should I wait untill they are older, or do you think it would be safe tom move them now?

Are there any crustaceans you might recommend for putting in a 10 gallon with a Betta? (Male)

None that I can guarantee that won't be eaten or damage the betta. The only inverts we have with bettas are mystery snails.
Hi, I have a 55Ltr tank with only two Ocellatus shell dwellers. They're doing well! Lots of shells and room! There's an area of the tank floor that hasn't been dominated by the two females. Id like to get a multi or a similis but I am not sure if they could live together?
@PrimeTimeAquatics

I probably wouldn't try to mix them given they all inhabit the lower part of the tank. The Golds will eventually when that battle - they can turn very aggressive.
pls suggest tank mates of lake tanganyika for multies

Whats the dark substrate you're using and I noticed the rock and sand don't look like they alter the pH, so is there anything you use to buffer the water thanks, Alan.
@PrimeTimeAquatics
3 жыл бұрын
Good question! The darker substrate is Caribsea Naturals I believe. They have different types that will either have no impact on your water or buffer it a little higher. We don't have to worry about it because our water is naturally hard with a high pH.
@Thaverminator

Is that the tiheatan moon which ppl are saying is sometimes 'toxic', I would not be keeping shrimp and if you've had a lot of success with similis then I would be more than comfortablewith this substrate, however I think it might be discounted atm.
I don't know if its the lighting or substrate, but the multies have brighter blue eyes whereas the similis don't have that.
Can I put both the similis and multis together?
@PrimeTimeAquatics
3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't only because hybridization is guaranteed to happen.
I just had a ton of babies in my multi tank which is only 10 gallons. How old (or how big) should these fish be when you should sell them? I don’t want them to start getting in fights with each other if it gets overcrowded.

I suppose all fish will reach a critcal mass at some point and you will have to remove some fry to keep from over-crowding. However, if we're just talking about parents feeding on the fry - there are many options - the fish featured here, apistos, rams, kribs, keyhole cichlids, curviceps, guppies, platies, least killifish, just to name a few!
