I can understand how your grandmother felt. I lost my husband of 47 years on 5 June 2020, his kids couldn't come for his interment then. I put it off until October (we both decided on cremation), I kept his urn on my dresser all that time & it actually helped me mourn, I talked to him all the time. Now I talk to his picture & tell him how much I love him. Some day we'll be together again. I know there will never be another person in my life.

I've been trying to look this case up to see what they did with her, and I found where the state was vs her in 1970...She was indicted in 1969 for all 12 counts of murder, but from what I understand, she wasn't aware of all her rights, she only had an IQ of 71; mental status of 10 years and 4 months; she pleaded not guilty, and I read the whole court doc and never saw where she was sentenced to anything and I feel like they let her go...I will keep searching on this..I've never heard this one...but I was born in 1969. Maybe I can dig something up for you guys...

HERE'S SOME INFO I FOUND LAMONT: "The Bailey teens were sent to foster homes - Rodger in North Carolina, Susie in Ohio. The brother settled in, but the sister - renamed Lora Jean Boone - did not. She was boy crazy, a chronic truant and a frequent runaway, including one trip for a meet-up with Bumgarner. In 1972, after a stint in an Ohio psychiatric hospital, she dropped out of sight for good after sending her brother a note saying that she had married and was moving to the Northeast."

They may have gotten divorced; hence, "the fiancé." This is a travesty of injustice. Believe me, it happens. She's still alive living in the west coast. After Roger said that he and Susan set the fire, they were kept in custody and questioned for hours. When Susan's lawyer filed a routine motion against the confessions, the judge agreed that Susan (whose IQ was 71) was under duress, sleep deprived and hungry, that, under the circumstances, she could not have fully realized what she was doing when she confessed, and that the confessions were coerced and inadmissible as evidence. The handling of the investigation of this case led to all murder charges being dropped. Roger and Susan were separated and put into foster care in different states. Susan was still boy crazy and truant. She ran away many times. She was admitted to a psychiatric hospital, and, after her release in 1972, wrote to Roger that she planned to get married.

In 1969 Susie Bailey was not read or offered her Maranda rights, and the full confession could not be used. Also, it was revealed that the defendant had an I. Q. of 71, which put her about the age of 10. The WV State Attorney knew that a conviction on twelve counts of murder would be impossible. I did not find what happened or where Susie Bailey ended. All in all, it's a very horrible and strange thing. I was able to find out that both were sent into foster care. The brother to NC and Susie to Ohio. She had a new name, Lori Jean Boone. So even the youngest would probably be a grandpa by now. He never even made it to his 1st birthday and yet he would already be getting close to retirement. In 1972 Susie/Lora vanished from the radar and was presumably never heard from again after dropping siblings a note that she was married and headed “Northeast.” " and this from the Feb 26, 1972 Charleston Gazette " On the Day Susie was released in aprill970r her name was legally changed to Lora Jean Boone.
