Working on behalf of Network Rail, Sheet Piling (UK) Ltd were tasked with installation of a King Sheet Pile wall as part of an on-going infrastructure stabilisation scheme in Somerset. Working with the main contractor our teams helped to stabilise the existing railway embankment at Langport.
King Sheet Pile walls involve pile driving a longer length sheet pile into the ground with the intermediate pile being much shorter. The 'King' pile is driven part way into the ground to ensure the short intermediate can be installed and the line completed before going back to drive the king piles to final level.
Driving the King Pile straight to level in sequence risks the pile deforming or/and not being within tolerance for subsequent piles. These works will ensure the embankment maintains its integrity for many years to come.
