Angelina Jordan (born Angelina Jordan Astar on 10 January 2006) is a Norwegian child singer, of Iranian ancestry, whose audition for the 2014 season of Norway's Got Talent at the age of seven, singing "Gloomy Sunday" in the style of Billie Holiday, became a viral video online, and led to worldwide press coverage.[1][2] She went on to win the competition (at eight) with her performance of George Gershwin's "Summertime". Since then she has worked to raise millions of dollars on behalf of environmental causes and children's charities around the world. She always performs barefoot, after befriending a young shoeless girl while traveling when she was six years old. Jordan wrote a book about the experience and became the youngest published author in Norway. After Jordan's performances of two Billie Holiday songs, "Gloomy Sunday" and "I'm a Fool to Want You", on Norway's Got Talent, as well as "Fly Me to the Moon" on a TV talk show, all went viral online in March 2014, she was featured in Time,[1] Daily Mirror,] People, and other news outlets around the world.[6] She continued in the competition singing Nancy Sinatra's version of "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" live in the semifinals,[7] and won with her performance of George Gershwin's "Summertime", in the style of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong's 1958 recording of the song. In September 2014, she performed "Fly Me to the Moon" on the US television show The View,[8] bringing her wider fame in the United States. She also performed on several TV 2 programs in Norway over the next few years, including multiple appearances on Allsang på Grensen (Singalong at the Border, referring to the border fortress of Fredriksten where outdoor concerts are held) and on TV4 in Sweden. Jordan had a small guest role in the final episode of the Netflix series Lilyhammer, playing a girl who sings in a bar.[9] In December 2014, she realized a personal ambition by performing for Peace Prize recipients Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert.[10] Jordan's recording debut, the three-song maxi-single My Christmas, was released in December 2014.[11] To support the release, Jordan performed the songs on multiple TV shows, including an appearance on Christmas Day. In 2015, Jordan began recording music that would eventually be collected on the six-song Angelina Jordan - The EP, released on 27 November 2017.[12] Many of the tracks were posted to her official KZread channel[13] well in advance of the EP release, in the form of music videos and lyric videos. These included her covers of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put a Spell on You", the music video for which was directed by Per Heimly, and Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black", in which Jordan sang her own original lyrics. These two music videos became the most popular videos on her official KZread channel, surpassing 5 million views each by 2020. In 2017, she created a second KZread channel specifically to present performances of cover songs.[14] In November 2015, Jordan published the book Mellom to hjerter (Between Two Hearts), illustrated by her grandmother, Iranian artist Mery Zamani.[15] The book tells the story of her meeting a poor motherless girl in Asia who has no shoes. After a long conversation in which they discuss their dreams in life, she gives the girl her shoes and the girl promises to pray for Jordan to fulfill her dream to become a successful singer. According to Jordan the book is based on a real incident which she cites as the reason for always performing barefoot.[16] In April 2016, Jordan performed "Fly Me to the Moon" on the first season of the noncompetitive children's talent show Little Big Shots.[17] A year later she performed "What a Difference a Day Makes" on the UK version of the show. She also performed "I Put a Spell on You" on the German edition of the show, Little Big Stars, in 2017. In December 2016, she performed on Alan Walker is Heading Home, a live concert broadcast from Bergen, Norway, where she sang Walker's songs "Sing Me to Sleep" and "Faded".[18] On 15 June 2018, a full album of recordings with Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces (Forsvarets stabsmusikkorps), called It's Magic, was released.[19] The next day, Jordan and the band performed the full album live in a concert attended by Norway's Prime Minister. On 27 June 2018, Jordan performed "Fly Me to the Moon" for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London, as part of his 85th birthday celebration, and also joined with other singers to perform "Man in the Mirror" to close the show.[20][21] In 2019, Jordan performed for former president Barack Obama and other public figures at the Brilliant Minds conference in Stockholm. In October 2019, she competed in the second season of America's Got Talent: The Champions, which was aired in January and February 2020.[22] Her first appearance on the show, singing an original arrangement of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", received a "golden buzzer" from judge Heidi Klum (meaning that Jordan would pass directly into the finals). As with her Norway's Got Talent audition six years earlier, a video of Jordan's performance began to go viral on KZread, quickly reaching 10 million views.[23] The performance also garnered praise from Queen's official Twitter account.[24] Shortly afterwards, the video was taken down[23] and Jordan released a studio version of the same arrangement under her own copyright.[25] Jordan's second performance (in the finals), a similarly reworked "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" based largely on a version by Sara Bareilles, was also well received, but she was not among the top 5 acts. In August 2020, Jordan's manager (her uncle, Michael Astar) announced that she had signed with Republic Records.[3] Her first single on the label, "Million Miles", was released on 6 November 2020, on all major digital platforms.[4] An official lyric video was posted to her official KZread channel the same day.[26] The track was produced by the Norwegian duo Stargate, who also co-wrote the song with Jordan.[27] She has since released two additional music videos for the song: one showing her singing the song "live" in a recording studio, the other an "official music video" featuring her younger sister.[28][29] Jordan was born in Oslo, Norway, and has lived for extended periods both there and in Los Angeles. She also lived for a time in the Middle East. She has a younger sister who has been featured in two of her music videos. Her father, Gerry Christian Slattman, is Swedish. I'm sorry I found her late, but thanks for this wonderful reaction to Angelina, Omeezy, seeing that little girl who tests herself, with her usual confidence, with a really difficult song and also sung by a superlative singer, kidnaps my soul. It's a tough test even for an adult singer, yet this 13-year-old girl, while sitting quietly, gets something extraordinarily beautiful and well done. Every time it is a real pleasure to see and hear her. 😊 ❤️ It's impossible for me to give a ranking of the interpretations of this little girl, considering her young age and the fact that despite this, she is always, in each of his interpretations, at the height if not better than the original singer. Although it didn't get posted until after her 13th birthday, it was recorded when she was 12 years old singing a song that few adults on the planet would even attempt, never mind pull it off!

