No, Jessica. The black guitar is a bass guitar (played by John Ilsley), the white guitar (played by Hal Lindes) is a softer rhythm guitar. The banjo- LIKE sound is Mark Knopfler on the red guitar (the singer) playing the high notes so fast it gives the illusion of being a banjo. Peace, love and bellbottoms from Canada.

Mark Knopfler also used the finger picking method similar to traditional banjo players. I can see where parts of the song might remind her of a banjo.

The finger plucking gives a very different sound than the hard guitar pick. Make no mistake, this is rock and roll, through and through. This whole performance is minty. 👍

Fun fact, if you look up the 4 stages of alchemy, it coincides with the gradual introduction of the guitars after the softer period ends at around 14:47 . The black and white guitars come first representing the first two stages of melanosis and leucosis. Next, the yellowish/gold spotlight falls on Mark as he walks forward and picks up the pace, representing the citrinitas process. Finally the 4th stage of the rubedo (reddening) is completed through Mark's solo bringing everyone together in the end, as if completing the philosopher stone - which is also red, like his jacket and guitar. Not sure if they meant it like that or not... (: but I guess they didn't call it "alchemy" by mistake. And the band definitely managed to create real gold out of nothing with this performance.

No banjo here. Mark Knopfler (red guitar) is plucking the strings with his fingers in a style called "chicken pickin' " probably giving you the idea of a banjo.

Not country music, but it's has some country influence in some sections of Mark Knopfler's playing, some "chickin pickin" type of licks, but really what the band has done in here has mixed rock, and some other genre's, so that it's hard to classify it, other than saying it's really good! And yes, OMG, let's give credit to the drummer, phenomenal!

The sound you're picking up on is coming from Mark Knopfler's picking style. Most guitarists use a plastic pick. Mark finger picks. The reason it reminds you of a banjo, is because banjo players finger pick when they play, as well.
