In my 20's I had relaxed hair, and did it myself, it was healthy and 22 inches long. I transitioned to natural hair in my early 40's. My natural hair was 28 inches long and healthy. I loss all my hair with cancer treatment when I was 51. Natural or relaxed, the care you put into your hair determines how healthy it will be. I miss my hair. The main reason why people can’t grow their hair (relaxed or natural), is because a lot of stylists are scissor happy, and keep cutting it. The excessive trimming, chopping, and convincing customers that their hair is “damaged”, when it’s not, is why so many people can’t grow their hair.

So, true...I've never cut or trim my hair. I simply repair my ends by applying the right conditioners and oils (yes split end can be repaired). I don't go to hairdressers. I tried being natural for 3 years and while I liked the big hair look I desired long hair and my hair would not go past a certain length due to knots. I can't go to the salon every 2 weeks for healthy hair maintenance but I can do my own roller sets at home with relaxed hair. It's so much easier (time wise - I'm a working mom) and better for hair growth if you have super tangly hair.

I think that the main difference, even with healthier relaxed hair versus natural hair is that it is always thinner in a relaxed state. When my hair was relaxed--oftwn people thought that it was a wig or extensions because it was thicker than most relaxed hair. However, when I went back natural, that was the main think that I noticed--how much denser that my hair became. Any chemical cause some damage to your hair---no matter how good that it looks. Who says you can't have long healthy relaxed hair? I also have a girlfriend I grew up with in the 1980's at my old church, and her hair was relaxed and very healthy at ankle length! When I met her at first is was just only relaxed at ankle length, and then as she got older around the age of 17 she started dyeing it a bright red! And, it was still very healthy, relaxed, and color-treated at ankle length! So, she's a prime excellent example right there that you can have extremely long healthy relaxed or chemically-treated hair! And, she has always been an inspiration for me having extremely long relaxed and chemically treated hair just like hers! 😀Now, the thing about going natural.....with my wavy/curly hair type I can be either natural or relaxed but if I had a preference I would prefer to be relaxed. You seem to be bashing natural hair. I have been natural for 8 years! Best decision I ever made. Was relaxed in my early adult years, I liked it but I never achieved the length I have now in the time period that I have been natural. I have tail bone length when my hair is straight and have to keep trimming every 6-8 weeks to prevent it from growing beyond that. The knowledge I gained about hair care since going natural was incredible. No doubt my initial journey was challenging because black women have been brainwashed and conditioned to believe cozily hair must be relaxed. I now believe I could probably achieve similar length but would likely take much longer time if I relaxed my hair now, but I love my natural hair so much I would never ever relax again. The versatility of natural hair is so much( more than with relaxed hair. What I learnt during my transition from relaxed to natural was that wow I can actually have 4-6 months of new growth and still have healthy hair. If I relaxed my hair now I certainly would not relax as often as I did which was every 6-8 weeks as that does not promote healthy hair. I would relax perhaps 3-4 times a year, use less heat and perhaps could achieve similar length. However honestly I have not seen any relaxed hair with tail bone length and the same density/ thickness that I have when I wear my hair straight. Natural hair is not difficult or more work in my opinion. I had to relearn to take care of my natural hair. Problem with persons who say natural hair is too much work is they have not accepted the difference in the hair texture and the changes in methods required to care for coily hair. I went through lots of trial and error with products, methods etc before I found a strategy rhat works for my natural hair. Will never go back to that creamy crack! To each his own but I love my mostly 4b and 4c natural hair,

It constantly breaks off no matter how many trims, protective styles and deep conditioners I used. It just didn't grow past my neck. Thinking back, none of my relaxed relatives grew long hair either.

