Not everyone. Americans are 1 Trillion dollars in debt for the first time. Much of that is due to excessive consumption. KZread and their vloggers/personalities/pushers are always pushing something and they are making good money doing it. They are making money because people are still buying a lot.

Have you ever thought of becoming a trustee of a charity for a cause close to your heart. As a former charity CEO we would have been so delighted to have someone with your skill set and energy on board as charities need effective marketing as much as any other organisation but rarely have the means or opportunity to get access to it.

I can't stand either eBay or PoshMark. There are too many crooks out there. Thank you for speaking up.

I totally hear you about being scared about selling on your own. Personally, I prefer consignment shops. I don't get nearly the return I could if I sold it myself, but working full time and other obligations, it is worth it to have that security. That was crazy that happened to you and so glad you were able to get that sorted!

I agree and I prefer consignment shops too. I sold a few things this year, some to consignment and some by myself, and I actually think that there is not a lot in it.

Same! It’s just not worth the hassle and fear just for a bit more money. In the end, I don’t regret what “I may have missed out on” not selling it myself.

Hi Sophie! ❤ So a good trick that I know many people in the pre-loved community do to avoid scams is they will record clips of packing up an item and a clip of shipping it at the post office! They also put in their listing that this will happen to avoid scams. Your story gave me a fright and now I will start doing the recording tip as well, actually!

Vestiaire collective is great for me. I’ve never had an issue. They inspect certain big items before they get sent to client.

Personal experience, twice I paid for inspection I still got items with some other defects not described before and had to return. I asked for particular shipping and didn’t fulfill, sometimes I get the feeling the customer service doesn’t really listen to you and now they added a buyers fee on top of what they take when I sell it making the price higher and unattractive to buyers 😢

Hi Sophie, I had a bit of a clear out this summer. I used Bagista and had a great experience - they were very efficient, I think the price was fair and was actually about the same or slightly more than I would have got on Vestiaire, and they collected from my home. But I think you can make an appointment to drop bags in store too. Which might be handy as they are just down the road from Harrods. Having said that I have been happy selling on Vestiaire too. It is more time consuming but good for older items that a consignment store might not want to take. The other option for clothing is to find a good local preloved store - again you will need to keep an eye on this as if the item does not sell they normally donate unless you collect. But that may be a good thing, and I also donated some things to our local Mary Portas Save the Children shop.

Naturally a bad experience will deter you from selling again especially yourself. You have to protect yourself and designer goods are not cheap. I love how you were able to create a PowerPoint to prove you were absolutely without a doubt scammed by that buyer. I agree experiences are far more valuable than things in the long run. I am going on 2 big trips, and taking my parents on one of them. Yes I could probably buy a birkin for what I’m spending, but the experience with my family will be much more valuable. ❤

It happened to me. Im based in UK and sold to USA and the post guy who delivered it didn't get signature so buyer claimed back everything . After that I decided only to sell to UK customers as often lost money posting abroad anyway as it's hard to work out exactly how much posting abroad will cost so I'd often undercharge for postage.

I too worry about all my lovely things and what will happen to them after I'm gone. I think what I am going to do is to sell them in years to come and then donate that money to animal charities. I might also leave some bits to my niece! 🤪 I have sold many, many items via Vestiaire Collective and have had no issues at all. Every process has been seamless and it is worry free and you are protected from scammers ❤

Agree completely with spending the money on travel and experiences. We decided that whenever possible, it's basically no holds barred when we travel because that's the kind of stuff you remember. Situations like what you experienced selling something online are precisely why I've quit bothering as well. It's such a hassle to begin with and there are so many dishonest people out there now.

Hi Sophie, I’ve bought and sold my bags thru Fashionphile and Yoogi’s Closet. It’s safer because they act as a middleman. The only thing is, they will pocket either 20-30% of the proceeds as their commission. Normally they will give you 2 choices, a buyout price and consignment price. The consignment price is a bit more but you need to wait for the item to be sold on their site. Happy holidays， 🎄🥂🎅🏼

This is what happened to me, it took me weeks to get my account back! If you can, gather as much evidence as possible and put it in a PowerPoint for PayPal. Even things like googling her username (if applicable), a lot of people use the same username everywhere. Good luck xx❤️

I’m also scared of selling things online. I think I’ll give them to consignment store. Or another option is to sell locally and have them pick it up somewhere where there is cctv like a building lobby. 🌸

Hi Sophie, I've sold a lot of my designer handbags this year. I reeally think shopping around and getting quotes from multiple luxury consignment stores is the way to go! I've nearly been scammed on FB and Depop. I've sold on Vestaire and through multiple luxury consignment stores. The larger and more well known ones usually charge a higher fee but will sell your item faster and the smaller ones charge less but take longer to sell. I've deleted Depop and Vestaire as I've had awful buying experiences with them.

