After watching lots of these boat ramp videos it's my firm belief that about 90% of the boaters should take up a different hobby that is land based

Every time I watch, I am thankful I don't have a boat that I have to trailer! Thank you...
Where im from in Michigan on Lake huron, all the marinas have designated ramps for specifically launch and retrieve. I was surprised that a bigger place like this wouldn't. Its a free for all.

The design of that ramp surface is F*D up to me. Less surface = less traction. A ribbed rough surface is better than a cobblestone type
@thereissomecoolstuff

I agree. In San Diego they made the grooves diagonal. Much better concrete to tire. How much would it cost them to put some fendering on this docks as well.

Yep, & the ribs perpendicular to the water, what gives there? I'm no concrete expert, but the ribs on the ramp I use are parallel to the water, providing better traction.
@RockThisTown2000

@@badm0t0rf1ng3r Good point on the run off, but to me parallel still works best. The water that collects there will eventually dry up. lol Are there any zig zag ramps, i.e. angled, but alternating?
Damn, the commentary on here is absolutely spot on...🤣🤙
Everyone at every boat launch is an expert.
Its a known fact the boat ramp is great place to sit back drink a beer and have some free entertainment
"The back down of the day" 😂
Both the boats that had trouble going up the ramp had a lot of water pouring out of them. The Donzi looked like the bilge pump was on. The other boat had a lot of water coming out from under the trailer.

We never see anything close to this at NC boat ramps. Closest thing I can think of is when I was a new boater, I used to put my Jeep in 4WD to take out on like a 5 degree ramp. What can I say, I didn't know any better.

Can someone explain to me why everyone seems to use ropes to remove the boat from the trailer? My hubby backs the boat down the ramp with me already in the boat. Back into the water, I then pilot the boat off the ramp & trailer, I then pilot the boat away from the ramp area, Hubby parks the trailer, hubby walks to the end of the dock, I pilot the boat to him and pick him up. The rope method is so inefficient and consumes so much time blocking the ramp.
Darcizzle!!!
I always through my truck in 4x4 on the ramp.
Sheeesh I’m never blocked an extra lane. Don’t wanna get stuck 😂
that launch has heavy grating on the ramps , im surprised so many people get stuck in the medium and small boats
Need like 3-4 cameras to keep up with the mess! LOL
Do they sell boat hooks in Florida? They are really useful when pulling up to a dock in windy conditions.
Yay Darci again!
Dock follies are the best
for granted im only dealing with trailers for boats 14'-22', but backing down from parking spot to ramp is the way to go! Especially once you pull up and watch the crap show going on after that you just avoided lmao
That who gets the ramp standoff is why I don’t boat, my anxiety can’t handle situations like that.
The guy that left his door open and took up both spots should be banned for a month. Inconsiderate jerk!

@@garynelson9538 Thanks for the update. That explains a lot. Maybe they should repair that to keep things flowing smoothly. Not sure if that's free to everyone or they have donations or have to buy a pass. . Alot of our ramps in Wisconsin ask for donations or you have to Pay each time you launch to help offset these costs. A lot of people insist on power loading which causes a lot of damage to our ramps. They have now imposed a fine for this. Which is great! People with bigger boats and tandem axles drop off the end of the ramp into this washout and is impossible to reload. :(

If you can't afford a slip or a house on the canal with your own dock, what's the point? This is hell of a big production just to get out on the water.
Dar. She stayed with us at bay city lodge. In Apalachicola. Check out the video.
I think she was " leaping beauty".
Very different ramp etiquette and procedure than where I am from. Where we are, you often see the boat drop off a driver, who will go get the vehicle and trailer, while the boat stands by. They might tie off if there is a lot of dock space, or back off and wait, and then the driver will back in the trailer, and the captain will trailer the boat under power, and they'll be out of there in 1-2 minutes at most, as long as it takes the captain to winch and safety chain the bow. I guess if there are a whole bunch of docks and ramps, people will be in less of a hurry.
@ajgorney

Also, it's first trailer in the water, not first boat to the ramp, that gets the ramp.
Hi… I’m from Miami but left there in 1980. Is this Pelican Harbor?
I've noticed that the majority of the boaters have their engines trimmed way up when approaching the docks, is the water that shallow there? Here in TN we can power up onto our trailers so we don't have to back in that deep.
@seaeagle8976
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, and you also degrade the unpaved bottom of the ramp by doing that, so if someone backs in just a bit too far, their drop into a 6” rut. Don’t quit your day job to write for any boating magazines.
Why didn’t the first guy just use another ramp?
The dude who hit the rocks was in another video where he got stock in the sand bar
The 2nd jeep skipping on the ramp would make me think a drop Oil or Grease has been spilled on it.

I know she likes to show off backing like that but if no ones watching behind her I’d say it’s too dangerous. The auto back steering wheel or camera can not detect persons or kids in back.

It's a empty trailer and you have mirrors on both sides of the truck AND a camera/windshield mirror. How much do you want to see? Loaded with the boat I agree with you but with a empty boattrailer it's clear as it gets!

You should organize a launch/retrieve competition. ROFLMAO.
Undersized tow vehicles, that’s all I got .
Very few think of bringing a pole hook
You missed the guy at the very end who started the engine while the prop was out of the water. Good footage before closing out the video! Lol
I'm finally seeing why they unload in the middle at the Ramp or to the left. The Right hand portion of the Ramp is totally worn out. Once wet, they will never get traction. Second, the narrator of these vid totally has a Baseball Radio Voice!!
Why can't the municipality paint lane markers on those dual ramps? How much can that cost every two years?
All boat ramps must require 4x4/AWD!
Over inflated tires causes slipping. Let some air out of the tires for increased traction.
I've never seen a boat ramp with them concrete bumps like that on it , heck if your tires get wet , you can't help but spin. That must be an old boat ramp.
Old 18ft DONZI,not cheap when new
Darcizzle can flat back a trailer up.
Whose boneheaded idea was it to have a cobble stone ramp. No wonder cars can't get grip until they get off that stuff. I'm from Australia and most of the ramps I've been on here have horizontal grooves in the concrete. I've never had any issues with grip.
can someone explain to me why are all or most boats there fitted with outboards instead of inboards? is it cause of salt water? here we have lakes and most boats are inboards