When i was relaxed my hair was always shoulder length and started falling out in the back from the stress of the chemicals. She has beautiful hair because of genetics. Relaxed hair over time gets thin, with age and hormones, that can happen with natural hair as well. Relaxers are not for everyone, can be damaging more likely than not over time.
If women do decide to relax their hair, definitely stretch out your relaxers as far as you can
@Sunny-tc3ul

Stretching the hair does tend to break the hair. I tried it and my hair got shorter and shedded badly. My stylist told me to stop stretching I get a relaxer every 12 weeks and my hair is pass my shoulders and it’s thick. I agree. You can have relaxed healthy hair as well as healthy natural hair when it's taken care of.
I had relaxed hair in my teens and early 20s. My hair was about 16 inches, extremely thick. I've known lots of healthy relaxed ladies but for me it was alot of work. Being natural can be alot of work also. I just like the versatility of natural hair and I like seeing my hair as it grows without chemicals. My hair now is about 16-18 inches which is just a little longer than when relaxed.

You can have long relax hair or long natural hair you just have to take care of it her hair is so beautiful you did a wonderful job❤❤❤❤.
Some people are blessed with strong hair that survives a lot, but putting effort into looking after your hair, whatever way you want to wear it, is key. I'm lucky that mine puts up with some neglect 😆 My ends do need trimming 😶
Different things work for different people. I was relaxed most of my life and at the time i loved it! But once going natural i can’t go back. I have so much more flexibility being natural which you just don’t have being relaxed. I can get my natural hair to look straight like a relaxer but my relaxed hair can’t do what my natural hair can. So it was a no brainer for me.
I had a beautician tell me that your hair will break when it is natural. That confused me 🤔 and made no sense, I just figured she didn't want to "deal with" natural hair and the lack of salon visits. Then ironically a year later she cut her hair and is still natural to this day lol

I''m in my early 50's I have had relaxed hair since I was 5 or 6 years old, and my hair was very long! I would say almost at waist length, and it was very healthy! So, you are definitely right! First of all...her hair is GORGEOUS!!! My hair was long when I was relaxed. I just didn't like using the chemicals and didn't want them affecting my body. Plus, I didn't like the fact that it burned occasionally. I don't miss that process at all. But, everyone has to decide what works for them. As someone else said, ti all depends on the care you put into it.
Off course relax hair can grow and very long the problem is many people over process it by believing that as soon as the new growth comes in is time for a relaxer and that's what breaks the relax hair. So now we know to relax the hair every 3 months 4 or six months.
That's rare indeed. The exception isn't the rule and I'm certain she spend a lot of money to maintain that. More than the look, being natural is about your HEALTH.
Its not the relaxer its who does the relaxer. Overlapping, not deep conditioning is where you get the damage. Unfortunately there is not enough stylist who really care about the health of their clients hair. They do things to their knowing it will cause damage just for the money.
I really like what the stylist is wearing, looks light and cool and that is the most quiet client I have ever seen. I can see post partum shedding on her but it will be back in no time.
Beautiful relaxed hair! This video is giving ASMR, very soothing ❤️🙏🏾
To each his own but I love my mostly 4b and 4c natural hair,
Growing up, I’ve always had relaxed hair from childhood and my hair was sprouting like crazy and was healthy.. now I’m trying to be on that natural wave and my hair is growing but not as fast as it was when I was relaxed so I’m going back to relaxed

I love my natural hair, but my hair grows quicker relaxed as well. It’s not just the look of it, I actually measure my hair length. I cut 2-3 inches off my relaxed hair a month ago, and it’s grown back and inch in a month. My natural hair didn’t do that

@@DC-sh7ud that literally makes no sense but okay. Hair growth isn’t detriment on relaxed on on relaxed hair. It’s all grows the same. You may be breaking it off when it’s natural but relaxers don’t make your hair grow if anything it stretches your hair but how are you natural and relaxed?