You have keep reminding yourself that this is a 7th grader!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She does a cover like no one else on the planet. She re-writes and/or re-arranges every song she sings to give it that "Angelina Touch". She knows the exact formula of how much she needs to "Angelina-ize" her voice, tone, inflection, emotion, persona and volume with different proportions to perfectly fit every song she sings! She has mastered the art of making her version of a song unique, yet showing complete respect for the Original.

Whitney introduced this song brilliantly to the world at 28 or 29yo. AJ took it on it at age 13. Thereby she plants another flag of ownership in the vast musical landscape that she increasingly dominates. I heard she is part a plot by the Norwegian military to take over the world. The way it will work is that on the day she releases her solo album to the world, they will be able to walk into any capital unopposed because all the defenders will be listening to AJ! It has been said that she did this cover of Amy Winehouse in response to comments by some people that she was not able to "belt" a song or to sing in the higher register. She did both and those who commented negatively should wear "sackcloth and ashes" in shame :-) Keep those reactions coming and I and many thousands of her fans will be right there, cheering you on.

Nice reaction as usual. I love this. I think it's a great tribute from one superlative singer to another. Pretty close. In a few years, it will be right there. You can still hear Angelina make it her own with great respect. She does make it look easy.

Angelina is one of the most addictive singers I have ever listened to, & one of the very few, that can pull you right into the song, making you feel, every word, every note, & every emotion. ❤️💙 I always have this feeling that Angelina is not only channeling some of these late great singers, but that they also pass through her, when she is singing their song ❤️💙 A rare beauty, in every sense of the word ❤️💙 Loved your reaction!!!

When Angelina sings a song of one of her idols, the song becomes an homage, a tribute, never a competition. In these circumstances, and they are numerous, we should never ask who's better in their interpretations of the song, but how well Angelina pays her homage to them, how reverential and respectfull she was in her artistic tribute, how she transforms the song that she liked so much into a personal unique vocal expression of her love for music. In that sense, it is not her who sings: she lets her heart and soul do the singing.

She takes you to another world, where she's the ruler, and you're the fan. If you don't like being a fan,,, I hate it for you, but you will be, anyway. She's just too good to imagine, It's astonishing, and so fly that you want to say something profane. Like Holy ****ing S***! what the **** did I just hear? Is this a little girl of some ****ing alien from an advanced race, channelling blues from a century ago and the pure power of a dozen legendary singers? Who can say? I'll just enjoy her while she's here, and singing.

My reaction to Angelina is just like yours…her voice vibrates through my entire body. I can’t get enough of her. She makes me happy…she makes me cry. When she sings “All I Ask”. I fall apart inside because she evokes feelings of the past…and I cry. My prayer for Angelina is “Protect her Father God from the wolves of this world. Keep her sweet, humble and untarnished….and keep singing your heart out Angelina. You are loved.” The song you just reviewed… another mind-blowing performance. Amen

Also I can't find your reaction to 7yr old angelina doing 'summertime' on Norways got talent. It was THAT song where I said to myself...THIS GIRL IS SPECIAL. you need to check that out. Its mind boggling deluxe.

She does have that ability to amaze one doesn't she? I am so looking forward to whatever her future holds in store for music lovers everywhere, and I already believe she has given Blues and Jazz a shot in the arm (by introducing it to a new generation) that we who have always loved it will forever be grateful for.

God...I love her! I believe Angelina performed this song to shut up the critics who said she had no vocal range! There is a great vocal coach named Frank who analyzed this song with a key board in front of him and said the highest note Angelina sang on this song was an Eb5.....I then researched the highest note Whitney ever sang at was a G5...so AJ is only a couple notes behind Whitney at 12 or 13 years old! How is this possible?????

[The numbers increase at each C, BTW, in case anyone didn't know.])

Well, for the record, it sounds to me like Whitney's G#5 is still a "belting" voice (technically "mixed" voice?) rather than falsetto (which I assume is what you wanted to exclude). Yes, you are right...so many performances, covers, etc. done of this song, and Angelina just blows it away. She shows tremendous diversity, able to hit those notes like the powerhouse diva Whitney was. And I also love how she reminds everyone who she truly is at the end of many of her videos, with that cute smile, wave and often saying, "BYE!!!:" It will be interesting to see where she is in 10 years. Great reaction, it's so much fun seeing your facial expressions while you're listening to something this dynamic or that touches you deeply!

There is no one, there has never been one, who can sing like this girl. Before she turned 14 he had respectfully and with humility taken on such mediocre singers as Billie Holiday, Etta James, Screamn' Jay Hawkins (at 9!!!!!), the one-namers: Whitney, Adele, Rhiannan and re-created a Queen masterpiece live in front of millions on American national TV and though she didn't even come close to winning the show is almost the only performer anyone's talking about. She then moved on to leave us hanging like hungry dogs for her first "adult" album (the adult here refers to her, not the music of her previous album) to drop. I'm an old man and I've always loved music but I've never been intrigued by a singer like this before. I'm simply enthralled.

This is why I do not wear Sox.. they would get blown off. My husband is a music producer and has those golden ears as a recording engineer.
