Shear and Moment Diagram for Beam with Hinge - Mechanics of Materials
This video demonstrates drawing the internal shear and bending moment diagrams for a beam with a hinge.
It use the same beam geometry, loading, and reactions determined in this video • Calculating reactions ... .

Hey, you are great at explaining things. I have found your videos very helpful as an undergrad. Could you please make some more on dynamics, fluids and some on thermodynamics? I think those three are the hardest undergrad classes and having videos for those would be awesome. I and many others would appreciate it.
dude. after sitting through a two hour uni lecture.... i could've just watched this 2 min video and walked away with a better idea...
Tomorrow I have an exam and with your assistance, I'll handle it :) Thanks for your effort, sir!
you got me hyped for my quiz! First time viewer, love the energy man, STRUCTURE FREE!
You know what's up. Structure free learning!!! I love your videos man.
Haha I loved the last thing you said :"finally after yearsss I have drawn SFD and BMD for a beam." :)
God bless you brother...All the way from Ghana... you've helped me solve a question that looks like this
I am glad that I am on time, and you got to complete the shear, and moment diagrams for that example! YAY me!!!!
This is very interesting, I hadn't thought about doing it this way! Amazing, it really goes to show that its more then just calculations, and understanding the actual reason for each step is really important! Thank You for the great video.
You're the man, thank you!
Incredible work! Thanks
Hello! Why don't we mention the vertical reaction of the hinge in the fbd which is 3KN? I noticed that in the ending of the first video too but didn't figure out why.
Dude your videos are amazing!
you explained it so well .thanks ,love from india
Even in grad school you coming in clutch!!!!
Thank you SO MUCH for your videos! Theyve helped me understand my structures module so much better. Really appreciate the effort and thought put into making them (y)

+Sofia Bensily you're very welcome!
What would happen with the BMD if the fixed support was at the end of the right side, where you probably got an upward support reaction and the moment arrow down with clockwise position then?
Thanks for the video. Is the hinge the same as a pin connection? My statics book never mentioned hinges specifically.
thank you very much, great video
hi if assume that the force is facing upwards but from the sum of moments i get the force in minus what should i do then ? dose this mean that my assumption was wrong ?
Finals on this tmr, you saved me hahahahah

Not sure what "Babo" means, but I hope it means "Tony the tiger".
but why u dont use the section method
sir, please take some example when concentrated load appiled on hinges
Thank you so much for the videos . Can you please make some examples for THREE MOMENT THEOREM .Appreciations for your efforts .*making me love the subject*

+Anusha Netha Thanks for the kind words. I must confess that I have not used the Three Moment Theorem and I really don't know much about it. I hope you'll still love mechanics!
how does 8-6 =-3 ?? for ur sfd
This nerd is really good. Lol.
That dislike should really love you structure free :)
What happened to the shear moment diagram if there was uniform distributed load everywhere on the beam instead?….Thanks😊

you would have to recalculate support reactions and redraw diagrams

@@structurefree can you make a video of that please.
Sir, do you have an example with 4 unknown external supports xC

Or are we only going to solve for determin8 on Mechanics?
End of video: *STRUCTURE FR*
If a question ask us to find a force applying on member(supporting spesific shear and moment), this method then will be useless
If there is no hinge over there, the moment would also be 0 at that point, so whats the difference?

+Aulia Muhardi Arifin if there was no hinge the structure would be statically indeterminate and the reactions would be different.
bro i have a doubt i have messaged you on insta