@@daniella8400 I agree it makes no sense but it’s true 😅 Thankfully I had a mom who gave me and my sisters freedom to wear our hair the way we choose. I’ve alternated between loose natural, relaxed, texturized, locs, dyed, bald and now I’m relaxed with hair down my back. My hair is health no matter how I wear it! When I was natural I was heat trained (or heat damaged to some) but my new growth came in a different texture so I measured it that way. For some reason my relaxed hair grows faster idk why 🤷🏾♀️
Mine used to be that same exact length 6 years ago relax hair can grow you just got to get the right products and leave it alone and quit switching it will grow that turn out absolutely beautiful you do have those magic hands 👍😁👍
Now that's some hair care! To go from 1" to 24"+ of healthy hair is something to be proud of! Some people have really strong hair; rare, but they do. Mine is very strong. I bleach the roots every month, for years and now have changed to level 9 strawberry blonde recently, coloring my whole length. My hair, measured from my forehead, is 39 1/2" with almost no split ends found, is healthy, soft & balanced. This video reminded me to check for SE, and I've found 3 strands I trimmed. I haven't been putting any effort into my hair for a couple years, other than leave in and oil every few days. I have recently been trying to care for it properly, and it's very strong and healthy, despite the longterm bleaching. 👍🏻

The stylist was kidding about the 1inch. She came to her with more length than an inch. Remember she said in the past her hair taken 3 hours to dry under the dryer. Anyone with 1inch of hair can dry in 30 mins

My hair has been relaxed since I was 11. It is past my waist at present (about 24"). During my pregnancies, it grew the most. I also was afraid of colouring my hair...I waited about 30 years before trying a rinse which I loved. During COVID, I let my roots grow out a bit but once we were back "outside" I returned to relaxer. I do, however, roller set...every time...except when I trim. I spend 1.5hrs under the dryer most times. I also do the bun every night. So her routine is very similar to mine and clearly it works!
All hair can be healthy, one just have to know their hair how to take care of it. and it can grow no matter what state.. Her hair is very beautiful thank you ever kindly for sharing this God-bless you🙏🏽💕🌹💕🌹

Agree. All hair grows. Retaining length is most people issue. Most don't get the ends of the hair become more dry than the roots. That's where breakage start & continues up the shaft of the hair. Trimming is important with proper care

Absolutely Beautiful Healthy Relaxed Hair
Chemical or natural you have to have a regular hair regimen to maintain healthy hair. It’s not that difficult to understand. When I was a kid my 3rd grade teacher used to call me Pocahontas because my hair was long but in my teens everyone was getting perms and dying there hair I had major issues keeping my hair length now after 3 years of being natural my hair is about 3-4 inches past my bra strap

@@spiritualone2173 I wash my hair with shampoo twice a month and condition 2 times a month deep condition 1-2 times a month. I try to keep my hair in braids with my natural hair I’ll also brush and oil every week to keep fresh and remove shedded hair. I DONT use oil daily and I only put it mid way to the ends of my hair. I don’t really do wash and goes either and I use mostly Camille rose products and try to always sleep with a satin bonnet. Hopefully that helps you on your journey

@@spiritualone2173 first thing to know is that your hair is always growing. Second thing is, you have to learn how to take care of it so that what is growing will not break off. You have to learn how to handle tightly curly/coily hair. It's not straight hair so it requires different care.
Her hair is beautiful. I have thin strands/dense hair. I put a texlax in my hair 4 years ago and my hair hated it because it thinned my already thin strands. So when she says “healthy relaxed hair” she is telling the truth. Some women with thick strands really do well with relaxed hair. Now I’m back to all natural and finally hit waist length this summer. It took 4 years 😢.
Her hair is Beautiful 😍. I am glad that you still left a lot of length. I have short hair & I can't even get a decent cut with out most Beauticians trying to bald me. I also hope she gets over her Post Pardom Depression. Bless You.
I'm also chiming in to say that I LOVE your outfit!!!
She makes me want to relax my hair, so beautiful
First, her hair is beautiful. But why would she as a black woman and hair stylist make a video regarding black hair, all while downing our natural hair? I’m confused…what was that all about? Putting chemicals in your hair is a person’s personal preference. But making a video about relaxed while putting down our, so-called black peoples natural hair, is what so-called white people do and this shouldn’t be how we are towards one another.

