    I can’t imagine the internal pain Marilyn felt when she sang this. All she really wanted was to be truly loved in her life. It was suspected she may have had BPD, & as someone who is finally coming to terms with the condition many years after diagnosis & seeking the correct help that I never received (despite begging) years ago, our black & white thinking / the way we see our reality & the world around us is so vastly different to how so many others do. It would truly explain her emotional behaviours / outbursts, but sweet, gentle nature, as she could never understand her own emotions / how overwhelming everything felt. I thought this was Marilyn until I read the comments too. Phenomenal acting x

    Why. Why would you write a FICTIONAL biopic on an ACTUAL woman's life. Why would you make a movie on that book instead of her documented life events. That's like taking someone's identity, making it into a doll, and then bulldozing it. It almost feels like the original author and the director wanted this to actually happen to Marilyn, in addition to the already negative events of her life and not giving any importance to the many positive events either.

  • @resurgam75

    But it's a peice of art. It stands alone as its own thing, and isn't pretending to be a biopic. There are plenty of Marilyn biopics out there. Why isn't it just a good thing her legacy as an artist lives on.

  • @madhushrutimukherjee

    @madhushrutimukherjee

    @@resurgam75 Yeah sure, it's art. A piece of really shitty, under-researched trauma porn art that probably shouldn't exist. If they really wanted to do something "inspired", they should have dropped her name and life references and just went with an "inspired character". And imho, it does nothing for her "legacy as an artist". They never even showed her best acting pieces/the work that went behind her roles. For Magda, they just cut to the applause. What it did, is reduce her agency as a person and actress, making her out to be less of a potent actress and more of a manipulated arm candy.

I mean She was known as a SEX ICON for god sakes. and the abortion scene i understand how problematic it was but we weren’t always in 2022 lots on men would tell girls that they were taking them to a hospital for they’re baby and at the end of it she would end up baby less and he would be no where to be found. it’s unfortunate but it’s only been brought to light.

    @@effortlesslytalented Yeah, I was disappointed with how the director portrayed Marilyn as well. In real life she's a warrior and incredibly smart. She always had her nose in a novel, and they didn't even scratch the surface of how intelligent she was. They didn't really make her childhood as sad as it was. It made it seem like her mother actually raised her for a large portion of her childhood and again we know that's not true. Also, did the Chapman sons or whoever the where, just represent her sexuality? Or was it more specific? The scene that broke my heart was her in the bathroom after JFK had his way with her, all dressed in white, her red lipstick all over her face just so sad and miserable broke my heart. She was too good to be some presidential whore. Anyway thank you for your response, I completely understand why everyone who loves Marilyn are so angry about this film. If Ana De Armas and the costume/makeup team doesn't get an Oscar nomination for this, i don't know what to say anymore... The best female lead in 2022 so far with the best makeup department

    I LOVED this film. Ana de Armas was BRILLIANT. Marilyn's beauty and fragility. Her talent and intellect. Commodified and violated. It was beautiful and haunting. I was mesmerised. And Nick Caves and Warren Ellis' soundtrack was just perfect 💋

    @@katowo3204 I think ModernGurl had a good video on it? Basically (if I remember correctly) it's based on a fictional book so lots is made up, the writer/director didn't research her life and there's a lot of nasty anti-choice stuff in it.

    This is fucking incredible. This is art. I’m so impressed wow. I never bother watching these shitty biopics recounts the same shit every time, cartoonish impersonation of someone, their memory rinsed for profit, while a wish version parades around spitting out one liners, include a dramatic love story, some sad nonsense, a triumphant victory or depressing death, and close credits. Yawn. This is real art.

    I watched the new movie Blonde and I felt so bad for her. I hated the way everyone used her like she was some object. I feel like they just saw her as a pretty money maker who they could take advantage of. She had a voice but it for some reason was never heard. They all just used her for her body.
