*IU has been here for a decade with chart topping songs all the time. SHES A A-LISTER IN KOREA. Everyone respects her*

IU is her own genre. She's easily my favorite female soloist, and if I ever see a person who doesn't like her work I'll run away fast.

IU debuted at 15 years old in 2008 and has been in the public eye for 13 years now

Unfortunately, the lyric video you watched had a very low-quality translation. You guessed correctly that the song is about media. More specifically, it is about gossip, rumours, and more than anything else, tabloids - also known, in both English and Korean, as "yellow journalism". The colour also symbolises the line that should not be crossed between public and private life: the yellow triangle with her personal things is something everyone should just respect and stay away from. The song title is onomatopoeia for the football (soccer) referee's whistle, signaling violation - "yellow C.A.R.D.!" (but in her case, it is the violation of her personal space). The spinning yellow umbrellas are likely the rumour mill, and also the shield of anonymity under which the nosy public gossips about the celebrities' intimate details. It is very probable that the "she's friends with that problematic one" rumour in the lyrics refers to one of IU's best friends Sulli, who was relentlessly bullied by the knetizens and later ended up taking her own life a year after this song was released. The song might sound chill, but it is a harsh condemnation of the culture in which celebrities are expected to be perfect under the relentless microscope of unscrupulous media and entitled "fans".

actually the lyric vid was a bit off... the lyrics till the chorus were: "why does she like those clothes" "what is that sullen look thats hard to read" "she looks different,is it because of stress" "oh god shes such a trouble" in the first para from here(2:19)in your video and the 4:21 lyrics till chorus were "if she walks that straight she will fall down" "everyone is talking in whispers,does she know that?" "i heard that she is hanging out with that guy who had a scandal" "she is such a problem" these were the lyrics....she is imitating the gossipers this song is basically telling media and obsessive fans to BACK OFF

Jaeguchi often translates lyrics wrongly. Maybe the translation per words are correct but often it's far way different context with the whole theme of the song. But kudos to Sam who understand the actual meaning of the song with this lyrics video alone. Ps. official MV has the better and official translation though

Actually the yellow in this video represents the warning that she's giving her haters to stop meddling in her life, it's like a yellow card in sports games. Just like her lyrics say "Yellow C-A-R-D". Loved your reaction btw, I can see you're getting more and more curious about her, 'been there man. 😂💜

she's pretty much the “Taylor Swift” of Korea except she rarely talks about boys/men in her songs.. a well-known composer and lyricist.

I was waiting for this! IU is one of my favorites. If you want to listen to more IU songs, I think her best are Good Day, You & I, The Red Shoes, Through the Night, Ending Scene, 23, and Above the Time. There are so many good ones, especially the old ones. Hope to see another IU reaction!!!!

from what i remember there was a good explanation of the song made by dkdkttv guys. the yellow and red aesthetic is basically the yellow and red cards. she says "keep the line" meaning for press and people to not cross the line where they intrude in her personal life. since she debuted at the age of 15 it was a big pressure on her bc growing up we all change, she did too bc it's natural. but people keep trying to make a drama out of it and also bc she's so big they always are in her business though as she said she doesn't owe these media and people behinf stupid IDs anything.
