I thought the exact same thing. He was an MP in the Army - in my personal experience (and this is just mine), former/retired MPs have a “power trip” mentality, especially when it comes to their families. The MPs I’ve known have been toxic a-holes, especially tough on their sons, and can be sadistic to the point of ruining their marriages and running their children off. I bet this bastard thought about exacting revenge on his ex-wife and her kids for a long time.

RIP Alan John Westerfield (24 Aug 1957- 12 Sept 1964) (aged 7) and Terry Lee Westerfield (7 Feb 1953- 12 Sept 1964)(aged 11) you will truly both be missed and my prayers go out to you both and your family. Their biological father, Thomas “Mel” Westerfield, committed suicide in 1978 as they still had not been found. He is buried in Cross Creek Cemetery No. 4.

Carl wanted a military funeral with honors. He knew if he admitted to murdering those boys, even if he didn't get prosecuted, he wouldn't get his military funeral. I came to that conclusion based on what he told the detectives about being an MP.

Things definitely were different then. We kids, from kindergarten on up would take off on our own, be gone all day on our bikes, and were supposed to come home when it started to get dark. But our parents wouldn't really start worrying until around 10 o'clock. You would see young kids out and about and think nothing about it. It's unthinkable now. Parents would probably get arrested for neglect now. But we never thought anything about it in those days. I mean these parents would not have been thought of as stellar, but no one would have thought it was something that should have been looked into.

I believe the timeline is a key to finding them. I've seen this before that a Step parent or even partner can get jealous and have wrong ideas about children of the other or family members. It seems this was premeditated and probably revenge as well. So he may of had a place prepared to put them after he killed them. So with the timeline give you work out where are places you could drive in such a time. But he may of had 2 locations. A temporary one. But a pathetic guy. Even at 93 he should of confessed and faced the consequences.

I know you’re never supposed to say never, but so much time has gone by that we will probably never know the fate of these boys. All we can do is hope that against all odds their surviving relatives will get some degree of closure. Thanks for sharing Lamont.

Thanks for covering this story in such a detailed, sensitive manner, Lamont. I almost felt like I was there, walking around with you. It made these two boys very real to me and they were kids the same time I was growing up, although I'm a few years older than the oldest boy. Going to the movies was such a fun thing to do back then! I don't believe those kids ever made it to the double feature. That was just a cover to buy him some time. The truth prevails even in situations like this, notice that the theater staff knew these boys well from their regular attendance and they cited they saw no one fitting their description not did they see the step father that night. These boys got caught in the middle of bad relationships and paid the price for that. Wherever they are, may they be at peace.

Carl lost her to Thomas Westerfield. She had Westerfield's children. From the time he initially lost her, he had years of seething resentment, jealousy and murder on his mind. Jealousy is a powerful motive.

Hopefully the stepfather has answered for the murders in the afterlife. He probably buried them at Fort Bragg. The base has a lot of construction so hopefully it turns the boys up.

Hey, Lamont, hope all is well. Hope you're taking care of yourself. Wow, what a hell of a story. Mystery, hatred, cruelty, and heartless. These poor little souls, didn't have a chance at life. Never got a chance to grow up and have a life. Unfortunately, they got caught up into pure evil. God, the Father, protect their innocense and hearts. May they rest in heavenly peace. They want have to suffer no more. Lamont, this was very compassionate of you to acknowledge these young children. They once lived. They did not ask for this. The mother should have at least given them a memorial or something. It looks like the biological father was grief-stricken, and took his own life, not ever knowing what happened to his sons. Lamont, you rock...You once said that you knew this is what you wanted to do. By George you doing it. As always, be careful out there. Love ya Lamont.🥰🥰😇😇😷😷🥳🥳💋💋❤🧡💯💯👍👍☝️☝️✌✌💪💪👂👂👀👀🧠🧠🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️🥦🥬🥒🌽🧅🧄🥐🍞🥓🥓🍳🍳🥡🥡🍽🍽☕☕🏡🏡🚘🚘⛽⛽🚦🚦🛣🛣🌤🌤🌌🌌🌈🌈
