After seeing the way you have used the 80/20 with the cabinets I am thinking this might be a way to go weight wise too. Very clean, simple, and informative as always. Thank you again!

I have that very microwave and love that it's not digital and doesn't use power when it's not in use. Love the install that gave me ideas on how to secure my own microwave when I put it in the Cortez. Thanks!

If you ever need the warranty voided on something, just let me know. It is a great microwave for use in an RV. Most RV units are at least 700 watts, which won't run on a 1,000 watt inverter. As you know, this one is 600W.

It is! I mounted the microwave in such a way because I'm not 100% convinced I'll keep it. That said, my first trip out with the microwave was last weekend and found it was really nice for reheating the pancakes that had cooled while I was making additional batches. I think it's a keeper.

@@ourkaravan One can certainly live without a microwave, but they're extremely useful gadgets for a lot of uses. Reheating, sure, but also thawing stuff if you have a freezer, and cooking meals as well. You'd spend 9% of your battery capacity to do a 9-minute run (plus 3 minutes of resting afterwards) to boil rice to perfection, for example.

My solar will bring in close to 19 amps in full sun, so battery recovery can be pretty quick. (5-6 hours of sun at 19 amps vs a few minutes at 80 amps when the microwave is on.) I haven't needed to conserve yet, but if I were trying to cook every meal with the microwave or induction while parked in the shade, I would have to keep an eye on it.

I actually found an even more convenient place for the camp stove under the second row seat. The portable induction cooktop does fit very nicely below the microwave though. At some point I plan to work on drawer organization and will plan to do a video on that topic. Thanks for the idea.

You could also have put something with sharp points in the plusnuts on the microwave, put it in place and pushed down hard to create three indentations in the plywood. Then just drill and bolt. But another great job done, the vehicle is really shaping up into something special. At 1% battery per minute you won't be cooking any multi-hour long meals in that microwave, but on the other hand how often do you really do more than a 2-5 minute heating job in one of them?

ourkaravan That’s good I’d like to hide away mine as well then. Another quick question does the van creak a lot going down the road? I test rode a Vandoit that uses 80/20 and it was so noisy. Is there a trick to keeping creaky noise to a minimum? Also I have a transit so I really like how you present this system. I almost think I could do this! Thank you when I actually get into this I’ll be leaving you a donation.

My van is quiet on most roads, but once you start talking about washboard roads the stuff inside the cabinets make a racket. A couple of measures I've taken to keep it quiet--using nylock nuts on the 80/20 framing so there aren't loose connections, using felt pads between the framing and wooden cabinet doors, setting the drawer and cabinet door latches to put a slight bit of tension on the latching mechanism and thus holding the door tight against the felt pads. If you watch my recent Colorado travel video you'll see it mostly quiet inside. I'd definitely use this construction method again. I hope that helps! -Ken

Beautiful design, and highly functional as always! However, I think you over analyzed the microwave install. Use a thin sheet of rubber (Flexidip?) on the wood, leave the micro rubber legs on, and it will grip like a barnacle. My Micro is not bolted down, and goes nowhere. I find that for any thing even on a slick countertop, if you put a silicone waffle pad (Walmart baking pan section) under it, there is no more sliding at all. A thin rubber mat would achieve the same thing. You can buy these at 99 cent stores - same kind that you use to line tool chest drawers. Home Depot is too pricey, but dollar stores have them for $2 per roll.

The microwave had plastic feet. On rough roads the micro needed to be bolted down, otherwise it would be bouncing around and marring up the inside of my cabinet. I also bolt things down for safety in case of a crash. Of course that doesn't mean that you have to. The rubber grip pads are good at keeping most things in place.