Hi Sophie, I’m really enjoying being able to see you every day. Just like friends we just talk about anything and everything! About the third-party security for resale, I can tell you that I sell through Poshmark and items $500 and more, you send the handbag to their authentication team and they send it to buyer. it’s been physically in their hands so they know that you sent it. If somebody tries to dispute - Poshmark will 😅 go no no no!

Everything you seek in the outside is always a compensation for whats missing inside. Love your videos and just started following you since you cut back on buying useless overpriced "luxury" items nobody needs and love it!

I’m in the Dolomites right now. My second time in Cortina to ski. Headed to Val Gardena Selva next week. The Italian alps are fab.

I would love to see shopping trips to "window shop" or just look at what is new for the season. Shopping includes looking! I have spent this year selling things I do not wear or use on eBay. It is a form of recycling. I at least get some financial benefit for future purchases. I've sold my own things since almost the beginning of eBay and over the last year I've noticed a dramatic increase in dishonest buyers. As you are selling such expensive items I would stick to consignment as it is just safer and less stress.

I would choose the experiences over shopping every time. You don't know what the future holds. I unfortunatly discovered that the real luxery in life is health. Health makes that you can work and earn the money for whatever you want to spend it on. I lost my health when I was just 40 and it impacts every aspect of my life. Your finances, your ability to travel, doing your hobbies (mine was hiking) and your mental health. So go out and enjoy while you can!

Hi Sophie. So many things... I enjoyed today's video very much. It is like sitting and having a coffee with a friend. I applaud your decision to spend less on luxury. I feel like the global economy is on the brink of recession, and it pays now to weigh up purchases of wants vs. needs. I know this isn't ways easy, because I am a person who wants everything lol. It’s too bad David doesn’t like to be on video and I respect that. If he could still be on audio bc he is so funny and is not trying to be which makes him more hilarious. When I buy or sell on eBay or depop I make sure either have %100 rating before I deal with them. So far so good and I’ve been doing it for many years. In the beginning, I didn’t do the checking so I did got burned by a buyer so had to learn the hard way. Hope that helps.

just this month, an old lady on eBay with 100% rating scammed me lol. she's in her 80s so I felt bad, I guess she needs the money more than me. 🤷‍♀️

I heard ebay was pretty good with insurance for things like this these days. Nearly a decade ago I thought I sold a Chanel GST to someone in the UK from the US and I was just so excited to have made the sale that I immediately went to ship the item after getting my payment confirmation email. Turned out the email was a scam email I didn't quite realize at first glance. I ended up having to pay $300 just to have it shipped back to me from the UK BUT I was at least able to prevent the thief from getting my bag. I ended up giving it to my mom. I totally get your reservations.

I had a similar experience with an eBay transaction but luckily due to them authenticating the piece before shipping it to the buyer, they knew he was lying and closed the case in my favor. I’ve since seen the wallet i sold him for sale under a different user name for more than what he bought it for 😂

Yes, you definitely go for the Grand Prix holiday and believe me, if I could afford to do it as well, I would 💯. These are trips to remember for a lifetime ❤. Love the jewellery you make 💜.

I first bought these luxury brands in 2015. except Chanel but then started purchasing it between 2017-19. got a total of 5 Chanel bags let alone the accessories. During covid I looked at all the bags I have acquired over the years and totally changed my mind about spending more on it again. I thought of the amount of money spent could go on my mortgage and travelling. So I did save up and needless to say this January we will be mortgage free and then in May my daughter and I will be travelling to Europe and I’m looking forward to it. But personally no more luxury brand shopping as it’s not worth it anymore. Especially all their price hike.

