I hate to be negative on something like this where it creates such a positive atmosphere, and I know people always have good intentions when they try to hype you like this. @@AB-py6jl I appreciate the kind words. I still think there are positives and negatives to both going alone and going with a partner or group. I like having friends to talk to while I work out and having that spot if I need it, but it does put some pressure on you when you work out with others. I mostly go alone these days, but not out of trauma or anything lol. Moreso just differing schedules than most of my good friends that work out. And I'm still very close to everybody that hyped me that day. I'd be lying if I didn't say I blamed them a little, but I can't blame anyone more than myself because ultimately I made the decision to try it. It has made me an advocate for being weighing hype and safety in the gym, though. Being a hype man is cool if someone is mid-set with an achievable weight and they could use a little boost, but I don't think people should push others to try things they're unsure about. You just have to be careful man. One slip up can permanently affect you in a bad way.

I think this happened in high school for me. I'm not physically fit, so even jogging for me was rough. I remember my P.E. teacher made us jog around the gym for about 10 minutes? Don't remember. Yet I remember jogging and was about to consider walking around when some of the people jogging by me would be like: "You're doing great! Don't give up!" It was definitely the first time I jogging for more than a minute, that's for sure.

If she was already able to lift that weight with no problem and she couldn't because she was tired, then I agree. Encourage her to do one more rep, that makes you gain stamina and sustain over time. However, if she's never lifted that weight before and is clearly SERIOUSLY struggling to lift it, DO NOT ENCOURAGE her to do so. She might end up severely injured, and this advice is coming from a gym guy myself. Been going for about 6 years now and made some dumbass mistakes like that in the past.

During it my knee was giving out so bad and I almost fell like 10 times but then this girl came up to me and told me that I could finish it and she stayed by me until the last straight away. I didn’t PR or anything but I still felt proud that I finished and I probably wouldn’t have if that girl wasn’t there.

Ellwood you should push yourself to the limit just not over the limit. There is a huge difference. In a deadlift if your form stays as close to optimal form (for you) as possible it is all fine to go for a pr and push yourself to your limit. But when your spine looks like it will come out either through your back or your ass that is when you push yourself over and shit gets dangerous.