@@MsKendra79 Exactly! Her tone was almost one of disgust when she said; “I’m never wearing my natural hair.” As if to say she’ll never be herself. It was bordering on self-hate of her own natural hair underneath the relaxers. I mean everyone has a preference and I don’t have a problem with that but we’re talking about hair here. I nice roller set would've been nice with big roller, with having postpartum shedding and being relaxed direct heating tools are not ideal.
I do as well. My hair is waist length. I wear my hair in wet buns unless I'm going someplace that I feel requires to wear it down. I also do braid outs and sock curls to avoid heat as often as possible. My texture is 4b/4C...so natural is not an option for me. Her hair looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Its more about the chemical effects of the product on our brains versus long or healthy looking hair. Do what works for you, but still educate our women on the chemicals in those products.

Her hair is beautiful. All that heat and blow dryer and comb teeth gave me anxiety lol. I just remember the teeth of the combs after having that hot chemical on my scalp made me feel like my scalp was being scratched with razor blades. And I never understood why hair needed to be further flat ironed immediately after it was just chemically straightened AND blown straight. But her hair and scalp can certainly handle it, so that's good!
You always educate on your videos (which I ❤️). Her hair is beautiful. I do understand why your tone is stronger regarding Relaxer vs Natural hair based on the questionsfrom viewers. You have truly made it clear what ever the client prefers, you will keep it healthy. Wished you were closer to my city, I would love for my Mother to be a bi-weekly client❤️🙌🏾
She looks awesome gurl be safe out there yall
Hair can be long and healthy wether relaxed or natural if it's well taken care of. I've seen plenty of naturals with broken off short hair and plenty of relaxed individuals with short and broken off hair.
Her hair is beautiful
Currently waist length and relaxed. I trim every 8 weeks and alternate weeks of protein/ moisturizing deep conditioners, and henna once a month. I relax 3-4 times a year and only use heat on relaxer day. Protein moisture balance (weekly) relaxer every 16-18 weeks trim every 8 weeks low manipulative styles direct heat only 3-4 times a year moisturize and seal as needed You will see results!
You can have healthy long relaxed hair as long as you take care of it. My hair grew a lot and was healthy when it was permed as long as I was letting a professional hair stylist take care of it. I think the key for some is having the right hair stylist. But natural hair can grow long like that also. It’s all about taking care of your hair. So both natural and permed can grown long hair. But for perms the chemicals going into the scalp which is bad for you.
Beautiful job Chrystal have a great day
Her hair is beautiful.
Back in my hay-day…. I did nothing but grow out my clients hair to 14 inches plus… relaxed… and healthy!✨✨✨✨
Her hair is so beautiful! I was never able to achieve ANY length at all when I was relaxed. My hair never went past neck length. Soon as I stopped relaxing, my hair grew super long. It's down my back now. The last time my hair was that long was when I was a child and had natural hair. I learned that my hair texture is not forgiving when I relax my hair. It constantly breaks off no matter how many trims, protective styles and deep conditioners I used. It just didn't grow past my neck. Thinking back, none of my relaxed relatives grew long hair either. People downplay genetics and hormones. However, they play a role in hair length, strength and retention as well as how well you treat it.
Notice how happy you are with the length of this relaxing hair. Good for youm

I have known quite a few people with long healthy relaxed hair. There is no judgment from me. Find what works for you and keep doing it. My hair does best natural in low manipulation styles. And a bit of tlc.
Ma’am you are really tempting me to go back to the creamy crack. I’m 4years natural and just cut off 3.5 inches for the third time. My hair grows so fast now but I’m scared of the new growth in comparison to the relaxed texture. I grew up thinking I had the nappiest coarsest hair on the planet.