Being mortgage free is an amazing feeling, we achieved it November 22, our pensions and other investments have had a great year as we have lived and spent the same budget as before.

travel is my thing...spent a lot of time , particularly in my 20`s away on short and extended trips of up to a year. i dont so much now as its difficult to get the extended time off work

Come to Vancouver, loads of hotels and 3 local mountains to choose from or go up to Whistler, but might not get a hotel there. Anyway I wanted to share a story from when I was about 25, one of my first clients were booking a huge trip to Europe, they had saved every penny and had been no where, waiting until they retired to constantly travel. Anyway, the day before the man retired he dropped dead of a massive heart attack. This was back in the day when airlines would change names on tickets and so would tour operators and the wife took her best friend as we discussed her husband would be mad if she didn’t go and I said he would e with her the whole way. I’m in my late 50s now and have travelled the world and have amazing memories and when my son was born I took him most places and he has a better respect for what he has and has insight into different cultures. He never bragged to friends either, so proud of him!

I sold only a few small items on depop and I had a person do this to me too! It put me off completely. They said they never ordered it, but they had DM'd after they got it saying they loved the piece. I didn't lose my money once I showed paypal that DM, but I never sold anything after that. People are such scammers, not worth my time.

Decade plus eBay luxury seller here… eBay now authenticates luxury items ( from a list of brands) over $500. Once it sells you ship to authenticator and they send it to buyer. You’re then completely covered once eBay ships it to buyer. Anything they try to pull will be with eBay directly and returns aren’t accepted. Also check buyers feedback- I usually don’t sell to buyers with low or no feedback scores. Believe it or not I’ve not had any issues- eBay also requires a signature for items valued over $750. They’ve really overhauled security and their fees are lower than any other method. Good luck!

I would recommend a consignment store. I know they take a percentage but you have pieces of mind.

Have you looked at Austria or Switzerland for skiing? We have a home in the French alps with two ski slopes and regularly keep tabs on other ski resorts within easy travel distance to us just in case.

Luxury promise is the best way to make your money back!

I'm so sorry about your experience. I have been scammed a couple of times with my credit card doing online shopping, so I know the feeling. However, I do sell on Poshmark and have been doing this for a number of years and never had an issue. I think they are very big on security and are very careful. When I try to sell things here in consignment shops I get practically nothing for some of my really nice items so I don't do that anymore. It's kind of an insult what they want to give me! I do sometimes go to the places where you get paid cash up front, but you don't really get a good value with that, either. A lot of my items just go directly to charity and church organizations.

I love that you invest on experiences and pause on luxury shopping. I find it refreshing! For ski why not to try usa or Chile, Argentina or so? For my own experience, vestiaire is ok for selling but takes so long not sure if its recession. In germany i dont know shops like luxury promise but for sure ill sell. Things not always bring happiness and this is why im so against of influencersbuying crazy stuff in these times

Poshmark has you send items sold over $500 directly to them to authenticate then they send it to the buyer. When or if the person buying it decides they don't want the item they have to return it back to poshmark then poshmark will reconfirm it's the same item before sending it back to the seller. Also, Ebay authenticate has the same or similar process. From what I've been told eBay is ] even more seller friendly in that the buyer can't return the item as long as it's authenticate which eBay verifies.

F1 in Las Vegas was an expensive nightmare this year - there are several KZread videos on the debacle. Max Verstappen was not thrilled about the F1 in Las Vegas. Hopefully, some of the issues will have been resolved for 2024. Decent hotels in Austin are downtown which is at least a 40 minute drive to COTA on a good day. You can wait a looong time for free shuttles and parking at the track is $250+. Prices for nearly everything hospitality wise in Austin can at least trebles during F1 week. Nightlife and shopping in Austin is ‘limited.’ My brother went to Abu Dhabi in 2021 and 2022 - although disappointed about Lewis Hamilton had a great time but don’t know $£€ amounts or specific details. Mexico City and São Paulo are ‘reported’ to have high crime rates. Know you wouldn’t consider Silverstone as a destination F1 and you probably have personal knowledge/insight/experience on European F1s so don’t feel my personal comments/experience necessary. Enjoy wherever you go - it’s always fun to travel the world - some trips are better than others and some may turn into costly mistakes - chalk it all up to experience!!

I stopped buying anything and decided that i need to use and ware the things i already have. It is kind of strange to me keeping on buying things, and not being able to use the. I mean i have bags which i used only once, and shoes which i never used!

I would watch you even if you only made a peanut butter and jam sandwich! Shopping around with David even if you are just “ window shopping” is just fine with me. Life is for living. I say go and enjoy! Always enjoy your travel videos.
