Ойын-сауық

Wonderful Friends make cleanup a quick chore. Jamye and Kevin from ‪@ORourkesLittlefield‬ stopped by Possum Run Homestead to help me get the Ugly Camper up to the parking spot. She may be Ugly still, but she's mine and I am so happy to have her plus she was a free camper home. Feeling so Blessed. Jamye took over the deep cleaning duties with her Happy Housekeeping mantra. She's amazing!! Stay tuned for more updates on not only this camper transformation but on the cabin build which is about to get going full steam ahead.
Thank you for joining this journey as a single woman builds her tiny house in the woods of Arkansas. None of this would be possible without the help and encouragement from all of my family, friends, and friends who have become family. I like to see people helping people. It doesn’t matter if a person lives in a big house, small house, a trailer, a camper van, a sprinter van, a cabin, the most important thing is having a roof over your head and a place to live in and a normal bed to sleep in. I’m very happy for this woman, she has everything she needs in that trailer.

We are in the process of buying a camper…We want to make it our own and turn it into a tiny home…I think there cheap, great for someone down-sizing and just living in the woods with it…We are putting it on my sons land and if we decide it’s not for us, he can always use it as a guest house when his friends visit from out of state.

And there's nothing better than getting a FREE HOME! those old trailers are made alot better than the ones made today. Throw in a tankless water heater ($160 average) and you're good to go. Trailers are awesome because no bank can take your home! It's all yours, you'll never have rain on your head again. Blessings.

In 1975 I was 20 and just had my first child. I had escaped a maniac that wanted to kill me. I fled to Lousiana with less than $1000 in my pocket from selling my pickup truck. I bought a little airstream trailer that a female pentacostal minister had owned and paid $600 for it. My baby had just been born (with a cleft palate) and in between feedings I would go outside into that trailer with a hammer, small jigsaw and some other tools and began painting and fixing it. I painted the linoleum floor with lineoleum paint. Refaced all the cabinetry with barn wood from plantation slave quarters. Painted the ceiling blue with white clouds. Made curtains. You name it. It really turned out cute and that was my home for a few years with my son. It is amazing what a gallon of paint and some elbow grease can do. Good luck on your venture.

That's not a camper, that's an apartment on wheels. 😅 Looks great, as long as it doesn't have any leakage, washing that algae and dirt from the outside, and it will look great. I have watched a couple of videos about people upgrading campers like this, and it's just amazing how beautiful it can become. A little paint, some changes here and there, and it will be just like any apartment, except that you can move it where ever you want to.

I’ve been living in my camper for seven years!! It started out leak proof but over time seals started pulling away at the seams. Campers just do that. After investing in various tarps over those years I have found none will hold up for more than a year two at the most. I did however right before the pandemic khit ordered a 14 mil tarp off line through Amazon that is still covering my camper to this day. It has held up through 60 mile an hour winds ice snow and rain. I have found that this tarp also reflects the sun away and it keeps the camper cooler. I used para cord to tie it down and held in place by Cement blocks all the way around the camper and then I skirted it with plywood that I then painted to preserve it. After seven years it’s time to let it go I have finally built me a 750 square-foot home and I’m getting ready to move in before winter comes. I pray your new living situation gives you as much pleasure and happiness as mine did.

If I lived in that, I would think that I died and went to Heaven. I am 68 and I live in a holey popup camper, with no water and no air-conditioning. It is in the 80s and 90s here in Florida and I can't stay in it during the day. I have a 20 inch bow fan that works fairly well at night, but during the day it doesn't cool it at all. Have been trying to rebuild it, but I am on disability and don't have the money to do anything to it. Only 2 or so months of summer then I hope it starts cooling down. Congrats on your new abode.

Put some rubber sealant on the roof. You just pour it on and let dry. Do a Go-Fund-Me and raise some money for it because it is expensive but it will extend the life of that trailer for up to 10 years. Also, if you don't do that, then at least keep the leaves of off the roof because they will rot it fast. I learned the hard way. Someone told me and I did not have the money so it did not happen. Now my trailer has leaks all over the place from the roof. I have to set out buckets inside like the Beverly Hillbillies...LOL What can I say, it's retirement and fixed income!

My mother bought a much newer camper that's in considerably worse shape. Your neighbor really took care of his camper. My mother is trying to sell her house right now and move closer to me. She parked her used camper in my driveway and that's going to be her halfway house between selling her house and buying land and building a new one. I don't know what the situation is like where you live, but where I live, there's decent tourist traffic due to whitewater rafting and hiking and train rides, etc. My mother originally intended to fix this camper up and then sell it when she was done living in to get most or all of her money back, but instead she's decided to set it up on her future property for glamping and rent it out on VRBO or AirBnB. She would like to work up to maybe about 3 campers. It would probably double her monthly income; as she's retired, this would be a big help. An option for you to consider as well if you have enough tourist traffic in your area.

If you are going to leave the trailer parked in one spot, you may want to put some covers over the tires to protect them from sun rot. Might be a good idea to check out the roof and see if it needs sealing around the AC unit, vent fans or any other perforations in the roof. We check our RV's roof annually. Some kind of skirting will help keep the trailer warmer in the winter. Some kind of electric, heating cables wrapped around the water tanks and any plumbing on the underside will help prevent freeze damage. Consider getting one of those metal car port roofs to put over the trailer to protect the roof from snow, ice and rain.

If you are in a cold climate something you can do to help keep the camper warm is use 2" styrofoam for skirting. You can buy it at any home center and it's not too expensive. It's pretty easy to cut it to fit with a serrated knife. You can fill any gaps with spray foam which also acts like a glue too. My dad was an electrician. He and my mom went all over the country for about twenty years before he retired. Much of that time was in a travel trailer. My brother followed in my dad's footsteps and did the same thing but he mostly worked in Vegas. He told me about the skirting insulation. I believe he also used that wire you wrap around the pipes to keep them from freezing. Best of luck with the new home.

Those old campers are great!! You can gut them, and make them beautiful on the inside, for pretty cheap. Much cheaper than trying to use camper parts to fix it up. I had one that looked like a turd on the outside, but looked like a real nice apartment on the inside. Dug out my own septic tank and drain field. Lived on mostly solar power. Had it for 10 years. Sold it for a nice little profit. If I was younger, I'd do it again. I'd rather have an old camper like that, than one of the newer ones...
