If that were true then how would he have achieved polyphony beyond two notes simultaneously in this video? The chords are already as rich as he wants; each "lane" has multiple shells superimposed.

Good job, so cool! How long did it take you? My 0:30 sec long shell bell clips take me like 3 - 5 hours lol. And this is almost 2 minutes long.
